After the assembly of a second cube bookcase storage unit, it occurred to me to apply my spiral methodology from, Integrating the Spirals™ to finish the third set. Duh! Had I applied the spiral principle on the first two sets they would have turned out much better—without all the struggle! If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio:

You may be wondering why I would use such a methodology for putting together such a storage center. I didn’t consider it either until I got very tired of struggling with the first one. Mind you, the only reason I bought these was because my daughter had bought some for our eldest granddaughter and my daughter assembled these herself so if I got stuck I knew I could text her for advice. And I loved the look of these when my daughter sent me the pictures of our granddaughters’ room! I felt these would help hubby and I stay organized.

What I learned was to

  • Use a ratchet Phillips screwdriver (a power screwdriver would be best—but don’t over torque the screws)
  • Do one at a time and improve with each
  • Take your time and rest in between cabinets or even between sections of each
  • Don’t beat yourself up mentally for any mistakes
  • Stay mindful and use my integrating methodology
  • When you get to the long side panels, put the pegs in on the cabinet side pre-drilled holes first so you can hold the side panel up against it and adjust the shelves, bottom, and top to fit the holes of the side panel to a tight junction to the cabinet
  • Place the screws in the top and bottom rows first and align the panel (consider the top is row 1 and the next is row down is 2, etc. Put the screws in the order of 1, 8, 2, 7, 3, 6, 4, and 5).
  • Lay it flat to work it out and gave someone help you raise it upright once it is completely assembled. Grab it from the midsection!

I encourage everyone who desires to put these together to ensure they have a ratchet screwdriver or power screwdriver and mallet! With the right tools and knowledge nearly every job is easy.

Here are some pictures in the order of my progress:

The beginning: putting the middle shelves in the midsection first.
I got very tired from using this screwdriver. Also it was too long.
Putting the back in place.
Deciding to lay it down to put the bottom piece on.
Dreading this. Had to get the shelves and right side panel on. Why did I do it this way? Ugh
Just what I was afraid of. I F’d it up. I stripped two of the screws on this first one. Live and learn!
At least the bottom and top fit together well. Maybe the board was a little warped. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it! Ha!
First one is complete.
Second one is complete.
Third one in progress. Yes, I built it standing upright. But I had the ratchet screwdriver at this point and it was all going so much easier!
Third one complete!

By the third one, I got all the corners aligned 100%!
All three bookcases lined up and ready for putting stuff in. Load it from the bottom up! I know that from working with filing cabinets most of my career.
I feel sooo accomplished! I fell asleep congratulating myself for a job well done (though it took me 3 days)!

It is my humble honor to expand our consciousness together and grow THROUGH any and all perceived obstacles to assist us as we GROW our souls.
