Careful — Your tone is showing

Your tone is showing

Every sound you utter is a certain tone. Yes, even when you grunt, groan, or hum—the sound you emit comes out as a specific tone. And tones transmit our intention. So, be careful dear ones, your tone of voice is showing what’s in your heart.

Tone of voice

For years I’ve been curious about the “tone of someone’s voice” because I grew up in a house where arguing and yelling was the norm, and I hated it.

There’s no blame here, as it wasn’t only my parents arguing. When I would retort in defense of a scolding, mom would say, “don’t speak to me with that tone!”

It became commonplace for me to cover my ears whenever anyone would raise their voice. And I always wondered, “why”?

I have come to know that I’m upset by harsh tones of voice because I am a sensitive, or empath.

Maintain low tones
Maintain low tones

What your ears are tuned to

Understand that my physical ears could take it, but the experience of someone yelling or screaming in anger near me would shake my emotional world.

Moreover, I knew my ears weren’t the problem because I’d attended many rock concerts over the years, and hung out with family and friends at many “Bike Week” events (motorcycle engines roaring) and that didn’t bother me. At least it didn’t bother me for many years. But something about a person yelling near me, with their intention of anger would totally upset my apple cart.

I knew there was a difference between someone screaming for help and someone yelling out of anger. I could hear it in the tone of voice. So, for the sake of this post, I’m probing the intention of anger / hostility.

Words hurt

Books have been written about how hurtful words disrupts the body and spirit. I believe that’s got a lot more to do with the tone of the voice delivering those hurtful words, than the actual words themselves. Especially since we’re all empowered and have the ability not to accept into us, the meaning of any word. (See my previous article, “Words are only as powerful as we allow.“)

Healing tones

Conversely, tonal frequencies can be healing to the body as I explored in my Tibetan bowl article:

“…specific tones (or frequencies) that resonate deep into your body. The harmonics of the tones can help you experience a connection throughout your entire body. And when we feel “connected”, a sense of calm and relaxation can be achieved.”
I now have a conscious choice when anyone is angry within my vicinity–I can leave. I do not have to subject myself to ill intent. I am sure over the years I have left too, in particular I can cite a couple of marriages ending (not solely due to the arguing, but I wouldn’t tolerate in any longer).
I believe this tonal thing is also why I resonate so much with peaceful music, and calm public speakers. I will not attend any lecture or other type of event where an angry tone of voice is being projected at people. I FEEL it. And I love the cells of my body too much than to subject any of the 70 trillion of them to that kind of abuse.
I know that loving intention produces a calming and gentle power within one’s body, mind, and spirit and that’s where I choose to reside.
For those who say fighting, arguing, and so on is a normal part of marriage–I beg to differ. My third husband and I have never raised our voices in disagreement in over 14 years together. There is a way to communicate, even debate, without spuing painful words at oneself or another.

Backed by hard science?

To a degree. Brain waves have been measured by scientists for many years. And scientists say that while we’re awake our normal brain frequency is in something called, Beta. Certain sound tools, or modalities can train the brain to shift into deeper Alpha and Theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies one experiences after deep contemplative, mindful, or other types of meditative practices. Science can measure brain waves and make a correlation between sound therapy and the body’s healing response. Thus, sound is a type of energy medicine and can help the body heal from pain, stress, and more.

The bones and organs in the body all possess a different resonant frequency that can be scientifically measured.

It’s not possible for you to desire something that would be detrimental to anyone, and feel good at the same time, because if you set forth an intention like that, you would deviate from the vibration of Source–the spirit of God within you–and you would feel the emptiness of it.
Ah, at its essence sound is only vibration. Sound is only interpreted vibration by the hearer…
In the womb I was made from everything my mom breathed, ate, drank, thought, and felt. I had no say about those things. I felt the resonance of the vibrations of her intentions and emotion. What were the intentions of my mother? Was she worried? Thankful? Apprehensive? Eagerly anticipating? Joyful?
Intention can set the stage for what’s going to be most predominant in a child’s life!
May the tone of your voice always convey the intent of your heart.
Be the person your Soul knows you are!
Thank you. Namaste. OM

Who Am I?

Who Am I?

I AM my ancestors (who continue to live in my DNA and blood), and Everything I’ve experienced up to this point since the moment of my physical birth–and perhaps from Beyond it too!

Who Am I?
Who Am I?

My physical body consists of “star stuff”: dirt and water, the elements of the earth and stars. I breathe, because our Creator Source once breathed a soul essence into a human being. No human has ever created another living breathing life from nothing. We make babies from a male and a female human BE-ing. Our breath originated somewhere. WE human BE-ings can only share breath. Our essence came from some ONE. That is logic.

Let me present some definitions to you, as you may need some context around this article before you can really “get it.”

  • Ancestors – anyone who shares my DNA and/or blood. I see this as a line, past, present, and future. What I experience today (in the Now), ah yes, is driven, or built upon, the foundation that all my previous living relations have experienced. This line allows me to affect change in the lives of those I am currently related to, as well as who will come down in the future–my legacy).
  • Blood – the viscous liquid coursing through my veins. It is a well established fact, and proven by my mother, that when a mother and father’s blood is incompatible a baby cannot naturally come forth from them. Yes, of course today it is known that with medical intervention a baby can be saved–but at times, there are still complications from the blood mismatch).
  • DNA – The biological, scientific explanation of the genetic carrier of information (deoxyribonucleic acid) that exists inside of each of us–not seen by the naked eye–which allows each of us to self-replicate. This substance is claimed to exist in “nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes.”
  • Aware / Awake person – One who has an open mind to acknowledge that there’s a lot more information around us than what our established five senses interprets on a daily basis.
  • Everything – All of one’s vibrations, energy, thoughts, ways of interpreting, and actions.

Why does it matter?

If I know who I am, then it gives me many clues as to why I’m here, and my purpose for living. Also, I feel it matters to my family, both past, present, and future.

Why now?

To ease feelings associated with loneliness and loss, both for myself and others. And my hope is that the more we research and discuss our Connections, the better we can use our experiences to heal ourselves, and loved ones.

Background

I’ve been interested in my genealogy for many years, and in particular my Native American roots since I love and am drawn to so many things said, and made by Native Americans. However, after my mom passed away (transitioned to the other side), I began experiencing stupefying co-incidences. Actually, I began experiencing incredible synchronicities even before, mama crossed over. And as an “aware” person, I began noting these occurrences and writing them down.

Before my mom passed, but after dad had called me to tell me she wasn’t doing so well, I had decided that I needed to find a piece of jewelry mom had given me years ago. In looking for the item though, I didn’t find it. Instead, I found a beautiful old watch of hers and a pocket watch, which I think had belonged to my grandfather (though I’m not sure).

It’s time

I placed both items on our coffee table and felt better having these pieces near me. Call it a vibration thing, I don’t know. But I felt a bit better.

It was only a day or two until I got the call from dad that mom was unresponsive. My mind still wasn’t sure that meant she had passed though, so I’d reached out to my nurse friend to ask. I had kept busy for several hours that morning, pacing, and waiting on a confirmation from dad. I knew I wanted to get to where they were and be with dad–it was a “pull” that I’d not quite felt before. While preparing for the multi-state drive, at some point the thought came to me, “It was my time.” And bingo. That’s when it hit me. The synchronicity of the items I’d found was mom’s spirit telling me that it was her time to go, and for me to be okay with it–since she’d confirmed it by having me find not just one, but two, TIME PIECES!

She used to tell me as a teen that I was thick headed. So, I laughed out loud because I knew this was her way of reminding me of that also! That if I didn’t “get it” from finding her watch, then she’d make SURE that I understood that it was her time by having me find that second time piece! Aha! Mom was with me. I had even told someone a week or so prior that mom’s dementia sort of had her “one foot in this world, and one in the other.”

Going home

When my husband and I arrived in West Virginia, my dad was outside of the local hotel to greet us! No time was wasted! And as the Universe would have it, as we walked into the lobby of the hotel and conference center, a lone man was sitting there softly playing his guitar and singing. The song? One of mom and dad’s favorites, “Unchained Melody.” There was also, at this same time, a taxidermist convention going on–and my paternal grandfather was a taxidermist! It caused me to ponder, is mama (in the Great Beyond) hanging out with my grandparents? What a comforting and cool thought.

We spent several days with dad, but then it was time to go home. Before we could get out of the state however, my uncle would not take no for an answer that we needed to come to his home because he had something of mom’s for me. My aunt even got on the phone to tell me there was a mink coat amongst the things mom had put in their cedar closet. I couldn’t imagine my mother having a mink coat, so yes, the curiosity got the best of me and I did one of the purely selfish things I’ve ever done. I decided we’d drive a 3 to 4 hours out of our way, and go see my aunt and uncle and pick up whatever mom had packed away. My uncle also surprised us by calling my cousins and had them come to the house to visit us–something I’d never imagined would happen, but oh, how joyous that reunion was!

Finding mom’s wedding suit, and many special coats that I remembered mom wearing, along with other clothing she’d put aside, was all so very comforting for me. And as I spent weeks looking at old photos and seeing mama wearing these clothes, totally made me feel as though she was guiding my efforts. I poured through many photos in order to put together mom’s eulogy and photo slideshow.

Afterward

In the weeks that followed, we would all discuss what kind of service to have for mom. My dad, so overcome with grief, would call me almost daily, and often I could hear the shakiness of his voice on the other end of the line. I tried my best to reassure him that he had more to live for, a purpose yet to fulfill.

Eventually, we’d agreed to honor my mama by having my uncle, mom’s brother, facilitate a memorial service for mom. I wasn’t going to go, but when I learned that my dad’s sister (who lives in California) would be there for her reunion during the same week, and wanted to also attend mom’s service, I began looking for a flight up. Initially, the airline I normally use, didn’t have any direct flights in. I tried to console myself that I’d just have to miss the service. But, out of the blue, the thought came to check ALL airlines, and I was able then, quite easily actually, to book a flight up with one airline into one city, and the return flight home with another airline out of a neighboring state–in the same town as one of my cousins also, whom I’d always wanted to visit with at her home!

More synchroncities

As if, the audacity of the synchronicity of finding two of mom’s time pieces wasn’t enough, don’t you know that when I got to West Virginia for mom’s memorial service, my dad presented me with another time piece of mom’s, her favorite, “footprints in the sand” wrist watch!

Also, what really knocked my socks off, was that as soon as dad and I arrived at my uncle and aunt’s home for the service, I saw my uncle and he was wearing an indigo blue long sleeved dress shirt! If you haven’t read one of my previous posts called, “That Tiny Blue Dot” then you won’t understand the significance of this synchronicity, but the importance of it was not lost on me!

As well, the tables set up to be used for mom’s memorial service all had indigo blue plastic table cloths on them! I couldn’t have been more wrapped in love during that day, knowing mom was with me.

Nature chimes in

At  one point during the service an eagle or hawk flew directly over head! And after the service, I learned that the beautiful blooming tree (that can be seen in the videos I took of the service) is a crepe myrtle, and more than that, it had been brought back by my grandparents after a trip they’d taken years ago to Florida! I’d never known them to take a vacation in their lives, especially not all the way to Florida! I was astounded!

After the service, dad and I checked into the hotel. Quite purposely I had booked us a room at the same hotel where my dad’s sister was staying so we could visit more with her.

As it turned out though, it seemed mom had a hand in this from the other side, as while dad and I walked into the hotel restaurant area, he is looking around and tells me that he hasn’t been there in years—since he had picked up mom and one of her friends when they had imbibed and didn’t want to drive home! I was stunned! I had heard mom say she used to sell Avon at one of the hotel restaurant lounges during a particular span of time (when I had moved away and was busy raising my kids), but I had never gone there with her, and all these years later the hotel’s name had changed. Turns out we were right where we needed to be, as the friend dad mentioned, joined us for a cocktail and a beautiful conversation later that evening after my aunt left to attend a reunion function.

The morning after we’d returned home, I had awoken with a song in my head. It was an old song. Gilbert O’Sullivan’s, “Alone Again” would play over and over in my mind, and with it came the feeling that mom was giving it to me, to help me cry and release the grief.

I continue to notice and enjoy the many synchronicites that mom’s provides me. Most recently, it was meeting an artist friend who paints using a lot of indigo blue, that she herself had not realized she was using!

Writing it down

Historically, the church I was raised in kept intricately detailed genealogical records. They are publicly known for this. Because of this, and since it was always the church’s practice to offer their members something called a patriarchal blessing, mom had learned that she was from the tribe of Manasseh.

I also know, but as of yet have been unable to prove, that my mother, and her mother, carried the blood of their Native American (Cherokee) relatives. Since the Native American lineage is traced via the mother, and recorded on tribal rolls, I’ve bought many books on the Cherokee tribes and have found my grandmother’s maiden last name, but not her mother’s maiden last name. So many of the tribal rolls don’t even show a first name, or only first initials, making proving my Indian heritage nearly impossible. Please reach out to me if you have any suggestions. My great grandmother’s name was Hannah McGill Calhoun of West Virginia and her mother’s name was Louisa McDonald McGill.

Since I’d give anything to find some handwritten family history by my ancestors, I began writing, and later, blogging, so my granddaughters will have something to be able to know and understand a bit about their grandmother–me.

The importance of learning and continued growth

You know, while writing my mother’s eulogy these words came to me, “I could burn a lot of people.”But I felt, based upon everything I’ve learned and accepted up to this point in my life, that it would be better to honor mom’s memory, life, and who she raised me to be, by choosing instead to elevate, and take the high road so to speak, because I am not angry anymore. I’m not.
For three weeks I poured through pictures of mom and my relatives. I cried. I got angry. But, I employed tools and tactics that I’ve learned over the last 10 years or so, to press on, release, and let go. By the end of the time I spent preparing my loving mother’s eulogy, I got to the point where I could just say, “Thank You.” Not just to my mother, but to many relatives and friends who, over the years, came and went, and taught us all many lessons.
I thank each of the people who have touched my life, for good or bad, for my personal growth. I believe the word “lessons” and the word “blessings” have a lot in common. And that either by the sins of commission or the sins of omission each of us can learn, if we are open to learning. Oh, we could bury ourselves in the dirt of these so called sins. But I make a conscious choice to learn from what’s happened to me. And now, I believe after we cross over in the ALL, that we then are able to see all of the intricate Connections, and come to know of the Why things had to happen in every circumstance, the way that they did.  All learning produces strength of character and more importantly, strength of spirit.
Do I still get mad sometimes? Yes.
Do I want to get revenge? Yes.
Would it change anything? No.
So, this is why I practice self-help, self-care, prayer, meditation, and other mind-body-spirit modalities. And slowly, I let go of the anger–and I get another side benefit from all of this work too, the resentments vanish.
You know, it’s ironic that mom’s remains are in her old bedroom of the house she was born in.
The place she would attempt to come back to once, and my grandmother (according to what mom told me) said, “You are welcome, but not with Sheila.” Either because she said this, or my mother interpreted her words to mean that because I was a part of my father, my grandmother did not want me to live in her house. My grandmother (at least at that time) did not like my dad, and I guess, that was the reason for her answer to my mother’s request.
These are the kinds of things I can’t seem to forget.
I believe the reason some memories nag us, is not to heap guilt (which is just another kind of thought) on us, but to remind us that we’ve missed a legacy lesson.
Mom always taught me to turn a thought about a problem, “over and over in my head” until a solution presented itself. Well, I sat with this for some time until a new thought came to me, “Let go of my hurt feelings, angst, even anger towards my granddaughter’s father. As I mentally released him from the prison I’d constructed in my mind for him, I’d break the spell (so to speak) of my grandmother’s words about me! Thus freeing my grandmother, my mom, myself, my daughter, my granddaughter, and so on! This is one small, or huge, example of the lesson I needed to learn. Perhaps I could apply it similarly in other situations?
Have I made mistakes too? You betcha.
Once, I talked with mom and dad about somehow helping them to buy them a new double-wide or other kind of trailer on their property, and they said, “No.” I replied something to the effect of, “Then, you can stay here in this place and let it fall down around you.” Ugh! My words came out the way that they did based upon the helpless feelings I felt at the time. I almost found it hard to live comfortably wherever I was living at the time, while watching my parents live in what I deemed was substandard housing. Plus, I had felt so much sadness that I couldn’t somehow free my mother from the trappings of her then painful life. But I realized later, there was nothing for me to feel guilt about since I did offer, and my offer was met with much resistance. Because I haven’t worked on freeing myself of these particular thoughts (resistance), you guessed it, my son is now going through this very same “clean up the property” experience with my dad.
You see? We each have a choice. We can accept offers of love and help, or we can choose to turn our backs and do it all ourselves.
Of course, now my mother is free. Free at last. And me? I will continue to seek solace in God and every living creature. Not in ashes. Not in trying to change the past.
While visiting Marie and my beautiful granddaughters over July 4th week, I said that perhaps mom’s strong faith, returned to her as her dementia progressed. She lived in utter gratitude daily for papa caring for her and any and all things my son, Matt, and his then wife, did for her. Total gratitude.
I believe the gratitude my mother displayed taught me to place great importance upon healing (with love and conscious awareness) those who carry her blood. All of her love beats within my spiritually open heart.
I Am Free.
Blessed be. OM

An Independent Soul on a Mission to Connect Heaven and Earth

Connecting Heaven and Earth

More and more each day, I am finding the truths embedded in the ancient Chinese wisdom that Lama Nicholas Packard shared with me recently. And that our health is directly attributed to our thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

Finding truths

If I want to be well and healthy, I must strike a balance between my true nature, which I can feel the soul-alignment of in my body when I need to make a choice about whatever is going on. Yes, I can justify and rationalize, or choose to push through obstacles, but in the end, it’s how I FEEL that must be my guide. Else, I will suffer. And I do not want to suffer.

At times, I’ve been startled and taken aback by my own reactivity to people’s actions (even those whom I admire / have admired) but also to whom, I FELT a negative reaction–so much so, that I had to break away. This has happened to me before, perhaps my whole life–but I didn’t fully understand until recently.

I am an independent person

I am such an independent person–who else would write a blog called, Take It Upon Yourself? I bet very few people. And it’s also few that I can work closely with for any long stretch of time. I yearn to feel the resonance of balance.

I am an independent soul on a mission to connect Heaven and Earth by building mutually joyful and healthy relationships. Said another way, I am here as a woman of independent nature, on a mission to connect and heal people. To do this, will require balance. If I can feel negative vibrations, then easily bring them into balance–okay. But if not, depending upon the strength of the negative vibrations, I will need to make a different choice. And I am able to do that happily with gratitude for all I have learned.

In Alignment

Assume for a moment that we’re birds of a feather. Both of us are interested in the same people, and read the same books, but if you believe in the concepts that we “can never get it wrong”, and “there is value in everything”, yet condescend or be critical of a small action (especially for something that goes against core beliefs of mine, such as of Transparency and Sharing), that is going to resonate with me as a distinct, NO. And I will move on and leave the group or partnership.

Examples of alignment

At this particular time, I work on a team with someone whom I agree and align with their knowledge and experience of nutrition, vitamins, and supplements. And while I have learned, and would love to learn more from this person, and I respect her to a point, she can’t seem to be responsible, show up to work, put in honest effort to the project, or contribute to the team. She’s just not a team player.

If I had my druthers and the autonomy to move the person to another team, I would–but I don’t. Unfortunately, if I have to work with this person, the ill feelings (that I allow the disharmony to bring), will make me sick. And I cannot give to others if I am sick. So, though it’s been three years, trust me, the end is near. (Eventually, I left, and a month later, that person was fired.)

I am a patient person, but when enough is enough–I’ll leave. It’s happened before with me, and it will happen again–until I connect with someone, or some team, where I can find and offer Balance.

Moving on

Suffering imbalance is one reason why people leave businesses, relationships, partnerships, and so on. We all must do what feels right, or suffer. I choose what feels right to me, what feels harmonious and loving. Because if I don’t, I’m fighting my true nature. And when we work with split energies, they can tear you apart.

In another example, let’s take the partnership that I accepted based on my ego of being needed and honored. One might think the partnership was a good thing, right? Yet, we mutually ended it–mostly because I allowed my ego to be offended.

Everyone has an ego, whether large or small. One with a large ego would be best served to learn how to communicate with their staff. If you’re a manager and can’t communicate properly, you should not be a manager. Period. A primary facet of Management IS communication.

Experientially learning all of this, I now realize that I will never be balanced, or feel successful in my mission to connect people, until I can find a team to work with who will allow me to bring out the best in them, for the good of the cause, and shine my eternal soul light.

Now, just what brought about all of this newfound enlightenment?

Meet Lama Nicholas Packard…

A few weeks ago, I had the profound JOY of receiving a one-on-one healing session with Lama Nicholas Packard–who has recently come to visit our conscious St Petersburg, Florida community after living in India and China for over 30 years!
I made the appointment with Lama Nicholas for holistic health career guidance, as well as some intermittent pain in the body.
I have been meditating daily since Oct. 2015, and observing my thoughts. I’ve been feeling that my current work is not in alignment with my soul’s purpose. One could also say that I’ve become disillusioned and apathetic.
I can no longer work for certain companies, and I’ve recently began expressing this fact to recruiters when they call me. I do not mince words. I do not align with companies who make, or even indirectly support companies who make products that injure people.
This stance puts me out of working for any company that creates man-made chemical products. If you are part of a company whose products harm people, do not call me. I have to draw the line in the sand.

I learned from Lama Nicholas that he believes Artificiality is killing us. And I agree. Obviously, there are natural things that can harm us also, but for us to go out of our way to develop things that harm–that’s insane.

Signs

Right from the beginning of our session, as we began talking, a little finch bird came near to me, hiding under the table next to me. Was it there to let me know it was safe to express what makes my heart sing?

Lama Nicholas first showed me my birth and life path based on a Chinese numerology system. My birthdate equals a 1, which makes me an independent type. And oh my, can I affirm this is true! Looking back over my life, I can see that as a sure pattern in me, as well as the fact that I write this blog. I don’t always need to be right, but I need to be heard!

Life path

I learned that my life path is a number 2. That means I seek Connection. And that building relationships, even so far as connecting Heaven to Earth, is my mission and purpose! Is it any wonder that I was given the message, “We Are All Connected” many years ago?

And yes, sometimes to build, one must know when to disconnect. Pruning a bush allows for more growth. So again, I am to seek balance in this quest as I move forward.

More signs

A beautifully tall, white egret walked up to us; it actually seemed to look me in the eye for a moment! The egret brought me comfort in this new experience and reminded me that I was still grounded to nature–though we were in the city, we were only a couple of blocks from the Gulf of Mexico. I also took this to mean that my meeting with Lama Nicholas would open me to even deeper knowledge of myself.

The challenge

Do you sense the dichotomy though? A strong willed independent woman, who must connect with others to build relationships and usher Heaven to Earth? Wow!!!! I will need help!
The funny thing is, I’ve never been good at asking for help!
Only since my daughter gave birth to my granddaughter, have I learned along with her–to verbally ask for “a little help, please“–as it’s just not something that seems natural to me to do!
As for the Chinese animal that my birth year aligns to, I am on the cusp of the pig, and the tiger. The negative side of the pig means that I would feel a lot of fear (which I don’t), and the tiger signifies frustration. Bingo! I am very frustrated currently. Unfortunately, 30, 40, or 50 years of frustration can lead to Cancer!
Yet, the positive side of the tiger is that I am unstoppable! Yay!

A healer

Lama Nicholas told me that I also have a master number of 11, which means I am a healer. In addition:
  • I am called to a BIG mission
  • I can use the tigers’ determination + my independent spirit to bridge communities (spiritual communities perhaps?)
  • I will joyously work to connect Heaven to Earth
  • To facilitate teamwork by cooperation and balance, not to “win” as an entrepreneur
As to why I feel so much frustration at work: I need structure and am committed to working in a dynamic team–and one person on our team is arrogantly independent and adamantly refuses to work on our team, or even show up to work during core hours!
I now realize that I seek to assist others in their own healing journey as my life’s mission. And that using my hands to write, and heal others, will be key to my purpose.

The healing

After Lama Nicholas and I finished our conversation about life mission and purpose, we moved to two chairs facing each other for the physical healing part of the session to occur. I will add here though, that I really think the healing work began in and through me days before our actual meeting.
Since I had complained of an errant pain on the left side of my body, Lama Nicholas picked up and held my left leg and foot and pressed (not pinched or squeezed) but pressed with his fingers on the side of the fourth toe. I writhed in my chair with every muscle in my body tensing! It was very painful for a few seconds, but it eased quickly. I felt lightheaded and began to breathe deeply. Lama Nicholas gave me a cup of water and talked about what had happened so my mind could grasp it.
The toes are end points of meridians. And the fourth toe is the end point of the gallbladder meridian. Now, I didn’t know that I was having any gallbladder issues, but Lama did!! Note: my grandfather died of gallbladder cancer.
Next, we moved to the little toe! It hurt too, but not as bad, though my face was wincing and I was still tensing as if struggling to get away. The little toe is the end of the kidney meridian. I feel that I don’t have to explain to you what the meridians are. If you don’t know, you can Google that.
Looking back on the experience, I was surprised that I didn’t cry, cuss, scream, or such. Just tensed up and had a strong desire to pull away. To me, this also seems indicative of how I’ve reacted to other painful events in my past. A sort of quiet inward suffering, though usually with tears. I have never been a fighter or aggressive type.

Qi

One of the biggest things Lama Nicholas taught me how to do was how to bring in and cultivate Qi in the body.
Lama showed me the proper way to hold my hands together over my belly button (Dantian) while breathing deeply through the nose–holding my inhale to a count of 3 or 5 with my belly pushing outward and into my hands. Then, exhaling and pulling my belly button in towards my spine as far as I could manage and holding the exhalation to a count of 3 or 5.
Lama told me to visualize the in breath, as if it were coming into my belly, and the exhale coming out of my hands! Eventually, I made a big circle with my hands to push the Qi down on the exhale. Just this lesson alone was amazing!
Lama worked on my left arm and showed me how working the lung meridian made my tears flow–I had no idea why I began crying as he pressed points on my arm on one side, then conversely I laughed as he pressed the heart meridian points on the other side of the arm!
Feeling fantastic after the experience is an understatement. I kept saying, “Wow, Wow, Wow” after we completed the session. Amazing!

Resonance

Though I am primarily an analytical thinker, you might like to know how I feel about this healing experience from my heart (or emotional intelligence).
Intuitively, I fully resonated with the information that came from Lama Nicholas and the numerology of why I was born into this lifetime, and why–up to this point–life has seemed to be a struggle.

Energy

Energetically, I felt motivated and driven to succeed in the living of my unique purpose to build new relationships, and strengthen the relationships with those already in my life. To move from the sidelines and out onto the playing field of life, to use a sports analogy.

Insights

New insights have come, such as the knowing that writing does fulfill my purpose, but so does art, working with clay, applying essential oils to people’s hands and feet, and so forth.

Words of my mother

My mother always called me her “miracle baby” because I was the only one that lived out of six pregnancies. I believe her now because through me, all of my mom’s six babies are on the planet. Had any of my choices, or those of my daughter been any different that might not have been so. Gratefully, all things work in harmony and order in this Universe. I see that now.

Takeaways

This healing experience affected me mentally, by charging me up and giving me a zest for life, spiritually, by connecting me to the Divine and knowing Qi connects us all, and physically, by moving stagnant energies in my body and propelling me to learn more about Qigong, perhaps even one day teach, Qigong/Tai Chi!
I now know my purpose is to connect people and bring or connect heaven to earth. I chose a big mission, before my birth, for this lifetime and with tiger’s determination, I know I can do it.
I know that I was not born to be an entrepreneur, because of my #2 life path, which means I seek balance. I need a partner who is a #2. I know how to make money, be an excellent partner, and develop enthusiastic teams, so I am ready!
My morning and nighttime routines now include Qigong. I have been doing the deep breathing before sleep each night, just as Lama suggested. I am experiencing a dramatic shift in my thinking each day and noticing that habits are changing.
Intuitively, I took a picture of myself before the healing session, and I just took one this morning. I look much happier!

Life changed

I know my life has dramatically been altered by meeting Lama Nicholas. I feel more energy, look and feel happier, and I am emphatically motivated to move into my life’s purpose without fear or hesitancy. And as before, I will be as water, always seeking balance–but now I understand why.
Another output from my healing session with Lama Nicholas was that I signed up to become certified at reflexology, something that a friend had suggested I try (years ago), but only now makes perfect sense to do!
Stay tuned for my next article about Qigong. You see, after taking my first two Qigong/Tai Chi classes with Grand Master Lama Nicholas, I signed up for more and believe that Qigong will become a daily practice for the rest of my life.
Be the person your Soul knows you are.
Blessings to you in ALL ways,
OM

Who taught us to be right?

Who taught us right from wrong?

When we are born as babies we only really know how to FEEL. We cry when we don’t feel good.

So, it may seem like an odd question to ask, but as we grow older it seems that we come upon this “need to be right” and that it’s actually more important for us to “be right” about anything, any topic, than it is to FEEL good. But, why?

Observations of a baby

Returning to the observation of a baby. An infant does not know right from wrong. In any sense of that. A newborn can’t talk, or do much of anything except cry when he or she doesn’t feel good. It will cry when it’s wet or dirty in the diaper. It will cry when it’s hungry. It will cry if it has pain in it’s tiny body. It can sleep, once it gets tired enough, in any situation–not even a lot of noise or a wrong bodily position can keep it from sleeping. Any parent can witness that.

Who taught us right from wrong?
Who taught us right from wrong?

Defending our side

So, why is it that as children, most definitely as teenagers and nearly all the time as adults, we will argue and fight to the nth degree when we believe we’re right about something. We’ll fuss with our parents–and go out of our way to challenge them. Argue with our friends–even the ones we like most. Contradict our beloveds. Fight with nearly anyone whose truth differs from our own.

I believe it’s because at some point, perhaps little by little, without much conscious awareness–we’re taught that it’s better to be right, than to feel good.

Human condition

And therein lies one our basic human dilemmas. And I believe one of the biggest tangles that we need to unravel (overcome), if we want to be healthy and live a peaceful life.

Examples

Someone I met (the week of April 11, 2017) mentioned to me that there’s an “aspect of ourselves” that feels bad/guilty, in his opinion after one is “born again” as a Christian, after they do something wrong.

Following that conversation, just a few days later, I met another lady (from India) who believes this aspect of internal knowing is in ALL of us. Going so far to say that her mother had told her and her siblings when they were small, that when they did something wrong they didn’t need to come and confess to her, because she said they would have to deal with their wrongdoing INSIDE of themselves! Yes, that they would certainly feel bad, maybe not immediately, but soon–all within themselves, no punishment from her or their father required!

About this same time, I began learning from Lama Nicholas Packard that we come sort of pre-packaged with virtue. We are all inherently GOOD! Aha! Our virtue may have been squashed in various ways while we were young, but we know deep within ourselves what is right.

In conclusion

I believe the Divine Spark lives inside each of us. We know “the right thing to do”, or the “right way to treat others”, though obviously, some people choose to fight, or hide from that knowing. Ah, the hiding in the Garden of Eden! Maybe, just perhaps, that was the hiding that we were being told about–not an actual bodily nakedness, but a spirit / soul hiding!

What do you think?

Got allergies? What are you wearing?

Combination of two articles originally published May 2014, EXAMINER

What are you wearing?

I don’t think many of us are aware that our allergies can be directly related to what we wear, or put on our bodies. Things do penetrate the skin. That’s why they say we have pores – we are porous! And though it’s true, that molecules of whatever have to be small enough to get through the pores of our skin, I’ve heard it said that what we put ON our bodies could impact our health just as much as what we put IN our bodies!

Think about the chemicals and dyes used in the manufacturing process of clothing. When we sweat, our pores are open, and whatever is laying against the skin can enter INTO us!

What allergens are you wearing?
What allergens are you wearing?

Have you ever handled garlic (or onions) and within a few moments began to taste it? Either the food penetrates the skin, entering our pores so quickly (rushing into your bloodstream) that you begin tasting it in your mouth, or your fingers have taste buds! Either way, science has discovered that we have taste buds in other parts of our bodies!

The science

Going further, this scientific evidence suggests bitter foods open lung passages (scientists are studying taste buds in the lungs to help cure asthma). And when I use my Young Living essential oils on the bottom of my feet, depending upon the oil I use, I have tasted the flavor in my mouth!

Manufacturing safety data sheets (MSDSs) have warned people for years “AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN” for hundreds of chemicals. Why? Granted some chemicals are so strong, they are caustic (could literally burn) your skin. But do other reasons exist?

The Center for Disease Control’s PDF document states that, health impacts may occur at the point of contact with the chemical, or the chemical may enter the body through compromised skin (such as a wound) or by permeating the skin. Then the chemical can be distributed by the bloodstream, causing or contributing to a health problem somewhere else in the body.” It continues, “Exposure to organophosphate pesticides, which can enter the body through the skin, may cause damage to the nervous system.

Sensitization is another type of health effect resulting from dermal exposure to chemicals. Combined health effects from a single chemical exposure may also occur.” So when they say “combined health effects” is that a little bit like saying they don’t know – because it could depend upon you combine the various chemicals.
I remember from high school science class we’re not supposed to mix bleach and ammonia, but it sounds to me like there’s a lot more going on here.

Later in that same document it states, “Chemicals absorbed through the skin can damage an entire body system, including the immune system, nervous system, or respiratory system.”

The chemicals between us

My question then becomes, what chemicals? Is there a list?

The chemicals listed in the PDF document that can cause skin irritation and/or damage are:
• Epoxy resins
• Chromates
• Rubber chemicals
• Amine hardeners
• Phenol-formaldehyde resins
• Pesticides
• Herbicides
• Carcinogens
• Tar
• Asphalt
• Some disinfectants
• Fiberglass
• Food products
• Oils
• Lubricants
• Solvents
• Isocyanates (contained in many paints and other building materials, like spray-on insulation and roofing materials)

I am sure that is not an all inclusive list.

Also, why do they list “food products”? Could that be like hot peppers that burn my skin when i touch them?

Absorbing through the skin

Skin care experts will explain how many layers of dermis (skin) we have on our body, but anyone who’s gotten a tattoo can tell you, some areas of the body seem to have thinner skin than others – because the tattoo in those sensitive areas hurt more than others (specifically near the underarm area vs. outside of the upper arms).

Vitamin patches deliver nutrients via transdermal supplement delivery system which, effectively moves ingredients into the body while bypassing stomach acids. Western (traditional) medicine has used these types of patches applied to the skin for years to deliver everything from heart medication to hormone therapies. Also, smokers are very familiar with this delivery method because it’s how nicotine therapy is often applied – as a patch on the arm.

What can you do? How small do the molecules have to be before they can pass through our skin? It depends not just upon the size of the molecule but also the solubility of the molecule. It may also depend upon your own personal sensitivity or how often you are exposed.

Next time you begin sneezing consider what you are wearing, or what you’ve recently applied to your skin. Check out this list of commonly used toxic chemicals in your clothes (thanks to Silver Needle and Thread). When I saw acetone on the list, it reminded me that I quit polishing my fingernails years ago, hence, I do not use acetone fingernail polish remover (yes I know they sell non-acetone remover but it never worked as well so when I used to polish my nails I used the acetone stuff, ugh). I also believe the acetone penetrates the nail bed and contributes to dis-ease.

The more you begin digging into the topic of “what we put on our body impacts our health” the more convoluted and intense it becomes!

Let me encourage you to check out this video by Dr. Brian Clement of Hippocrates Health Institute regarding his new book, “Killer Clothes.”

Dr. Clement states that it’s very important to buy organic cotton materials and clothing because cotton is one of the most heavily pesticide-sprayed crops and we see pesticide and herbicide on that CDC list!

Since my first article on this topic, quoted below, I’ve been scouring the internet for organic cotton clothing. I have a short list now, and will continue to add to it as I find more reputable companies.

Here’s one of my source lists – Green People. The other source list I’m using is: All Organic Links.

Jiffy shirts
Ecoland
• Synergy
Maggie’s
Fair Indigo
Gypsy05
Hemp Sisters
Hanna Andersson
Goddess Gear
• Organic Fiber Apparel

Also, while doing your online shopping, enter the word “organic” in the search box (if they offer a search, most do) and see what you can find – like I did on the Gaiam site.

I’m also really getting into Hemp made clothing too! And bamboo! If you just do a little research, you can find small (perhaps even local) people to buy handmade clothing from these wonderful, natural, and sustainable clothes!

Note: Cotton Seed Casual Wear. are 100% cotton clothing but are not organic – for those of us transitioning from unnatural fabrics, they are super easy care and comfortable, my skin in the Florida heat really breathes so much easier in these clothes than all the polyester, rayon, spandex, and blends I used to wear.

Common Sense

Millions of people think they need some authority (doctor or other) to tell them what to eat, drink, or put on their body! Bogus! Use your common sense!

Look at history. People didn’t start having all the various ills they have today before processed foods, synthetic fiber clothing and furnishings, and chemicals became such an integrated part of our day-to-day lives! It just doesn’t pass the sanity test to think we can put crap into our body, wrap ourselves in synthetics and chemicals, yet expect to experience vibrant health and longevity.

I have a family member who was exposed to cement on his legs (it got down inside his rubber boots, and rubbed against his skin) which, resulted in irritation from the alkaline nature of the cement. He had to go to the emergency room and have his skin scrubbed – a very painful process! We have learned he may have also become sensitized due to the chrome salts present in the concrete.

As well, in the 1960s my maternal grandfather died of cancer! Since he didn’t smoke or drink alcohol, I have often looked back at what I know of his life to find possible causes. He was a truck driver and inhaled a lot of exhaust and gas fumes. He also worked on his own truck – putting his hands directly in fuel and other solvents. I imagine the combinations of those things contributed greatly to his untimely death at 57 years of age. He and my grandmother did live directly across a small river from a rayon factory though. That factory was sued for polluting the river and later sold / went out of business. (I’m sure that’s another reason that I do not wear clothing made of rayon.)

If you work with concrete or any other potentially hazardous substance please wear your personal protective equipment (PPE) and always consult the MSDS for the item you’re using. Yes, there’s even an MSDS for Formula 409.

Contact the following centers for more information:
• Indexed Dermal Bibliography at (1995–2007)
• NIOSH’s Skin Exposures and Effects topic page
• NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards and Web site
• Quick Selection Guide to Chemical Protective Clothing Fourth Edition
• OSHA Dermal Exposure topic page

I am committed to help get the word out and show people what you put on and in your body makes a difference.
With all things, have FUN and ease! 😉

Why do people think they can put synthetics and chemicals on their skin and not suffer some weird effect? I guess it’s because we aren’t aware that these things can penetrate the skin.

How is it then, we can put a patch on our body with something containing vitamins or substances to help us quit smoking and we fully expect it to pass into the body? I suppose it comes down to “how” it happens, and how small the molecules have to be before they can pass through our skin – the largest organ of the body.

Look at the natural skincare aisle at Whole Foods, or other health food stores. There are so many more natural skincare items available now. I think we’re finally waking up to that part, but what about or clothes, or our household furnishings?

If wearing fake stuff can affect our health, how about sitting, or sleeping on them? I had been thinking of writing this article for some time, but when I saw this article, I knew I needed to put my thoughts to paper (well, internet).

The state of California is moving to get cancer-causing flame retardants out of home furnishings.

History

So to back up a little bit. My mother was told by a chiropractor in the 1960s to put only natural fiber clothing, and shoes on me – no plastics! I had been diagnosed with asthma (around 1968) and it was this doctors understanding that in order to clear my body of illness I needed to wear natural fiber clothing (along with several other treatment offerings) this was basic to allow my body to heal naturally.

To my mom’s credit, she attempted this, making / sewing many of my garments for several years, and buying me only leather shoes. In high school I took four years of home economics classes and learned how to make my own clothes. However, with the advent of my mother needing to work outside the home, and my desire to get a job at age fifteen (perhaps also since my health had improved), along with the ease and cheap cost of manufactured clothing, slowly we started buying and wearing “anything and everything” sold in the big box stores.

I do recall also, that flame retardants were introduced on the fabrics. I am not sure we were following, at that time, why flame retardants could cause a health problem but some were banned in 1977 due to toxic effects. Now most Americans test positive for traces of flame retardants in our bodies. (See this wiki page for more information on this).

For a more broad explanation about why flame retardants and synthetics are bad for us – check out this video by Dr. Brian Clement of Hippocrates Health Institute regarding his new book, “Killer Clothes”. Dr. Clement states that it’s very important to buy organic cotton materials and clothing because cotton is one of the most heavily pesticide-sprayed crop!

For about the last eight years I’ve been wearing cotton bras but in the last year I’ve found, ordered, and have begun wearing organic cotton shirts from Jiffy shirts with jeans, even under suit jackets with slacks to my professional office. I also started checking the labels of my jeans and getting rid of the ones that added that stretchy material which, I hadn’t even paid any attention.

I believe the toxins put onto fabric is another very meaningful reason why manufacturers ask us to first wash clothing when we buy it and take it home, BEFORE wearing. However, I have a feeling just washing is not enough to properly protect ourselves.

Committed to organic fiber

I am committed to buying and wearing organic cotton socks and underwear and buy these for my granddaughter and great-granddaughter from Ecoland. Also, I am slowly changing out my wardrobe of office and casual attire to cotton clothing from Cotton Seed Casual Wear. They are super comfortable, easy-care (just wash and dry, no ironing), and they don’t shrink!

Many people with allergies do not even consider it could be the rayon, nylon, elastic, and polyester they’re wearing that is contributing to the problem.

I know the government passed a law about flame-retardant cloth years ago, but actually – there’s no law stating you have to wear it.

It can’t hurt to wear more natural, non-chemically treated clothing – can it? Unless you’re a fireman and need flame-retardant suits, I just can’t think of any other reason why its necessary to wear. Even so, they can wear cotton underneath all of that – so the chemically treated fiber is not laying against the skin.

Find relief for yourself or your loved ones. Pay the farmer or the doctor.

Using Emotional Freedom Technique to feel better

Originally published 2008 on my former website.

Using Emotional Freedom Technique

I believe any changes you are seeking to make in your life begin in your mind. That old saying, “I’ve made up my mind” has been around for a long time for a reason. Also, ever notice how many times a day you say, “I think…” in a conversation?

We are thinking every moment of our lives. Everything we feel and do starts first with our thoughts. So, I challenge you, to try to be aware of the thoughts you are thinking and see how many are limiting ones, or thoughts, that if you just “let go of” might make you feel better.

It works like this: a thought comes, then the feeling associated, then an action. Contemplate this.

Use Emotional Freedom Technique to feel better
Use Emotional Freedom Technique to feel better

This post is focused on something called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

How it began

In April of 2008, I met with Janice Cunningham at HealthQuest in Titusville, Florida to see if we could stop me from a lifelong habit/addiction of picking (and/or chewing) my fingers. I previously had been a “nail biter” but an ex-husband broke me of the habit by smacking my hand anytime he caught me with it near my mouth. Yes, negative reinforcement works – to a point – but it wasn’t such a pleasant way! Meeting with Janice was the BEST $125 I EVER spent (up until that point) because aside from my body being cured of the addiction, my body also experienced other profound affects from just one EFT session!

I highly recommend Janice to everyone who is ready to work through their own “issues.”

You may be wondering what I mean when I say that I had been “picking my fingers.” So, it seemed that I only traded my bad habit of nail biting for something less noticeable. I was pulling at my cuticles, hang nails or any other rough areas of skin around my finger nails.

In 2007, I bought a book called, “Tapping the Healer Within” because my acupuncture doctor, Joan Massey (also from HealthQuest) had told me about it, and because I had tried everything else. I found that book to be a bit convoluted and besides, it mostly dealt with phobias and anxieties – neither of which I thought I had. More importantly, while reading the book, I found it too difficult to hold the book and try to tap on my body with my other hand. Or, maybe that was just my excuse – but the book, though interesting to me, wasn’t enough to help.

A few weeks prior to my personal EFT visit, my husband and I watched a show on the TLC television channel called, “I Can Make You Thin.” On the show, the host using EFT to help people overcome their food cravings. Because I had also tried everything to lose weight, I decided that I really needed some one-on-one personal guidance with both my weight issues and the finger picking habit. And much to my delight, after a 2.5 hour session with Janice, where I fully described both of my issues, I found resolution to some deep seated disturbing mental “programming.”

I had the best night’s sleep ever after that session! I guess I had not even realized that my sleep pattern had also been an issue.

So, aside from experiencing relief from finger picking that day, the habit does not reoccur unless I am stressed. I began a routine of exercising, eating less and so forth, so, the session also helped me let go of excess weight. I believe letting go of those issues aided my body in losing the weight.

The EFT session

During my EFT session with Janice, we spent nearly two hours going back into my past, into my former marriage, teenage years and finally, childhood years. I realized that I had picked up my habit of finger nail biting at the same time I had been diagnosed with the asthma – when I was six years of age. My mom has always been a terrible nail biter, biting her nails down into the quick (pink part), so I knew I’d picked up the habit from my mom, but I had not realized just how much of a connection there was between that habit, my asthma, and my mom.

I fully became aware, during my EFT session, that when my mom’s father died, my maternal grandfather, that this deeply affected her — and ME.

The important thing about that experience is to know now, that when I was a child, how much that event upset my mom and how fully connected I was to my mom and her EMOTIONS. It was natural for my mom to be upset about losing her father. But, I had taken her upset on as MINE. I vividly recall believing if she could lose him, I could lose her. And that I couldn’t live – couldn’t breathe in fact – without my mom.

I remembered (during my EFT session), that as a child, when I would say my nightly prayers, that I would plead with God not to take my mom away from me. This may not make sense to many people, but I am an only child, the only child who lived of the six pregnancies my mom had. My mom (and dad) have always told me how much they love me (not a bad thing in and of itself) and how precious I am, a miracle, gift, etc. But, because of this, I became a super responsible adult. I had held on to some deeply rooted beliefs about having to “live up to any and all expectations” and so forth.

My EFT session sort of felt like it had been a combination of counseling and hypnosis (though I was awake and totally aware of what was happening). It seemed as though Janice had been talking to me on a deep soul level.

Getting to the root cause

During the session, Janice recommended I take some notes, both of things that I was becoming aware of, as well as how to be able to run through this process again on my own if need be.

I noted that I had always tried to “save my mom”.
I am not my thoughts.
My perception influenced my thoughts, but my perceptions were not always “true.”
The genie is out of the bottle.
I do not need the old thoughts.
Am I the thought or the awareness?
Am I “this” thought, or am I the awareness of “this” thought?
Who sent “this” thought? (My pain-body)
Examine “this” thought. It will probably be a limiting thought, a no-win thought, and one that would eventually bring pain.
To let go of “this” thought: 1) focus on the feeling of my breath in and out, 2) be the observing presence.
When I observe I suspend space.
Inspiration = In spirit, and inspiration fills me, lights me up from the inside – the same as when someone is in creative mode; you feel the creative energy inside, in your heart or chest, not in the head area.
The Aha moment when the head agrees to the inner knowing.
My nails = my own fear and anxiety to my feeling, as though I could never fix/help/save my mom.
A trigger for me is when I am faced with something I can’t do anything about, when I feel a sense of powerlessness.
But I’m a super responsible person – I’m supposed to DO something vs. just BE.
(This is the conflict that causes the habitual negative behavior).

Once we got to the root cause of my habit, it effortlessly left me.

EFT helped me to realize that even if I could pluck my mom out of her seemingly dysfunctional situation, that the change would not bring her happiness and that after all, it’s her life. It is what it is. I cannot “fix” the world. I am not here to “save” anyone else.

That “saving” realization freed me. Now, I still have other issues to work through, but wow, I really have that peace that passes all understanding after one EFT session! I have just been able to deal with things and just BE.

Highly recommended

I can’t say enough about EFT. If you think you’ve tried everything to find relief from anxiety, depression, weight issues, nerve problems, etc. I implore you to try EFT. You do not need to “believe in it” for it to work for you. And what do you have to lose?

Here is a link to explain what EFT is all about: http://www.emofree.com/

You probably already know that most physical ailments begin in the mind. I’ve met many doctors over the years who have told me this too, but it is best explained: “It is an established fact that psychosomatic disorders (PSD) are in fact responsible for a great share of OTC medications, mainly for anxiety and depression. Psychotherapy deals in harmonizing the agonized mind, while Aromatherapy acts as a support system for the mind as well as the dis-eased physical body/ physiology.” per a quote from Dr. Ravi Ratan.

Natural health: Relief from anxiety using EFT / Tapping

Originally published on EXAMINER Sept. 7, 2013

Have you ever had the experience of someone making you mad / angry, and in that moment you either didn’t know what to say, or you would cuss, hurl insults, flip a certain finger, yell, scream, throw a fit, or act in some other seemingly uncontrollable manner?

Maybe in the moment of confrontation you go into a rage, attack, cry, pout, or run away? Or you just can’t wait to get home, so you can tell your spouse, tell the offending person off on Facebook, slide into emotional eating, or make gooey fattening comfort food and chow down into oblivion.

I have great news!! A healthy, non-calorie, alternative you can use on yourself to calm your central nervous system! And it’s FREE, once you learn it, and you can do it at nearly any time.

I’ve found relief from the anxiety experienced during those highly charged confrontations. Plus, I’ve learned WHY I never seem to know what to say in that hostile moment.

It’s how we’re wired, and it has everything to do with the fight or flight response! The amygdala in our brains is actually so busy trying to figure out if we should scream or flee from the offending person that the analytical part of our brain can’t get a word in, or out! Seems funny to say that now but it really is what happens and that too, is frustrating – causing us even more irritation in the moment!

The confrontation ends and a few minutes later, or an hour, or a day, we think to ourselves, “why didn’t I say…”.

When I get upset I’d rather not feel nervous or tense, I’d rather like to laugh, walk away, or be able to just shrug it all off. Instead, even if it’s only my self talk, I get irritated and think “get a life”, or such. But, I don’t like that. I’d like to always be conscious of my thoughts and in control of the words that come out of my mouth. Wouldn’t you?

I’d like to say anything other than hurl an insult (which I admit is rare but has happened). I hear people say, “it is what it is”, “life goes on”, “God bless you”, or simply laugh and never give it any thought. Me? Noooo… I tend to bring it all home and stew about it.

Ruminating on negative things leads to stress. And if carried around long enough it could affect my health.

Thankfully though, I am transforming for the better! I choose to stay in conscious alignment with my true nature more every day. I choose to let it all go, right then, right in the moment. Ahhh. Before, how I felt depended on whatever had influenced my day. Now, I really am empowered!

I found out about EFT years ago when I learned of the meridian system of the body from my acupuncture doctor. I even went to an EFT coach for one-on-one help with a couple of issues. Later, I took some friends to the EFT coach.

I’ve been practicing EFT /Tapping much more regularly for a host of things, and I love it! So much so, that I am talking and writing about it.

On Sept. 5, 2013 I gave my first FREE public EFT / Tapping presentation!

I really enjoyed sharing this information with new friends at our RV park.

Seven people came out for the event, and I’ve already received heartwarming feedback. It’s helped people feel better, and that’s the whole point. Relief! Results!

The attendees were: a senior couple, three single ladies, a single guy, and my husband (8 including me)! Woot! The single gentleman was concerned for his doggie at home – who experiences storm anxiety so we even tapped about that! Great group! So open to learning, sharing, and tapping together! We tapped on anxiety, on the economy/government/politics, and all the stormy weather we’ve been having this lately in St. Petersburg, FL.

If you don’t have a clue about EFT / Tapping, I have several websites I can point you to and videos. I’ll include several links below.

Here are the basics:

Talk about your problem, negative feelings, anything unwanted, sad emotion, depressing thing that’s going on IN THE MOMENT while tapping on the side of one hand with two or three fingers from the other hand. Rate on a scale of 1-10 how much you’re feeling the negative or unwanted emotion before you start and after you end. This will help you to know the Tapping provided relief.

Say this “problem” 3 times, beginning with “Even though” and ending with “I deeply and completely love and accept myself or something about myself that I believe is true about ME, like: my body, my soul, my feelings, my emotions, my name, etc.)”. You will want the statement to be true, so you can use your own words, the ones that resonate your truth. Here are some examples of this:

The scenario: A clerk is short, brisk, rude or some such thing and it upsets me. I walk out in a huff vowing to myself never to go back to that store again! I feel the irritation and maybe even anger in my body. I do not want to carry that negative emotion to the next interaction I have with anyone, much less all day, much less all week, etc. So as I leave the store and enter my car I say out loud to myself while tapping the side of my hand:

  • Even though I’m so annoyed with that !@#$ clerk at the store, and my anger is warranted, I could have just (insert what you usually say here, punched, kicked, yelled, cussed) at or to her, I deeply and completely accept my feelings
  • Even though that clerk was really rude to me, she totally ticked me off, I deeply and completely honor my soul
  • Even though she was a stupid, ignorant, jerk, idiot, moron, you name it… and should have thought before she spoke, I deeply and completely love and respect myself

Now, I move through the rest of the tapping points, choosing one word from anything I just said about the problem to reinforce to my brain that I really did feel / experience this issue:

For each point tap 5 to 7 times, not necessary to count them just tap and talk and go with the flow. Also these words are just an example, say whatever your feeling. I realize you may not know what word to associate with the feeling but with practice that will come easier and easier.

  • Inside beginning of the eyebrow (Say out loud): I’m so irritated
  • Side of the eye: I say – I’m very frustrated
  • Below the eye: Ugh, I’m Upset
  • Below the nose and above the upper lip: Angry
  • Below the bottom lip, in the crease of the chin: I feel bullied
  • Collarbone point(s): Annoyed
  • Under the arm*: I’m really Mad
  • Top of the head: Flustered
  • Take a nice big deep breath

The under arm point for women is at the bra line, for men it’s about a hand width from the arm pit.

Repeat this process two or three more times, using different words. Hopefully you’ll notice that you’re choosing easier, lighter words because by the second or third round you’re feeling better! I’ve found the second round goes something like this:

  • Even though I got upset during that confrontation at the store, and believe I’m justified to feel the way I do, I deeply and completely choose to somehow get over it
  • Even though that clerk was a jerk, she probably didn’t set out to ruin, or spoil my day, I deeply and completely love and accept my intentions
  • Even though people should be nicer, I would like to practice what I preach, somehow forgive, and deeply and completely tune into some good feelings now

And then…

  • Inside beginning of the eyebrow: (tap 5-7 times on each of these points) Say out loud: I’m still aggravated
  • Side of the eye: I say – But somehow I want to let it go
  • Below the eye: That silly clerk, what was she thinking?
  • Below the nose and above the upper lip: Spoil my day
  • Below the bottom lip, in the crease of the chin: I’m justified in how I feel
  • Collarbone point(s): but I don’t want this to ruin my day
  • Under the arm*: I didn’t do anything wrong
  • Top of the head: I played no part in that
  • Take a nice big deep breath

Last round:

  • Even though all my feelings about this situation seem warranted, I deeply and completely comfort myself
  • Even though people may not always act their best, I deeply and completely honor all of my choices
  • Even though people make mistakes, I want to forgive and live in a state of gratitude no matter what is going on around me, I deeply and completely love and accept myself

Then…

  • Inside beginning of the eyebrow: (tap 5-7 times on each of these points) Say out loud: I’m feeling a little less upset
  • Side of the eye: I say – I’m still a bit annoyed
  • Below the eye: Because I don’t understand some people
  • Below the nose and above the upper lip: But I don’t want to carry this around like baggage all day
  • Below the bottom lip, in the crease of the chin: So, somehow I choose to let it go
  • Collarbone point(s): She’s already forgotten about it I bet
  • Under the arm*: I have no reason to continue to think about it either
  • Top of the head: So I guess letting it go really does feel better
  • Take a nice big deep breath

The photo / drawing that follows is a realistic example of the three (3) main EYE tapping points for our EFT work. Top end of eyebrow point, beside and under the eye. Below the nose / above the lip and below the bottom lip in the crease of the chin. Points are marked in pink.

The next drawing displays the tapping points marked in blue. This includes: top end of the eyebrow, beside and below the eye. Between nose and upper lip. Below the bottom lip on crease of chin. Also, where we tap on the top of the head.

Do you feel as though you are reaching the end of your rope? Please read this first!

Originally published on EXAMINER June 5, 2016.

Reaching the end of your rope?

If you feel as though you might be reaching the end of your rope, please reach out to someone! Do not give up hope! Don’t end it all. It might feel hopeless to you in this moment, but please talk with someone — anyone! Maybe, consider talking with someone new!

Reaching the end of your rope?
Reaching the end of your rope?

A coworker takes her own life

I once worked with a young lady who committed suicide. I didn’t know her. One morning, after my meditation, a thought dropped into my mind. How sad was it that she ended her life and had never even had one conversation with everyone in our office!

I had seen the young lady around the office. She had even worked with someone sitting right next to me once. I’d passed her in the hall. I’d said hello to her while washing our hands in the ladies room. But, we had never had one conversation. And we had worked for the same company for more than two years.

Introversion

I understand being an introvert. I am naturally introverted. But if you are going to make a conscious choice to end your life, which to me, would require a great deal of courage, wouldn’t you at least work up a little bit of that courage to talk with every person in your office, your neighbors, or someone walking down the street, FIRST?

Something new

What I am really suggesting is that there are untold opportunities to learn something new, experience a new way of looking at your problems, or perhaps, even a new way of living! Why would you want to end it all before even exploring any of those possibilities?

Somewhere, someone cares about you. And even if in this moment you can’t believe that could be true, YOU should care about you. Make a list, even if it’s just a mental list, of all of the things in your life that up to this point you’ve accomplished. Did you successfully get through elementary school, high school, college? Have you ever worked a job? Cared for a pet? Cared for a parent or a child? Have you ever told a joke, or made someone smile? If you could do any of those things, you can hold on for one more day. Give someone new a chance to show you life is worth living!

Tomorrow is another day. No man, woman, thing, or circumstance is worth ending your journey on this beautiful planet. Don’t take your own life!

Choices

You have choices!

Let’s say you’re in a narcissistic relationship. Perhaps even YOU might feel as though you are the narcissist.

You are worthy! Everyone is worthy of life!

Here are some links to direct you to my dear friend of mine, Beverly Banov Brown — who specializes in narcissistic relationship counseling.

Narcissistic relationships

Feeling blue?

Let’s say you’re depressed. And I know depression hurts. In this kind of situation, it kills.

Because I admit, you may be reading this from a very different mindset than the mindset that I wrote it, I will quote a dear friend of mine (who sent the following to me after she read the first publishing of this article). She wrote,

There is a difference between being depressed from the daily stresses of life and being clinically depressed. Unfortunately, when people suffer from clinical depression there is no space in their being to reach out to do the things you’ve suggested. There is no room in their chest for breath, no light in their heart to feel love from partners and family members. No energy for walks, only pain and it hurts to be alive. It’s a very dark place to live and one that is incredibly difficult to climb out of. In these situations, it is more helpful for a family member/loved one to be of service. Trying to “pick someone up” by being overly happy and energetic is misguided and a slap in the face to those who are suffering. Just sitting in silence and holding the space for their pain lessens the burden and creates an opening for dialogue. Try not to want to “fix” the person as they are not broken. In fact, they are very much alive and feeling the rawness of life itself. Lean into their pain and hold them as they tell you how dark it is. By sharing this space, it literally opens up new possibilities for a breath to be taken. It takes time and patience but each new breath will breathe life into the dark corners. Clinical depression is a life long battle and one that must be honored on a daily basis. Treat it as a friend, become intimate with it’s warning signs. Often times the person struggling with depression will feel a bout of it coming on. If caught before it has fully engaged the person’s mind, body and soul…then it is much easier to do the things that you’ve mentioned in your well written article. Thank you for addressing such an important issue. It needs to be talked about often and openly as so many of us suffer from this. Much of my life’s work will be directed toward people who struggle with depression and/or addiction.

In health and wellness, blessings to you.

My friend Robin poured this out to me from her wonderful open and loving heart. And from her experiential knowing of depression.

So, I am not a mental health counselor, nor did I originally write this article about those who are experiencing clinical depression per se. I am attempting though, to help you stop, breathe, or refocus–even if only in the smallest way–to give yourself a bit of hope and potentially the time to reach out to someone — anyone. I know suicide is a very complex and complicated subject, but I feel compelled to start somewhere after losing a beautiful young coworker.

After sharing the previous paragraph back to my friend, she wrote,

I hear you Sheila and am grateful that you are willing to write about this. My heart goes out to you and the loss that you experienced. Suicide is about clinical depression, the darkest and toughest depression to battle. My father took his own life one Sunday morning when I was 9 years old. He was bipolar with clinical depression on top of that. Those of us with parents that suffered from some form of mental illness, are oftentimes genetically predisposed to similar traits. My own battle with depression has led me into the belly of the beast. It’s a very scary experience for those who are standing in the fire. My advice to those who have loved ones that are going through this is to find them some immediate help. Waiting for a shift in their emotions is often a death sentence when truly at the bottom. You are a kind and loving person, I salute you for taking this subject on!

Yes, this subject is near and dear to me on many levels. The day that he took his life was the beginning of a very long journey for me. One that would take me decades to unravel. I have enormous empathy and compassion for human suffering. As long as we carry a body, we all suffer in different ways. Making yourself available to others with clear boundaries in place is a noble effort and one that is very much needed in this world! The one thing that I’m clear about…we are here to love and to help each other find our way home again.

Connections

So, I offer this updated article, that not only brings my thoughts, but those of my dear and beautiful friend to you in hopes that any of our words will help you in some way. I thank my friend for sharing her experience with us all, more than words can express! Much love! Hugs to you my dear heart!

You can write or call about any need, day or night, and a loving being will pray with you. We know you need someone who will listen to you and pray with you. Breath is always free. Focus on your breathing for awhile.

Go for a walk outside. See if you meet anyone along the way. Smile. Feel like you can’t? Try it anyway. One step at a time.

Sometimes we inherit (we “in hear” it; hear within) problems from our parent’s, relatives, or guardian’s — their argumentative or toxic relationships do not have to influence us though!

Sometimes we think we’ve made bad choices and cannot undo them. Think again.

If you are in a toxic relationship, consider if you care too much. Or perhaps you are an empath, always trying to help someone else. Now you’re drained of energy. Now you think there is no hope. But even false hope, is hope.

If you are an empath, know that empaths can naturally lean toward attracting narcissists. If you find that you’ve been trying to resolve someone else’s problems, and it’s all taking a toll on you, you need support! Only in movies are narcissists cured. Narcissists do not love themselves. And they can be very dangerous. Talk with someone who has the resources to help you.

The movie Moonstruck provides a glimpse into narcissism when Johnny’s mother is “dying everyday”. Some people go around claiming that they’re “dying everyday” for 20 years! In Moonstruck, Johnny’s mother manipulates the entire family. That character did not know “how to love”.

Go to YouTube and watch uplifting and informative videos, like the the ones presented by our good friend and life coach, Beverly Banov Brown.

If you are being mistreated or abused, consider this thought: People in pain cause other people pain. No one deserves to be bullied or abused. You do not deserve whatever negative thing someone is doing to you.

Try this

Some things to try in order to begin to feel hope and grace:

  • Put your hand on your heart and tell yourself that you love “you”. Say it again and again. Feel your heart beat. Relish in knowing it will beat for you even without you directing it to do so. Bless your heart.
  • Allow yourself to feel your pain, then as you exhale, allow a bit of it to leave your body. If someone wants to listen to your while you vent about what’s going on in your life, let them. Allow someone in.
  • Put your hands together when you pray. Don’t believe in prayer? Put your hands together and sit quietly. Ask for nothing. Just sit and breathe. Breathe deeply. Give yourself permission to cry, or laugh, or scream!
  • Scream! Afraid someone will hear you? Hope they hear you! You do not have to get through your situation alone.

What new and positive choices, are available to you now?

Life is for the living, go take a chance and live!

Talk to me about the deep things

Rollin’ in the deep

I always want to be here for you, as you have been here for me. To talk about the deep things. The things that really matter.

Talk about what matters
Talk about what matters

I know and understand that you and I might not be able to talk about these things in person. And that’s okay. You PM me on Facebook, or comment on my posts, and then we have email, Skype, or Google Hangout conversations. And every conversation, every one of you, matter to me. You inspire me to share deep thoughts via my Facebook posts and this blog, even though, I’v never personally met some of you.

I now have friends in Australia and England that I might never had had were it not for this blog. I am humbled and grateful. Not one of you has ever taken advantage of my time. For everything always happens in Divine time.

Some of you have reached out to me when you were going through  your “dark night of the soul”, perhaps because something in one of my blog posts resonated with you deeply. And I am forever changed, for the better, for our conversing on these important matters.

But it is not about me. It’s much larger than that. It’s about each of us knowing we can find someone to connect with on this beautiful planet of ours, even when we do not feel close enough to reach out to anyone.

In the dark

You have raised odd concerns and fears to me. I’ve held them close to my heart. I’ve pondered and responded only when I felt I had something I could offer. Mostly, it’s been that I care and that I’ll listen. (Well, “read” I guess is the better way of stating it.)

I feel my soul purpose in life is to listen and talk with others only about the deep things. Does that make sense?

I’ve never been a “small talk” kind of person. I like to dig deeper. I love to help connect people and assist them to heal wounds. I only hurt when others who’ve been in my circle do not (for whatever reason) find that they can talk with me. I am here. I’m available. And I am working on a way where we can all work together as we awaken.

An accountability partner

I can coach you, or simply point you to a healthier path. I can assist you to integrate all we’ve learned together. We can practice emotional freedom technique (EFT) together to ease body and mind. We can share and enjoy videos or songs together.

When you need someone to remind you to be as water, I am here. If you need God, you only need acknowledge your closeness to the Divine is as near to you as your next breath. You are never alone.

In closing

I blog with no thought of gain. My motivation and intention in writing from my heart and soul is to leave a legacy to our beautifully soul-connected granddaughter Jennifer, and two incoming twin granddaughters. And I suppose, it is also my community service and blessing to you all.

An enchanting soul retreat in Sedona Arizona: Journey Into Self

Soul retreat in Sedona, Arizona

At least once in your life, take a vacation to nourish and soothe your soul! That’s what I did, and what this blog post is about… that which I will forever call my “soul retreat.”

When I first got the email from Alania Starhawk that she and Patricia McGivern were planning a “Journey Into Self” retreat in Sedona Arizona, I didn’t know if I could get the time off work, find the extra money to pay for it, or even, what my husband would say (as I’ve never taken a vacation “just for me” before)… But above all else, I KNEW that my SOUL wanted to go!!!

How did I know?

History

I had been to Sedona only for a few hours, 26 years ago with a few girls from my Speech class in college. We had been in Prescott Arizona, not far from Sedona, to put on a play at another campus of my university.

sheila preparing for ERAU play 1990.jpgsheila and girls day out driving during 1990 AZ trip.jpg

Having had some free time one day all those years ago, a couple of us girls decided to drive our rental car from Prescott to Jerome and Sedona.

On that drive, we had stopped at a little old roadside bookstore where I met an precious elder Native American Indian man. I fell in love with the Indian history he began telling me about, and all the books in that store. But because I was with other girls, and we were short on time, I politely told him I’d have to go. However, then I said three little words that have haunted me for years. I told him, “I’ll be back.”

While I never forgot those words, considering them as important as a promise, life got in the way, family vacations, reunions, and work trips, so for many years Sedona had to stay on the back burner. Although, Sedona was always calling me.

Invitation

So, the particular morning I received Alania’s email invitation, I wanted to leap to my feet! My soul resonated with such vibrancy at the very thought that I could travel back to the enchanting land of Sedona… my intentions roared and I knew I had to go–no matter what!

Logistically, it would mean that I would have to get on a plane, perhaps two, because it’s quite a distance from where I live to get to Sedona and the airfare was not included in the retreat fee. And then, there would be all the explaining I would need to do, as no one in my family had ever even heard me talk about taking a vacation on my own. Plus, I’d have to take time off from work, and the date the trip began on was an important calendar date for my family also!

Normally on this particular date, I’d be in New Hampshire visiting my beautiful daughter and wonderful granddaughter for my granddaughter’s birthday. But in a flash I realized that blessedly this year my daughter’s father and his wife were going to visit our girls in New Hampshire. So, MY schedule was FREE! Wow!!! What perfect alignment! I began to become aware that destiny was calling…

And so it was. I kept my promise. I went back to Sedona. Boy, did I go back!!

The drive

miles-of-cactus

Even the drive from Phoenix to Sedona had it share of sights! I was curious about the cacti (plural for cactus) that we were seeing along the highway. I was told that many of these cacti were over one hundred years of age! Because it takes at least one hundred years for one to produce an “arm.” Though I was riding in a car with several other ladies, I managed to grab a few pictures of these intriguing plants.

I must say that I had the opportunity to buy a new camera before going on this trip, but I chose not to because I didn’t want “taking photos” to get in the way of my experiences in Sedona. Lesson learned! I took pictures anyway and they would have been so much better had I bought the iPhone 7 Plus that I’d wanted. Oh well! At least I wasn’t worried at all about dropping my old iPhone down a crevasse!

Hiking

For five days, I hiked, breathed in the amazing cool dry air of Sedona, touched many rocks along a variety of hiking paths, hung out with like-minded ladies for spectacular sunsets, dined in exceptional restaurants, and immersed my soul in a deep and expansive process! My heart seemed to grow larger and open more to the world with each passing day! My “sisters” for the retreat seemed to teach me something every day! While my feet were totally grounded, my head and heart would fly along with the puffiest of clouds in the sky… dancing in the heightened energies I was feeling and “knowing.”

Our journey took us to many of the major energy vortices ~ including Airport Mesa, Boynton Canyon, Buddha Beach, Cathedral Rock, and Dry Creek Canyon. Sedona impressed us all! I hiked up five mountains in five days and the energy was running high to be sure! I only left thinking of perhaps two things I had not done while in Sedona, but I had been part of so much, and had written much more in my journal, and talked with so many of the gals in our group–yes, even on deep subjects–that in no way was I feeling disappointed.

Airport Mesa

The dirt was so red here at Airport Mesa–it took my breath away! I couldn’t quit looking at it, even as I climbed. And this was my first climb, just hours after getting off the plane in Phoenix Arizona!

look-at-the-red-dirt

Our group spread out and some of us sang, played shakers, rattles, and drums. Many of us went our own way for awhile, then regathered up the mountain a little way, for Divine Blessing, and more singing, etc.

The view with the rain in the distance was exhilarating! Sedona even gifted us with our own Sacred Sedona Sisters rainbow!

Sunset seemed to be the very best time that we could have climbed and sat in the glory of Airport Mesa! I would come to learn that every time I took my eyes of the red rocks even for a moment, as the sun would deepen in the sky, the colors of the rocks would mystically change, blazing ever so many new hues and shades!

red-orbs-native-american-spirits-here

Note the red orbs in the picture of the sunset that I happened to grab. Ancestors, ancestors, we are calling! Come, come, come.

The artist in me was perplexed in trying to capture just a small portion of this bewitching magnificence with my mere old silly iPhone! Haha!

As is usual for me, my thoughts turn to our Divine Source… and I thought, this must be akin to what God thinks of us… we’re each so immense and powerful, yet we can only see such a fraction of our extraordinary essence! Ohh, we are but fractals of the light of the Divine–yes?

life-always-finds-a-way

During one of my moments of just “be-ing” I looked down and noticed this small plant growing inexplicably, on its own, in between rocks! I thought, “life always finds a way” and truly, life does! When at times we wonder where a plant like this little guy would get its nourishment from, ah, there it is anyway, just being it, doing it, amazing us. Isn’t it fascinating? How that happens I mean?

This little plant has no seemingly apparent means of life support, yet, here it is anyway! Brilliant! And we get to live on a planet like this! So nurturing, even in the subtle ways when we cannot or choose not to see all the invisible means of support that it gives to us all! Ahh!

Also, as a writer, I see that the word “plant” is contained within the word “planet”… hehe, my mind is dazzled by the way our English words are put together!

Boynton Canyon

climbing-boynton-b

This was the site where I climbed the highest. However, once I got almost to the top, I suddenly realized, whoa there Betsy! What the heck did I think I was doing?!? Uncannily (and Blessed Be) I made it to the top and was totally energized!!

I met several people on my hike also. One man in particular told me to repeat the words to myself, “feet like glue” and that actually did help me, especially on my way back down!

Another gentlemen told me exactly where to walk near the twisted Energy tree, and point my dowsing rods near it for a fascinating experience.

sheila-dowsing-by-energy-tree

I could see the energy whirl one of my dowsing rods a full 360 degrees spin! Over and over again! It was mesmerizing!!

The tree is turned and twisted, supposedly, due to the amount of energy it receives.

I was having so much fun up here! I was certainly “in the moment” experiencing Energy as never before! At one point I remember noticing that I hadn’t had any vertigo during this climb, and I must say that I was shocked to realize that! As I had climbed Airport Mesa the day before, I had gotten near the top and suddenly realized there would be nothing stopping me if I fell, so I sat down and just “enjoyed”–and that’s when I had taken a lot of pictures, sang, and shook the rattle.

It seems to me that when I am caught up in a moment of JOY that I do not even consider any of my so-called “limitations.” Is that true for everyone? If so, then, I say, let’s stay caught up in our joyful moments, yes?

Know this: Joy is our natural state of be-ing.

We’re so drawn to be in JOY!

Joy is why we love hanging out with our children! They show us that in nearly every moment–well, after their immediate needs are taken care of, like food, liquid, warmth, and so on.

the-energy-tree-and-the-hanging-rock-that-i-was-mesmerized-by

Here’s another picture (from my friend Carolyn) of what I guess is the “secret” rock atop Boynton Canyon. It so mesmerized me because of the way it just sort of hung there!

Speaking of being mesmerized, every where you look while hiking the Sedona red rock trails, you can find a way to be in awe of nature! From the way the light dances on the rocks, to where and how the plants grow, to the variety of foliage, and how the air is just filled with a certain sense of peace!

Even when it drizzled the rain there, I noticed the air still felt dry. An odd dichotomy!

Zen Den space

Our little group of fifteen soul sisters went to this place, sort of a little community meeting space primarily made up of one large room, where groups could rent it and meet for yoga, meditation, or the like. We had two sessions here during our five day retreat. Here is a link to Zen Den.

Here, we had time for meditation, conversation, and a guided regression session. While technically speaking, our guided “regression” session is called a past life regression, some may choose to see it as exactly that (if they believe in reincarnation), while others may choose to see it as a reconnection with one’s soul, DNA, ancestral visitation, or in many other ways.

Zen house.JPG

Since, as you know by now about me, if you’ve been reading my posts, I do not limit the Divine (God, Universal intelligence, life force, Energy, All that Is) at all, so I get into, or love to play with and in, anything that brings me into conscious unity with God. We are to live life fully and abundantly and this is just one of the myriad of ways of living that I find appealing and resonating with my spirit and soul.

We had two regressions with Patricia here, inside, and though I will write in another post about my experiences during the sessions, I will tell you, and show you, what I saw when I stepped outside of the Zen house… it knocked my socks off! Hello wizard Merlin!

wizard-in-the-rocks

Just in case you couldn’t see him, here’s a zoom of a close-up!

wizard-in-the-rocks-closeup

And the following is a drawing (by my husband) of a wizard that I thought was appropriate.

wizard drawing by Richard

At lunch, one of my Sedona siStars checked her phone and something quickly flashed (probably an ad), which showed an image of a man dressed as Merlin, or had the name Merlin on it, and before I could ask her to stop (because I hadn’t been snooping, but had only noticed the image for a moment), she had flipped to the next thing. I did ask, and explained how the image caught my eye, but when she tried to go back and see whatever I’d seen, it was gone. Poof!

After I had returned to the hotel that evening and for some days after leaving Sedona, I searched online until I found the man, and it was Terence McKenna:

Zen

This was the tranquil Zen garden labyrinth (I am in the middle) where some of us chose to get our walking meditation in… ahhh!

Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park

Look at the  top of the smaller of the two Stupas. Oh, it looked just like an angel on top of a Christmas tree!

stupa1

It was certainly true for me that once I stepped foot on the land at Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park, my mind quieted down quickly, and a holy reverence lit upon me, much as it had years ago when I would enter a church building. But out in nature, this was the very essence of “church” that I have always known exists, and I’ve hinted about in previous posts (that we do not need buildings in which to “hold church”, but that we have our own body temple for this purpose–no other “things” are required in order to pray, meditate, worship, etc.) and I had quite a knowing of this truth, being in this park.

my-deep-abiding-love-and-sadness-for-all-the-worlds-religionsThe deeply moving “religious” zone I was in, fell on me quite profoundly as I walked three times around each of the Stupas (as it is suggested you do when you visit–there are informative kiosks that explain it). I am also sure that I will continue to write about my thoughts on this in future blog articles. I was very, very moved–and quite unexpectedly too!

To put my experience at the Stupa in the deepest yet most brief way, I was saddened to my soul for anyone who could not find beauty here, could not find the sacred reverence, the divine knowing of this place and what it means to have it here, in America.

stupa-sizeI watched people of many different colors and nationalities come and walk around the Stupa in silent reverence, and I was oh so moved! You can see how large the main Stupa is in comparison to this gentlemen as he reverently walks around it.

One of my new sisters on the trip prostrated herself before the Buddha and I could feel the tears well up in my eyes as I witnessed her devotion. And though this is not my religious practice, I was moved to tears!

It seemed as though I was feeling the tears of many saints and guardians who yearn for us all to understand the transcendent importance of such a place as this!

I felt God’s Spirit move through my body! I felt an immense and abiding sense of wanting to protect this place… so much so that it startled me! I resonated with the reason all military have fought to defend our nation for–the right for our freedoms, especially for our freedom to practice different religions. (It’s probably also why free speech is so important to me too!) We just cannot take any of our freedoms for granted!

Amen. Namaste. OM

Between seeing a lady do Tai Chi upon our arrival here, being blessed and attuned in the water, as well as all wandering around all of the magical cairns people had placed here, Buddha Beach was quite the treasure!

buddha-beach

I wrote a bit in my journal here, sang to the trees, and shook a rattle.

We met a lot of people on our walk here… some of us even got our picture taken with a couple who were traveling the world carrying a penguin statue! (I’m not kidding!)

Dry Canyon

We had our last regression session in the middle of a mandala that we all built, which included our own artwork and words for peace, love, joy, bliss, etc. that we left here:

sheila-in-middle-at-mandala

sheila-with-scarf-and-bindi

And I was gifted a bindi for my third eye, which I embraced wearing. When the sun was overhead, I pulled my scarf over my head as a wrap, not even thinking about “why”– but oh, I was stunned when I saw the photos later! I love Indian food, music, and dance, and now I think  I know why!

Also, going back to my childhood for a moment, my mom would always take a picture of me standing on a big rock at Blackwater Falls WV, so I had to jump up for this fun tribute to her!

Sunset on the Cathedral Rock trail

climbing-cathedral-rock-trail

i-can-see-for-miles-and-miles

You can get a little idea of how rocky of a path we had to climb on the Cathedral Rock trail.

Our group of Sacred Sedona Sisters had a time of song and blessing on this flat area of the trail. I still hear our voices singing the enchanting songs! It was one of the most special times of our journey for me.

my-view-now-feet-over-edgeAs I sat,  probably mid way up the Cathedral Rock trail, I hung my feet over, appreciating the hiking shoes my dad had given me (they still had a bit of West Virginia dirt on the soles too) but now, they had this noble red dirt embedded in them as well. Ohh!! I love these red rocks! If I could live the rest of my life here, I cannot imagine getting tired of this dirt, these rocks, and the majestic glorious vistas!

I am dreaming of a day when I can bring our whole family here, especially my amazing granddaughter, Jennifer. Oh, what bliss that would be!

But, I can hold them dear in my heart as I sit here and look at the world. Because it sure feels as though I am on top of the world!

Saying so long…

Not long after I woke up on the last day in Sedona, I put my moccasin booties and went for a hike up the mountain behind the resort one last time. I wanted to feel the rocks under my feet, pebbles and all, similar to how my grandparents, great grandparents, and other ancestors from my Native American Indian lineage would have walked. Living my grandmother’s quote, “before judging others, walk a mile in the other person’s moccasins.”

Even the view from our resort was breathtaking, all the way around! Had we done nothing else but stay at the resort, I would have had a magnetic time!

the-mesa-that-caught-my-soul

I learned several new natural healing modalities that I continue to practice daily. Plus I met my protector guide, Screamin’ Eagle (thanks to my wonderful roommate, Kim — who I will introduce you to in my next blog post).

Each of the attendees, or rather “Sacred Sedona Sisters”, received an “Attunement to Divine Frequency”, sacred blessings, and regression sessions (read more about that here: Releasing “past” hurts or traumas to heal current ills in the body). We enjoyed, relaxed, and had fun, but oh YES, we can allow our body to heal NOW by releasing stored cellular memories from the past!

I want to soulfully thank Alania Starhawk and Patricia McGivern for brainstorming, planning, and facilitating this aWEsOMe and transformative, yes, life-giving retreat!

We absolutely packed a lot into 5 days!

For me, I loved every moment, every trail, mountain, and vista! We hiked, climbed, shopped, ate, sang, took photos, had deep conversations, sat in a hot tub, and around a fire pit. I’ve never done so much on a vacation before!

Stay tuned. I am sure to be updating this page (especially with the other blog links when I get those written)!

Thank you Sedona!

OM Shanti OM – May the peace that passes all human understanding be yours.

What’s wrong? Are you sick, lacking motivation, or not feeling connected?

logo_cut_new-1Even folks who have lived a full life, people with a family, a job, education, or all the material things they could ever hope to want, at certain times in their life, question the point of it all.

If you’re sick, lacking motivation, or just feeling blah (like no one cares about you or what you’re doing), this author suggests that you check out some new information.

Change your focus for a couple hours today and consider a new perspective, which just might lead you to discover some new information to help you feel better.

Sometimes, you just have to shake things up a bit! We all know that, right?

The Reality of Truth is currently available until August 1, 2016 to watch — FREE!

Many ways of living over the years have called out to us to seek a certain “path”, or “way of life” in order that we may have life here and now and live it more abundantly. And many people are just fine, content and happy with that one way. But, if you’re reading this, my bet is that you’re not satisfied for one or many reasons.

So, if like me, you find even one of the following people interesting, if just reading their name on the following list resonates with you for any reason, then you might very well enjoy, or even LOVE The Reality of Truth.

Now, I love Michelle Rodriguez from Avatar, Machete, and the Fast and Furious movies. And I remembered her from the TV  series, Lost. She’s always been a tough, super hero-like compelling actress. Yet, even if I didn’t get into The Reality of Truth for any other reason–and I love it for many reasons–I’d have enjoyed it just to see Michelle go on this adventure and get to know her in a more close-up, intimate, and genuine way. I feel I know her as a person now, not only as an actress. I cried when she cried. I laughed when she laughed. She talks candidly and openly about her experience–and it’s palpable.

Could a good rest help to ease your troubled mind?

Rest to ease a troubled mind

I write a lot about spiritual things in this blog, but mostly because I understand the profound impact your spiritual understanding has on your mind and overall state of well-being.

Potential solutions

Would you like to stroll on the subjective side of this topic for a few minutes with me while I offer a potential solution to your mental unrest?

Journey into a realm where rest and ease can calm your troubled mind…

Breathe

Being healthy and well (or what most people call ‘wellness’) is not only how one feels physically in their body, but includes the state of one’s mind, or mental health. Mind-body, or holistic health includes things that help us relax (mind and body), release pent up tension, laugh, restore ease, increase our feeling of worthiness and belonging, improve our physical flexibility and stamina, and bring balance back to the body.

Your head is attached to your body, and IF your head is where your mind is (as most believe), your mental state can influence how our body feels. How can traditional western medicine (allopathic medicine) only treat your head, without understanding its relationship to the body? It seems to me, and to many others whom I converse with on the subject, that we need to take time for ourselves and learn ways to ease our mind, beyond the escape of merely sleeping away our concerns.

Conversely, perhaps mania and depression are triggered by inflammation in the body? Or by environmental factors? Side effects from other medicines, substance abuse, food, or alcohol?

Get unstuck

If you’re feeling the need to:

  • Get unstuck from the status quo
  • Learn tips that you can utilize in your day-to-day life to ease your mind
  • Rest and relax in a beautiful and tranquil environment
  • Eat delicious and nutritious organic food
  • Give yourself time and permission to reset your mental state
  • Go from feeling “blah” to brilliant
