A pier sketch with pencil and oil pastels

My daughter did this sketch a month or so ago at the art studio where she works. I knew as soon as I saw her photos of the progression she took on it, I knew I wanted to sketch it. But with high prioritizing my mobility exercises (at various times throughout my day), prepping food and cooking then performing the subsequent clean-up, working on reformatting the paperback version of my book, doing interviews and Zoom calls to promote it, reading and working through about 6 books, reviewing and posting video book reviews of such, and attending a book club, plus a variety of summertime things going on while the granddaughters are off school, and walking with hubby (sometimes to our local coffee shop for brunch or other times for lunch or an early dinner at another local place)–this blog totally takes a back seat! Whew!

I’m betting at least some of you can relate though and have just as much going on.

Now, here are the sketch progressions:

But I finally broke open the new pack of pencils I bought and erasers, AND I did actually use an eraser on this sketch a few times, so yes, I can see where these are going to help improve all of my future sketches quite a bit! Thank you to my dear fellow blogger and long distance “soulie” friend, Linda Lewis (watercolor sketch artist and weight loss inspiration to me). I think Linda may love this–though I couldn’t figure how to do the water very well either. Linda and I have chatted about how to create a more fluid water look.

My completed version and I reworked some of the grass and rocks too because I noticed that the white helped some of the other colors blend better. –Sheila Murrey

I stopped a few times to check to see if I was enjoying the sketching. While I can’t say I smiled much throughout this, I think it’s because I still see it as another task to get done. And then, also to try and “get right.” But I keep reminding myself that Art can communicate more than words and connects us in my subconscious ways. And THAT makes me happy.

My YouTube Video Shorts

And another thing.

My YouTube Shorts are where I share most of my Time-lapse art videos and my latest mobility exercises, such as passive hangs and deep squats. I also shared seven short videos of the fireworks show we got to see up close and personal the evening of July 4th.

Next, just for Linda, of Creative Artworks: https://creativeartworksblog.com here’s my latest sketch. I am not too happy with it, but since I had not sketched in several days (maybe two weeks?), it’s okay and it counts. I don’t know which I enjoy more, the hanging and squatting or the sketching though! Ha! Linda really has me focused on losing the lard currently. She’s been a prime influence on me since she’s managed to lose her lard in the last two years (and she’s over 60 too)! So, age should NOT be a factor. Linda has proven to me that no matter my age, I CAN do this! Thank you my friend!

Marker and oil pastels sketch. I’ve drawn better trees. (Oh, well.) I’m sure the roots of the tree are too long… and water IS hard. And my deer? I’m not very good at drawing animals, so there’s that. But I wanted to sketch something with deer in memory of my dad. –Sheila Murrey

Today would have been my dad’s 87th birthday. Happy birthday in the Grand Beyond, Papa!!

I don’t always take myself so seriously, but when I do, I hang and squat! Ha! How do you like that? (Smiling!)

Having a bit of fun!

I thought we’d have a bit of fun this morning and I’d share a couple of things to lighten your day. At least, that’s my intention.

This first image of the two axolotls is for my friend, Linda, of Creative Artworks: https://creativeartworksblog.com Can you see them? Hint: The white one loves to hide!

Now, for a laugh, at least I hope you’ll laugh:

Richard and I were sitting together yesterday as I was scrolling and an ad popped up for bras. I started laughing as I began reading the ad copy and he asked why. As I read it to him I thought, “I should record this”! Unfortunately, you missed some of our initial comments and laughter, but here’s how it went:

Bra ad commentary. –Sheila and Richard Murrey
Screen capture of the bra ad copy. And no, I’m not mentioning the name of the company. I also told Richard later, whenever we can, we should use the word, “pendulous” and laugh! Even if no one else knows why! LOL

This is all just to show you that Richard and I don’t always take ourselves so seriously. Ha!
