I’ve completed the Barn sketch!

I have completed my most ambitious sketch yet! It is of my husband’s old pen and ink barn artwork. I must correct my previous post about it though. I’d thought it was of a barn that had been on his parent’s farm, but Richard said it was Mr. Hampton’s barn — near Richard’s old home place. Good enough.

The girls all went back to school this Monday, and one of the back yard trees has already started to get golden leaves, so summer is over I guess. Shoot. I didn’t get to do near enough outside this summer. At least, the ground is still warm enough I can get my bare feet on the grass. I’ve been doing some of my Moves Method videos out in the back yard and THAT feels great, so I’ve gotta simply BE happy with that, and enjoy the quiet of Fall and Winter here in New England.

The old barn

I enjoyed this, though it took me several days. Granted, I was in nerve pain through it all, so there’s that. I had NO IDEA how this would turn out, or even IF it would turn out!

Barn sketch progress 2.0 here. You can still see the light brown pencil. Richard began complimenting me at this point. –Sheila Murrey
Completed sketch of the barn. Richard’s art (left) and my version (right). I did stop short of filling in all the grass in the foreground, as it would take up too much of my marker ink. And I thought that using a black oil pastel would detract from it overall. –Sheila Murrey
Completed sketch of the barn. Richard has complimented me many times on this. He really liked how the stacks of wood turned out on the little wagon! I can’t begin to describe how that feels. He thought me leaving the grass out makes it look more like snow in the foreground. Maybe! –Sheila Murrey

Moves Method

My new venture, mobility training with Moves Method is going well. I’ve had over a thousand views on some of the shorts for it via my YouTube channel and the TikTok shorts are gaining a lot of attention too –here’s the most recent short: https://youtube.com/shorts/vtTQnmG6ptk?si=7yEnouTEOu3XRJcS I’ve figured out a pretty good way to create a short ONCE on TikTok (even using “creator” type templates, then simply forward that video to Instagram (and Facebook). Sort of a cascading method of sharing, which saves me time and makes me feel techie all over again! Ha! More of a plan coming together, I guess you could say.

Prayers for Nepal

Continuing to pray for the people in Nepal. I have not been looking at the photos from Nepal. It’s enough for me to know what’s happened. I am not “hiding my head in the sand” either, I just feel that continuing to offer prayer is the highest and best I can do for them at this time, versus filling my mind with pictures of devastation. I’m also beginning to think I should apply that same idea to other negative/sad subjects.

Have you ever made Tepache? Life advice from Dolly, and Barn sketch in progress

I was shocked but not really sad about Dolly’s passing the other day, and Tim Curry’s passing. I think that’s because I simply don’t get that sad anymore about anything. So, not to worry, the rest of this post is going to be kept lighthearted. I’ll get into making a new fermented drink from Mexico, new job (that’s a joy), and show you a new sketch (in progress that I’ve been working on) the model of which, is my husband’s old pen and ink artwork. It’s an image of a barn that had been on his parent’s farm for years.

Good interview of Dolly with Reese: https://youtu.be/kuWmJjd0J7o?si=A9kzRlkv_EB3kuNY

I’ve been busy sketching, doing mobility training, checking in on our twin granddaughters during the days when both their parents are working and the eldest is over at her boyfriend’s house. Thus, I have been staying busy, though I enjoy my quiet times too–after all I am retired. Ha!

A few days ago I was asked to take part in a new venture, one that I had already been doing a lot of–sharing about the Moves Method on my YouTube channel –here’s the short from Day 1: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NZ_ihXF9sb0 so you can see what I’m doing. And this will get you started if you want to join me. I’m also posting on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok! I’m super excited about this because I will actually get paid on any sales that come through my link!!! And I get to learn a LOT more about the program for myself, as well as, how to be a REAL social media influencer on TikTok, Instagram, and so on, which is all knowledge I can use to help me promote our original music and artwork. So, it’s a win-win situation all the way around for us. And “I LOVE IT when a plan comes together” as the movie line goes! Haha!

The old barn

This is taking some time, but I am enjoying it.

I’m a little farther along now, but this was how it looked when I began. I used a light brown pencil to rough it out. I’ll show a couple more steps in my next post. –Sheila Murrey

Tepache

My master herbalist friend is from Mexico and she makes a fermented pineapple drink called, Tepache. She did a little tutorial of how to make it (in the free group she and her husband run on the Skool platform–you can join if you want to). I’ll add the link in a moment. Anyway, I made this last week and it turned out to be delicious and very good for my gut! I have been eating a LOT more fermented foods this week too. All in an effort to heal my gut, whether I actually have “leaky gut” or not. Here’s a couple of photos and link to Christina and Michael’s Skool group: https://www.skool.com/herbalcottage/

Prayers for the people in Nepal. My qigong/dao teacher and healer, Lama Nicholas Packard used to live there for about 20 years. He’s passed now too, but I always think of him when I hear anything about Nepal. I also think of my friend Maria (in Florida) who travels to Nepal often. The people we’re connected to in this life make it special, don’t they. I don’t know what life would be like without them. But I know they would not want us to be sad.
