A while back I had a conversation with a friend who told me, “Sheila, not everybody thinks the way you do” and I was sort of put off by her saying this. However, a few days later I felt she was paying me a compliment when she offered me that insight.

Not everybody thinks the way you do!

As well, my daughter told me her ex-husband didn’t think the way I did (when I’d told her I thought he was keeping my granddaughter away from me to “hurt me.”) He’s a narcissist. And yes, I realize I am labeling him, yet I strongly dislike labels. But he is a classic narcissist and I am not perfect, so there’s that. She felt it was much more likely he didn’t consider me or my feelings at all because all he thinks about is himself. Again, providing me insight that others do not think like me.

Thirdly, my husband has offered me similar insights during our twenty years together. He has told me often to, “quit trying to figure out what others are thinking”! Apparently, he hears me lament about what others may be thinking that motivates them to do or not do certain things. All actions are first motivated by thought, ergo, I often attempt to discern people’s motives.

I live in my head a lot. I think it makes me a good writer, analyst, and detective. As well, it helped me get ahead in my career and feed/house/clothe my children. But I have had to work on squelching the overthinking.

Has anyone ever told you no one thinks like you?

Let me know in the comments.

As an empath I strive to ease suffering and raise hope. I want to uplift others by practicing what I have learned, till the inner soil with breath—many times, every day—to instill peace and calm. Ahhh…

  1. This is the thing that I am told all too often and at first I took it like what the hell but once I looked inside of myself much like you I took it as a compliment not many people do think like I do and that’s okay that’s what causes the diversity in the world and amazing conversations I have found but I also had to remind myself that people don’t think like me and so I can’t hold expectations for them I’ve actually learned so much from this very statement and I love love what you’ve written here today and shared with us thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰

    1. I am opening myself UP and OUT more and more each day. Our videos are getting seen and liked on Tik Tok too (you must find those!) Wink! Giggle giggle! Love you! We took advice from lady who showed us an apartment to get on Tik Tok and play our music and tell our stories.
I am now reminding myself every time I begin to get frustrated over something that they don’t think like me. But not because I am better or right. Just so I can give myself compassion and grace. And give the other people compassion and grace. Ah! Peace. ❤️🦋🌀🌹

      2. Hi again and I hope your Mother’s Day was sweet and full of love! ❤️
I can understand how you like to open up people, and all I can say is sometimes that can be a difficult thing to do, but, in some instances once you do it’s hard to shut them up! 🤣 🙏

  2. Hi Sheila, yes I can identify with that idea that most people don’t think the way I do! I’ve been told that before and also that I talk a lot, but, that’s because like you I live in my head and do a lot of thinking or analyzing always trying to figure out something; especially people and their motives like you said, how you do that too! Do I over think things? Sure I do at times, but if I do it’s just some expended energy and added worry that wasn’t so necessary, yet isn’t a problem, because I’d prefer to pay that cost if many of the other times I was overthinking it led to a breakthrough or even a revelation that helped me or someone I cared about; which overall is a positive preventative measure, once again that most people aren’t doing, of that I’m quite certain!
I can recall my dad telling me when I was a young fella how when I had a tiff with a family member I tended to want to be alone and go off into my own little corner to be by myself, and that really was truth, which my dad was always great at seeing looking back through the years! But one thing about that observation that I know was special about it was why I did that; and that was to not brood or work up my frustration, but rather to figure out what happened or was going on at the time! So I would be analyzing as best I could to figure out how to proceed and also just to give myself space from a person or issue so things could cool off, which they always did, while I gained some perspective or just chilled out perhaps with some fun distraction like building a model airplane or some other fun creative activity!
Keep that keen and wholesome perspective!
    Thanks!
