Do you care where your food items come from? Are you too busy to find out? Or are you like most of us and think if a grocery store sells it, it must be okay to eat–after all, why else do we have an FDA (in the US)? The FDA is a department within the federal government in America that’s supposed to oversee food producers. However, eggs, poultry, and meats are regulated by the USDA–Department of Agriculture.

If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and there’s a few minutes of BONUS info on the audio this time too!):

Where’s the beef?

When my mom (and my cousin, Greg) worked in the butcher shop of a chain grocery store, all I knew about meat was what cut came from what part of the cow and how to properly store and cook it. I never thought about what ranch the beef came from or who owned the cattle company.

While watching an interview featuring Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. the other day, he mentioned that Smithfield Foods was owned by a Chinese company. Does that surprise you?

Does it make any difference at all who (or what country) owns the meat we eat?

Researching Smithfield Foods

Since finding out that one of the food items I buy has genetically modified organisms in it (a particular yogurt that has the lowest salt and sugar content)–which is hard to find, I am now on a mission to learn about where our meat comes from.

Thankfully, we don’t eat beef much anymore (since finding out my husband has high iron in his blood) and I have been buying organic beef, lamb, and bison for many years–and buying organic has been one of the best ways to know we’re eating healthy (sans chemicals and GMOs).

Here’s some screen captures of what I learned:

Smithfield was acquired by China’s top meat producer quote
Question asked in Ecosia search on Smithfield
What other food companies are owned by Chinese interests?
Wikipedia says WH Group is the parent company who owns Smithfield foods
Where’s the beef come from?
Where was Smithfield foods from?

Do you care who owns the companies that package the food you eat?

Maybe it doesn’t matter to you where your food comes from. I think our ‘too busy’ lifestyles have gotten us into this disconnected mess and we’re paying for it with ill health. I admit I’ve been too busy to follow up on every single food item, though I do check most. All I can do now is do better.

What I am known for

Be the best version of who you want to be–because if you’re reading my words your soul is probably beckoning you to align with it and live up to your highest ideals. Not perfect because who is perfect? Most stagnate or ‘get stuck’ while on their way to being whatever they think perfection is. Making progress is enough. Carrying your Karma lightly is enough. Be kind to yourself while living responsibly. Who you ARE affects us ALL. We Are All Connected.

Energy/Omniscience (Omnism) governs ALL. Omniscience knows ALL. Omniscience is always with you. You are never alone.

My online Zoom video course, Integrating the Spirals is more timely now than ever because I know people are suffering. (Let me know if you’re interested in working through the Integrating the Spirals course.)

As an empath I want to help ease suffering and raise our vibration to offer hope. I want to uplift others and expand our collective consciousness. I teach breath work and meditation so we appreciate the value of Detachment. We till our inner soil with our breath to calm the amygdala and institute peace. Meditation is an easy way to Connect us with spirit, higher selves, Omniscience God, and receive non-programmed personal guidance.

  1. An enlightening post. I’ve avoided Smithfield products ever since I can remember not because Smithfield is Chinese-owned, but because their products are without exception poor quality, inferior tastinb,. overpriced, ground to mush and include far too much sodium including nefarious nitrates and nitrites. Now knowing [shame of me for not knowing before] it is a Chinese company I will continue to avoid their products and will voice specific concerns that US grocery marketers should buy only from US-held firms whenever speaking with friends and family and when writing corporate/political persons. I will, of course, do due diligence and thoroughly investigate as already I see that so far as can be determined, Smithfield sources from US producers. Thanks for the info and impetus to look harder into a company I already had doubts about.

    1. Let me know what you find out. Thank you for confirming some things already, like the sourcing. I had quit buying other products years ago, like Con-Agra and Kelloggs, Nestle, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola made stuff, but the way these companies buy, sell, and merger, it is a lot to keep track of for the everyday person. I appreciate your comment!
