It’s May 12th, 2024; Here’s an original slow country song sung by a female singer (pro from Nashville, TN not me). She sings about love expressed through cards and letters. Though the song isn’t about moms or traditional love letters (it’s more about the secret life that some live). But at least it’s about love on this Mother’s Day. Exquisite production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.
Happy Mother’s Day
Here’s the one-hundred-thirty-third new music post for 2024, as I stay true to my consistent approach in sharing one of Richard’s original songs each day this year. This is an older song and when I first heard it years ago, I thought the melody was so pretty. It also reminded me of my mom and the fact that my dad hid things from her (not letters though) for much of their married life. I think many people live this kind of double life. Sad. But I’ve found that even sadness has a purpose–watch the movie Inside Out.
Time with my daughter (and grands)
My daughter and I went to our first art fused glass class together last night (at the art shop where my daughter works, and the place I’d taken our eldest granddaughter when she was about 4 years old to paint ceramics).
This was our one-on-one Mother’s Day celebration. One of the plant spikes I made (of course) included a blue glass spiral! Ha! Perhaps when this class is offered again, or I have the opportunity, I’ll make a treble clef design (I was still recuperating from the stomach bug so it was all I could do to attend and attempt to keep my mind on what I was learning and creating). My daughter’s plant spikes were much prettier than mine! Smile!
Me and my daughter at our first fused art glass class together. 5-11-2024
I’m sooo enjoying living next door to her and I’m waiting for our granddaughters to come over and visit us (and give daughter a break) for a few hours today. I’ve missed so much of their lives. I know I can’t make up for lost time but I’m sure going to enjoy what time we have!

It’s May 11th, 2024; Here’s an original soft rock song that sings about love and loving more. Lovely production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.
Dreams come true
Here’s the one-hundred-thirty-second new music post for 2024, as I work to stay consistent even when life happens (or gets in the way). Ha! I’m feeling better today but my whole stomach/ribs area of my midsection is super sore. But the love of family, being here (right next door) to my daughter, son-in-law, and three beautiful and active granddaughters is taking my mind off of my body pains. And tomorrow is Mother’s Day so we’re celebrating today too! Yes, could I love you more? For me, moving here was one way of saying YES! I love them sooo much!
Watching Coco again
We just finished watching the animated movie, Coco. In that story, it’s all about the love for family that pulls the plot along. We love the beautiful songs in it, the story, and superb graphics. It features a grandmother, mother, and son (and other family members), a tortured past, the wrestling of forgiving and forgetting/remembering, crossing over, and guitar playing. Right up our alley!
Me and the bronze statue of Roy from Winnisquam – one of the things I dreamed of doing (sitting with him on this bench) as soon as we arrived at our new home, and after seeing our family. Thanks to Chaos and Kindness for introducing the world (and all of us) to Roy. The years I followed Justin and Roy’s story (via Facebook live videos) helped me feel closer to my family when we lived in Florida.
Wrapping up this #dreamscometrue post now so I can go say Good Morning to the girls and get ready for my noon Zoom with Dr. Bruce Lipton. Then we’re all going to a pre-Mother’s Day lunch out and later, my daughter and I are taking our first art glass class together!!! Tears of joy as the happiness envelopes me!

It’s May 1st, 2024; Here’s an original country duet song about raising a family. This was one of several songs Richard wrote to honor his mom and dad. I love that a son would put such love and heart into a song for his parents. Lovely mix of voices on this and sweet production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.
Honor our parents and ancestors
Here’s the one-hundred-twenty-second new music post for 2024, as I consistently pursue with dogged determination, to present one original song each day–yes, even when I must schedule them in advance. Ha! And this is a loving tribute to Richard’s parents. We hope you will enjoy it.
We’re off!
We’re off! We’re driving a moving truck to New England (from Florida) this week. So, I’m keeping the articles short and simply sharing the song and an applicable meme (mine or others). Be blessed everyone!

It’s April 28th, 2024; Here’s an original country duet song about music. We’d love to hear a group play this on the Opry! To quote the song, “Play it back perfect, don’t miss a note.” I love the violin in this song and the blend of voices. Indeed, a slick production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.
Don’t miss a note
Here’s the one-hundred-nineteenth new music post for 2024, as I consistently plug our original songs. Songs that my dear husband wrote over 40 years. Some years he wrote many songs (when he lived alone in Bishop, CA) and some years not as much. But collectively, to write over 400 songs? Well, I agree that’s quite an achievement. And all because he’s such an observer of people and life!
A heart full of music
Richard Murrey has a heart full of music, that’s for sure. And this duet is a splendid example of that. He grew up playing guitar and so did his twin brothers. One of the best moments in our lives was getting Richard, Bill, and Tony together (several years ago) to sit around the house and play. I will treasure the memory of that! To me, it was as good as if we had gone to the Opry. A personal concert!

It’s April 20th, 2024; Here’s an original hip-hop rock song as we celebrate the weekend–though it’s all the same for me since I retired. LOL! This song goes out to ALL of you who love the fusion of hip-hop and rock. And I wonder what you’ll think of Richard’s twist on that! Head-buttin’, beer-spewin’, cornbread-eatin’, guitar-pickin’, hip-hop redneck music! Ha!
Fusion of hip hop and rock
Here’s the one-hundred-eleventh new music post for 2024, as I consistently heap original songs onto your head–at least I’m doing so one at a time so as not to overwhelm you! Ha! This is a fun song. It’s got jaw-dropping lyrics and side lyrics and sounds to stir some laughter. And maybe, just maybe, you can enjoy hanging out with rednecks. I guess it is an appropriate song for 4/20 too! Ha!
I’m not too much a fan of rap, but ever since Aerosmith and Run DMC redid Walk This Way, I’ve enjoyed hip-hop and rock. And ever since Kid Rock, I’ve enjoyed the fusion of rock and country. I also love Yanni, who brought back my love for orchestral music. I guess I am simply a fan of fusion.
Family ties
It just so happens that we had breakfast this morning with some cousins I’d never met before. so I’m on a cloud! I am so happy, as meeting my cousin, Rosa Lee, was one of my goals and reasons for moving to Ocala (so we could meet after being friends on Facebook for ten years). And she brought her granddaughter with her too (who has hair like me)! Richard and I so enjoyed meeting them. It really brought up the importance of Family to me and how much alike we are. I mention this too, because Rose Lee gave me some more information on my grandmother (and pictures), and that one of my aunts may have become a nurse after caring for my grandmother after she had a stroke when I was young.
Enjoying the time
I think the older I get the more I love to think about what my grandparents lived through, The Great Depression, living without electricity, living without indoor plumbing, growing their own food, and raising it too (Rosa Lee remembered the rooster my grandparents had and how mean it was). I came home and saw a Facebook post from my daughter about the glass mushroom she made at her art studio and also some broken glass art. I then thought of my mom and how much she loved mosaics. And now, we’re full circle, aren’t we? Everything happens for a reason. And we are all given life to enjoy the time.
Screen capture: “A few things your mom may have not told you: She loves you more than herself. She has watched you while you were sleeping. Every time you are upset, her heart sinks. .You make her life meaningful. She thinks you’re one in a billion. You are the best thing that has ever happened to her.” –QuotesJournal

It’s March 9th, 2024; Here’s a jazz original song for you with sax! It’s all about desire. This song is full of adjectives about the protagonist’s desire. And how they “rock his world.”
One of things we enjoyed so much about having our songs produced in Nashville, TN over the years was being able to hire and incorporate the sweet saxophone sounds from acclaimed horn player, John Heinrich. This original jazz song also had vocals done by our friend Bubba Hudson, and brilliantly mixed by Steven Cooper.
Blue eyes
Here’s the sixty-eighth new music post for 2024, as I consistently present my loving Richard’s original songs daily. He’s sure something! I may not have blond hair (anymore), but I have blue eyes, and so does he. Richard even featured an image of me in the video he crafted (from when we were in Ireland in 2019):
Sweet sax
I could listen to this (with John’s playing) all day. His style and expert skills draw me right into this song and add so much complexity and richness to it. And I’m not a ‘jazz person’ much at all! Ha! But I love and seek variety. I read in another blog this morning, that’s a sign of high intellect. Hmm. Perhaps!
As promised, here are a few photos from our outing yesterday at Silver Springs State Park Campground (whilst spending time with our family–Richard’s sister):
The sun did appear for a few hours, but mostly it was partly sunny. I’m in the black ‘Kindness’ top, my hubby Richard is in the purple ‘Sexasaurus’ t-shirt (sold here), Rose (Richard’s sister is in the purple top and skirt, and her husband Alan is in the green t-shirt. There are a couple of shots of the campground with trees and foliage (one is their spot the other is the campground host spot). The green box is for recycling.
And yes, I had some time yesterday to sit with memories of my dad (who knew so much about trees), who passed/crossed over to the Grand Beyond, five years ago on March 8th. I pondered how we mere humans always seem to mark the time of memorable dates (happy or sad) and why we do such things. I will tell you that I woke up with the words to a song I’ve never cared much for because I didn’t like James Taylor, but it’s a song most of us know–You’ve Got a Friend. When the words, “I always thought that I’d see you again” came to mind, I wept. I think Dad sent me that to help me ease through any remaining remnants of grief. Aww!
Teets or knobs
What kind of tree is this??? Overall it looked like a scrub oak tree, but 90% of it or more was covered in these teets or knobs (nobs?). I did a Google Image Search but still unsure (I think it’s a fungus). Let me know in the comments if you have an idea. Curiosity may have ‘killed the cat’ but it keeps our minds sharp! Ha!
Vloggers we’ve followed the longest
Here’s a list I began curating a while ago of all the vloggers (video bloggers) we’ve subscribed to and followed the longest. I’ll also put together a list (soon) of the newest ones we’re now watching–but this will give you some idea of who we like and gather a variety of information from:

This was our first Thanksgiving in Ocala, Florida (and will probably be our last). Through no fault of anyone other than our upstairs neighbors (it’s more of a structural thing than them–except they work odd hours, coming in late and leaving very early in the mornings), and that the friends we have here aren’t any more social than the ones we left behind in south Florida. Sad to say. Granted, a few were ill and no one can blame them for not wanting to get together, but some didn’t even call or message. And I’m not the type to invite ourselves to someone’s house for Thanksgiving, even friends we’d had Thanksgiving with before.
If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio:
It is what it was
If I sound a little sad or aggravated, I guess I have been. But I’m working on my DE-Program process (Integrating the Spirals) and “letting it go.” Writing this post helps. It is what it was. I know we’re all adjusting to a “new normal.” I just wish people wouldn’t ignore us/or anyone. I don’t think it’s healthy to stay “shut in.” Of course, I am all for doing stuff on my own, Ms. Independent here. But I think all this time during COVID has really punctuated the point of getting together with others. I love my monthly Zoom calls, but hanging out in person–well, there’s so much that could be said for camaraderie.
Who did you celebrate with?
Our little local restaurant (we walk to) was closed for Thanksgiving day, so we ordered our food the day before. And then, I reheated our food on Thanksgiving day. And it was all delicious–more on that and pictures in a few minutes!
Our longtime friend, Nancy, sent us a bag of organic lemons. I call these our Sarah lemons because they grow on a lemon tree I gave Nancy years ago when her daughter, Sarah passed away. And Sarah loved lemons. Nancy was going to drive a couple hours to come visit us before Thanksgiving but I was sick that day, so she mailed these instead. The day before Thanksgiving we walked to our little local restaurant to have a cup of Christmas cheer with our bartender friend, Rob. My mom always used to have a cocktail on Thanksgiving and call it her “Christmas cheer.” So, this was a special pumpkin martini and I thought of her as I enjoyed it.One of my mom’s handkerchiefs, the Avon nativity set (that my mom and I had both collected one each when she sold Avon), a ceramic angel that was a gift, and a glass Christmas plate. I’m also putting a Christmas globe out, with a blue Fenton Art Glass deer, but otherwise, that’s all I’m doing to decorate the apartment for Christmas.I have to glue one of the gifts/hands that broke from one of the wise men. This is a closeup of the Avon ceramic nativity scene. I put it on our bar so I could meditate on it while I wash dishes in the sink. I typically have a Fenton candy dish sitting on mom’s handkerchief in this location.
I mused over some of the things I have from mom and dad, grandparents, and cousins. One gift I wear often is from my first cousin Greg–a garnet string of chip crystals. I’m always so thankful for the gifts from family (I have so few of those kinds of momentos). I love useful gifts or things I can wear to remember my loved ones. How about you? Do you do that too–think of your loved ones when you use or wear things they gave you? To me, that’s the heart of holidays like Thanksgiving.
Alone together
So, I called some family friends who were also alone for Thanksgiving, and enjoyed our phone calls, but Richard and I celebrated Thanksgiving alone this year.
I have a strong feeling that we’ll be up north with family next summer and thus, won’t even be living in Florida this time next year to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends. Oh, well! I’m glad we did it when we did a few years ago and will have to settle on simply being grateful “We did that then.”
We had turkey, stuffing (dressing), a very small amount of bourbon gravy, which was new to us, and green bean casserole, also new to us and very creamy and cheesy. We also had carrots and potatoes and a fantastic yam/sweet potato casserole with little marshmallows on top–I hadn’t had one of those casseroles in years!
We ended our Thanksgiving feast with a slice of chocolate cream pie (as I’ve been doing a lot lately reminiscent of my dad–he always loved a good chocolate cream pie. I found the Edwards brand in the store freezer case and have decided it’s the best for the price for us now).
What “food” holiday do you celebrate?
What similar holiday do you celebrate in your country?
I love Diwali in India. I’ve celebrated it several times with coworkers. It will be one of the things I miss when I retire. Actually, I’ve worked at home for the last 6.5 years, so come to think of it, I haven’t celebrated Diwali in person with anyone for a long time. I love Indian food, so it used to be one of the holidays I always looked forward to when I worked in an office–all that delicious food!
Giving thanks for ALL
I love gifts that keep on giving. Here’s the new crystal bracelet from one of my cousins who I met recently on Facebook–she makes these. I bought one to match for my daughter, and then one each for our three granddaughters in their favorite colors for Christmas. And I’m wearing Color Street polish on my fingernails, which I’ll post about next (my daughter is a Color Street stylist). I’m still juicing these lemons from Sarah’s lemon tree too. I think I will get them all used up before they spoil without even needing to freeze the juice.

Listen, sometimes we don’t have the words. The words just aren’t IN us to express our innermost feelings. And as I drive to the post office to mail my lovely and dear three young granddaughters their copy of Blue Eyes: Ethereal Messages of Connection, I’ve signed and written a little sentence or mantra in each one (Thank Omniscience God) to always find joy. (I’m sooo thankful for getting this book done and for my family).
I’m crying. And I am in a stupor. I’m stupefied. Why am I crying? And then I sit here for a moment. And I realize I can’t put this sadness into words except to say, sit with it. Sit with it, Sheila, and see what you can milk out of this experience. Oh, I wish I could be there! I would love to see your faces when you open the package and Mommy sits you down and says, “Now girls–because the twins are five–these are big books; these are books for you to keep for your whole life from your Grammy; these are books you will probably cherish and adore.” (Speaking about myself in third person) Even though Grammy meditates as a Buddhist now and doesn’t want you to attach or cherish anything–of course she’s attached to you, cherishes and adores you!
We live so far away (emotions). And I ask myself, what’s stopping us from being together? In many cases, it’s because right now it is winter. It’s cold (up north) and sometimes the weather is too bad to travel. So the weather limits humans. Yes, often the weather is limiting. (sniff! emotions!) And that’s okay.
Grammy has always wanted to live in Florida! Grammy prefers the sunshine, the palm trees, and the salty air of Florida. And the older Grammy gets (speaking in the third person), the more I miss a little bit of hill country. So that’s why I’m looking forward to moving to the Ocala area somewhere in the north-central area of Florida where there are hills, but I don’t miss the mountains, not as your mommy (my daughter) did for many years. Your mommy didn’t really like Florida because she missed the mountains, but now you’re in New England. There are mountains and lots of beautiful fall foliage to look at in wonderment. And that’s a beautiful thing.
We hope that unseen viruses and silly government policies and regulations don’t prohibit our visiting. We hope our health stays good too, so we can drive to visit this spring. We love you so much, your grandpa (grampy) and me, all three of you girls! Oh, and mommy to my beautiful daughter. So yes, in the book, beautiful daughter is chapter four. And I do talk about and mention my lovely granddaughters.
So I dedicate this blog post and all my thoughts about missing you yet, being close to you in spirit. I dedicate these thoughts to these words that say eventually did come. I dedicate these words to the loves of my heart. Thank you. Thank you ALL. Much love and many blessings. May these words bring you peace, ease, and comfort, and may you find joy in everything. In ALL ways, always.

As I ponder why some siblings don’t get along or even become estranged from one another, or why mothers and daughters can disagree and seem at odds with one another (all while feeling love for each other), it occurs to me it’s because though each love one another, or say we do, we are half the other parents DNA. And in the case of the mother and daughter, if the mother doesn’t get along with the father of course the same would hold true she would disagree with the daughter who is half the father’s DNA, attitudes, and such. It’s only logical. Siblings aren’t just 50 percent their mother’s DNA and 50 percent their father’s DNA either—each could be 49 percent of one and 51 percent the other, or some other mathematical percentage.
Too many times we get in our Ego when we could take a breath and simply be grateful we have people who love us in our lives!
I love you, but
I love you, but I am my own unique essence. I love you, but I have been programmed and conditioned, however slightly, different than you. I love you, but the lens by which I view life differs from the filter you look through. I love you, but I have different needs than you. I love you, but I got different amounts of our parent’s DNA, flaws, foibles, etc even though we are siblings. I love you, but we each experience life differently each moment, each day!
Healing
I hope this helps anyone estranged from a sibling or a parent and teen who are having trouble communicating. Life is short. Don’t lose sight of what’s important. Nothing matters except the people who love you and whom you love.
Next time your parent or family member challenges you, ask yourself, “Is my ego hurt, or my soul?” I bet it’s your ego. And actually a lot of psychological analysts think ego is an illusion! So, you’re letting an illusion separate you from someone who really loves you but simply sees the world differently than you!
Where’s the love?
My sister, Christina, who lived less than one day in 1963, wouldn’t let me sleep last night until I wrote this article. She visits me in the ethereal and is who I wrote my new book about (which will launch soon).

This is the way I’ll remember my cousin, Josh Wilson. This was to be the last time I saw Josh (August 2017) when I’d went home for a Memorial service for my mom.
Josh outside of our uncles home (that our grandparents built)
I love this picture of my kids (from way back) with our cousin, Josh Wilson:
My son, Matt is on the left, my daughter in the middle, and Josh on the right. Oh, the sweetness of childhood innocence!
Before I left town, the last evening of my visit of August 2017, Josh came up to his brother’s house and Staci snapped a picture:
Greg on the left, his brother Josh in the middle, and me on the right – Aug 2017 at Greg and Susan’s house
Our mothers were sisters. Greg was 6 months younger than me and Josh was 6 weeks younger than my son.
Mom always told me that the day her sister called her to tell her she was pregnant (for Josh) was one of the most shocking phone calls she’d ever received!
You see, I’d just told my mom that I was pregnant (again–for my son), and mom couldn’t believe she was going to be a grandmother again AND an aunt again, all within a matter of a few weeks! (Her sister was over 40 at the time and Josh was to be her 5th child.)
My aunt Alberdia with newborn Josh – July 1982Before we moved to Florida: Alberdia is holding Joshua and my son is crawling, my daughter smiling.June 1983 – Alberdia holding Joshua and my son is going to stand, my daughter smiling.
My aunt Alberdia and my uncle Bob loved being parents again.
In many ways, uncle Bob was a better dad to Josh, even than he’d been to Greg (purely my observation). Children are all different, so it’s hard to say why, and also, as a parent myself I know we grow and change and desire to “do things differently” as time goes on. (I certainly feel I’m a better grandmother than I was a mother–of course, they don’t live with me!)
In those early days, we visited often. We all lived about 20 miles apart, but when we could, we would go to church together and share a meal at Alberdia and Bob’s home after church.
Dad always had a soft spot in his heart for Josh since my dad was close to Josh’s dad, my uncle Bob. And uncle Bob died when Josh was only 7 years of age.
My dad used to take my son and Josh hunting and camping when the boys were young (many times), where my dad grew up near Sutton WV.
I don’t have any pictures from those hunting trips, but I’d say it was probably when Josh was about 7 until his was a teenager. (I’d be guessing at that though.)
Since I moved to Florida when I was 22, my children and Josh only got to see each other when we would go back to WV on vacation (typically centered around weddings, funerals, or in later years, my high school reunions).
Here’s a picture of Josh at his one of his sisters’ wedding shortly after their dad’s passing:
Joshua as ring bearer for his sister’s wedding
My ex-husband and I had driven us from Florida to WV (with my children) to attend the wedding and like most things, my ex spoiled most of the event for me. Ugh! So, I don’t have many pictures from that trip and what I do have are pictures of Josh’s sister and her husband (as one might also expect from a wedding).
Not every trip home allowed us all to see each other either, because of work schedules, and the like (which suck) and people really need to consider—take a day off work or school etc. when you have family in town!
Josh with his nephew
Another trip back home, I got to see Josh for about a minute and meet his new nephew (from the sister whom we’d attended her wedding years before). I was thrilled to meet him and to see the love Josh had for him.
I am also thankful that on one of my later trips back home, my husband of nearly 20 years, Richard, got to meet my aunt Alberdia and Josh. We sat and listened as Josh told us all of the hometown news that had been going on, new companies, additions onto the college that was near to my aunts house, and so forth. He was very industrious and had been in landscaping with his brother-in-law for years. Josh loved being outdoors!
As often happens in life, we had drifted apart… though the love remained. We chatted after Greg’s passing and at one point he had considered moving to Florida. I had always thought he’d become a shaman. He really had a gift with people!
Thus, I never thought I’d be writing this or posting a memorial for Josh, especially a few months after writing one for Greg!!! (Link to my post about Greg.)
It isn’t right!!!
I know Life isn’t fair, but no one deserves to be chased and gunned down while driving away in your car!!!
As I wrote a few days ago, the way in which my cousin was murdered has had me upset and going through the stages of grief for days (even believing as I do and practicing what I preach).
It’s hard to make sense of something so senseless!!!
Every time we learn more of the story, my emotions spin again. Ugh!
All I can do is think about the good times and send love and support to our family.
Tragedy has a way of finding us no matter who we are, how enlightened we are, or where we are. I have put myself in dire straits in years past and experienced close calls (like when my ex-husband fired a gun in my direction)! I understand “wrong place, wrong time.” I understand “mistaken identity.” I know we may never know every nuance surrounding Josh’s murder.
I get sad. I cry. I get mad and angry. I am thankful a suspect was quickly apprehended. But mostly I am bewildered. I will probably always have more questions than answers because only Omniscience God can see ALL perspectives and intentions of the players in this cruel tragedy.
If I can raise my consciousness to see the scene from a higher place, I believe there’s a reason… but at this time, I am a limited human being unable to muster my highest and best. But I will remain open to receive. I am open to accept prayers, healing, love, and peace—even in the midst of the confounding mystery. Life is mysterious–even unfathomable at times (like during this emotionally disturbing time), yet worth living.
It could go without saying, but since someone might be wondering… I refuse to get caught up in the “hate” aspect of this or in the gun debate. People who lose their senses do hateful things. And at the extreme end of that spectrum they hurt people. As the saying goes, “Hurt people, hurt people.” One day I hope to release the anger I feel today. I know I will. But right now, it’s all still too raw.
Josh was shot at 7 times. One gunshot hit him in the bottom part of his heart and another gunshot hit his upper left thigh (passing through his leg). The shooter unloaded his weapon leaning out the passenger window while driving and also driving in the wrong lane.
I send love and hugs to our family who are mourning this senseless tragedy—see links to news articles and video:
