Integrating the Spirals: Family first! (Road trip vacation, 45th high school reunion)

I’m back from vacation with more lessons learned!

Sadly, I missed seeing many friends. People I have known most of my life, one since I was 3 years old!

I had a list. A To Do list of everyone I wanted to see, and especially loved ones I wanted my daughter to see again and my granddaughters to meet. (My daughter rarely visits our home state and town either!)

I won’t share my list, suffice to say I had a list of 11 family and close friends I wanted to see over the course of four days. I had reached out to the oldest folks (like my uncle who is nearly 80 and “second mom” who is 85), but the others all use Facebook.

I had posted on Facebook (not only on my personal page, but on the high school reunion group posts too) about when and where we’d be staying (name of the hotel and dates) for TWO MONTHS prior to going on this trip, so that hopefully, friends could do their part and arrange their schedules to have time to visit with us. I sent individual Messenger messages to several, but I am simply not going to feel guilty for not calling or texting everyone. There comes a time when folks need to acknowledge “the road runs both ways.” I spent over $1,000 to make this trip happen, and traveled over 14 hours in a car with three children (ages 13 and 8 year old twins)! I refuse to chase people down! There’s a point when you have to know you did all you could, and I have reached that point.

Thursday

Upon arrival, so that my daughter could sleep after driving all night, I took the girls to the hotel indoor pool. We all got in and I enjoyed the coolness of the water and that it quickly reduced the swelling in my ankles from having ridden in the car over 14 hours. I wore compression socks, but my ankles puffed up anyway. Go figure.

At 63, it’s always something.

Note: I was cold after getting out of the pool but the girls weren’t done, so I wrapped myself in towls and sat down. I just happened to sit under a big air conditioner vent and it was blowing fairly swiftly. That exposure, plus the mold I smelled in the hotel gym from a leaking air conditioner (the carpet was still wet!) may have also contributed to me getting sick. But one can never really know what causes these things.

My daughter and I specifically chose this hotel for its indoor pool and because of its central location to many friends. In particular, it’s near to our dear family friends’ home and just across the river from my high school reunion activities (thinking if nothing else, it would make it easy for people to come see me (as I knew I wouldn’t have a car – my daughter planned to take the girls to see her dad who lived a half hour away).

Friday afternoon

I had the whole afternoon free when my daughter took the girls to visit her dad’s side of the family. My son was still enroute from North Carolina, so I reached out to several friends to see if anyone might want to visit with me.

My “second mom” (what I have called Liz since my mom passed away in 2017), came over to see me and we visited for about an hour in the hotel lobby. I took a short video so I could get a screen capture). While we were visiting, she was using cough drops but I don’t know if she had a bug. She had said she went to the doctor that morning and had to pickup her prescription at a pharmacy near the hotel.

Liz and Sheila

One school friend and her husband stopped to talk with us (we were the first two gals in our class to accept/allow our hair to go gray – at our 30th high school reunion)! Her husband is of German ancestry and they noted Liz’s accent (as she’s German), thus they got a bit of Liz’s immigration story, young adult story (Liz had been a model in Germany). I wish I had audio recorded that! It’s a great story!

When Liz left, I walked her to her car, hugged and kissed her on the cheek.

Friday 6pm
I was to meet my cousin Greg’s widow and one of my oldest friends (and more) at the neighborhood ice cream social. They all wanted to meet Marie and the girls. We didn’t make it there because just as we were headed in that direction, my son showed up at our hotel after driving over 9 hours from North Carolina. Of course, since I hadn’t seen him in 3 years, I put family first! I’m glad I did. (Special note: Matt brought us fresh squash from his garden!)

Susan messaged me to see where we were when she didn’t see us at the social and I invited her to stop by the hotel on her way home. She did! And we all had a great visit in our hotel room til nearly midnight.

Sheila and Susan

As I walked Susan out to her car, sciatica hit me, running down both of my legs! I had prepared for that though, having brought all my creams and lotions for my sore hip! I thought that would be the only potential pitfalls to going on this trip. I was wrong.

Saturday 6pm
Go to reunion dinner. I had prepaid for my ticket to go, but by 3pm I began feeling horrible and had a fever. I called my uncle and he said a prayer for me. Knowing my best friend and her heart-transplanted husband would pick me up and take me to the event, meant I might potentially pass something on to them, plus I was feeling worse by the minute! Thus by 5pm I made the call to stay in bed and not attend the reunion dinner. Yes, of course I was bummed! I had several friends who wanted to visit with me and vice versa. But I knew isolation would be the best at that point.

Spiral thought: Before the prayer, my uncle had asked me what I would take for this discomfort if I were home. N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) immediately came to mind. He had never heard of it. I had a feeling he would go buy some and bring it to me. But here’s what happened. When my daughter had told me she woke up feeling bad the Wednesday morning of the evening we were to leave New Hampshire, I had added 3 NAC capsules to my weekly pill container and put a piece of paper in with them that simply said, NAC! I rarely need this supplement and knew I wouldn’t recognize it later. And then I completely forgot about packing them! Ha! When I woke up Sunday morning I went to take my daily supplements and I noticed the paper in one of the other day’s compartments. I immediately thought “this is an answer to the prayer”! I popped a NAC capsule and immediately began feeling a bit better! Of course, I continued taking what my daughter had brought too, which she generously offered to share, some over-the-counter sinus medication, vitamin C lozenges, etc. but I knew I probably wouldn’t see anyone else on my list at that point.

Sunday

Go to the cemetery and see/take pic of mom and dad’s burial marker:

My parents burial markers. Unfortunately, it costs thousands of dollars to have upright tombstones made these days, so this likely the only markers they will have. And I have accepted that. As dad communicated to me, “Live while you’re living.” I know from their now vantage point, grave markers are of no concern.

I had agreed to go to home church with my uncle and aunt, so I canceled that but agreed we would stop by so they could see my daughter and meet her girls. Turns out, my son followed us there (and beat us there because we stopped at my best friend’s house so she and her husband could meet my granddaughters. My bestie doesn’t take no for an answer. She knew I wouldn’t have missed our reunion event unless it was serious. And they could have had a longer visit with us earlier on Saturday, but God has a way of orchestrating things for the best outcome of ALL. And though it was aggravating to me that I felt like I had to jump through hoops to make the visit happen, I have to accept it unfolded in the best way, and for the best.

While we were at my uncle’s house—I wanted my girls to smell the roses from the rosebush that grandmother had planted over 50-60 years ago; but I had also wanted to show uncle Jim the pictures from the Cole site I had found online (that I had saved on my phone); and I had wanted to ask if he might perform laying on of hands regarding the tinnitus, hip, etc.

The videos of my mom’s memorial with my uncle presiding (and the house that my grandparents built) are still available on my YouTube channel if you want to see:

Part 1 of 3 – My mom’s memorial service (2017)

I had wanted to visit with my cousin Greg’s widow, Susan (to see my dad’s baptism video that Greg had captured). Thankfully, they had attended the baptism in 2017 when I couldn’t make it. (I had already flown up for mom’s memorial and couldn’t do another trip that year). Susan has the video (on Greg’s older phone) but it wasn’t available for me to see. Old phones can be harder to charge, etc.

High on my list had also been to visit my longtime church friend, Cheryl (she’s a university hospital nursing teacher). It’s always tricky trying to visit her because she lives a few hours from my hometown. She had wanted a copy of my holistic health book. Now, I will sign and mail her a copy instead. We missed each other by mere minutes! She had driven in on Saturday to visit her 101 year old grandmother. I was going to go there (because I had known her too, Ginny knew both of my grandparents quite well), but when I started feeling bad, I knew I didn’t want to subject Cheryl’s grandmother to “whatever” I had.

My daughter had a priority to take her girls to visit their nana and papa (my first ex husband). (They have recently moved back to the area). The got to go visit them twice! It also turned out well because my son was able to go too! He hadn’t seen his dad in years (maybe 20 years?) and they had become estranged. So, I continue to consider and recognize this trip was to teach me the importance of “Family first”!

Yes, it’s disappointing when one travels so far and then I wasn’t able to get to either social event where friends we’re going to gather, but as I have said before… I’m seeing the yin and yang ☯️ of it ALL. And even more so I appreciate something my daughter says a lot, “Family first”!

Several friends reached out to me when I missed the reunion dinner, that they heard I was ill and that they hoped I felt better soon. I chatted with each as best I could even in my diminished state.

A few asked me how I thought I got sick and the only four thoughts that came to me (while I was laying in bed so feverish with the chills Saturday night ) was:

  1. Caught it from my daughter (as I sat next to her on the 14 hour drive); she had been coughing and sneezing all the way, but had thought she just had allergies
  2. Caught from friend who had just been in a doctors office (we know medical offices are often good breeding grounds for these bugs)
  3. Getting chilled after swimming, I am also sensitive to chlorine and I had smelled strong chlorine in the pool area
  4. Smelling the mold in the hotel gym

I hope the family I missed will make an effort to see me at some point, as this trip is probably one I won’t make again. Unless I completely change my mind and body, which isn’t outside the realm of possibility. I just don’t know how likely that is to happen.

Yours in consciousness-expansion as we evolve and revolve during our mystical awakening. All while doing-my-egoless-best, to take you on a limitless, spiraling thought ride to better health, through doing more with ease, to help us sustain the JOY in our lives! (With lots of Gratitude throughout.)

Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train in New Hampshire. Link to the full story.

I saw this train years ago while visiting my daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. We didn’t have the time or money to go on it back then. Now, it’s high on my list of things to do since my husband and I have moved to New Hampshire.

I connected with this train because it shares the name Lafayette with a favorite famed hotel across the river from my hometown. (The Lafayette hotel in Marietta, Ohio.)

My daughter and I are planning on taking the family on this restaurant train soon! I’ll take pictures when we go and post them of course.

Meanwhile, we (my husband, daughter, and son-in-law) got to visit one of our (myself and husband’s) favorite restaurants, and I snapped a pic of my husband’s meal. I just ate two sides (a baked potato and lobster mac-n-cheese—don’t get too excited, it was only two bites of lobster), so I didn’t take a picture of it.

Ahi tuna from a favorite restaurant within walking distance of our home. (He already took a bite before I could grab my phone! Ha!)

April 12th – Friends

It’s April 12th, 2024; Here’s an original country song about all different kinds of friends. We’ve sure had plenty of friends throughout our lives, and some are no more. But we’ve sure learned from these friends, either from them directly, or from the relationships we’ve developed between us.

Friends are friends for ever more

Here’s the one-hundred-third new music post for 2024, as I consistently give you an original song with something to think about. This is a smooth song with a lovely little melody that sort of hangs in the air once it’s done. Nothing means more to you than what friends are for.

Friends afar

Packing up to leave our beloved state of Florida, we’ve been blessed to see a few of our friends. One finds out pretty quickly when you don’t have a car, how many friends will (or won’t) take the time to come and visit. I think the following images/memes get to the point:

Meme I posted on Facebook: Support your friend just like you support a celebrity that doesn’t know you exist –Ryan Tripp

Friends make time

Moving to Ocala, Florida – Final check list

Here’s my final check list of To Do’s and how ready and excited we are to move to Ocala, Florida. Even if we don’t like Ocala, I do not plan on ever moving back to south Florida–too hot and too much hurricane stress. Yes, hurricanes can impact all of Florida, as well as Georgia, North and South Carolina and all along the eastern seaboard. Plus, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio:

As we are in the final days before moving, I have the final check list of To Do’s to complete:

  • DONE – Submit change of address to the local USPS
  • DONE – Request our electricity be changed from my name back to condo owners
  • DONE – Disconnected internet service (cable) on 8/21
  • DONE – Return the community clubhouse/pool key (on the Friday before we leave)
  • DONE – Return condo keys back to Realtor managing the unit (following her instructions)

Upon leaving the unit:

  • DONE – Put chairs back where they were when we moved in
  • DONE – Wipe down all counters and tables
  • DONE – Sweep all floors
  • DONE – Take out the trash
  • DONE – Check the laundry pair to ensure I have removed all clothing
  • DONE – Turn out all lights/and ensure fans are off
  • DONE – Turn up AC thermostat to 88
  • DONE – Unplug microwave
  • Took video of the place clean
  • DONE – Have to drop internet equipment at UPS store in Bradenton before leaving town

We have talked about any last things we want to do while in Bradenton, such as places we want to go eat or shop, friends (any who care would need to come and see us), and we think we are good with what all we have done and seen.

There’s our favorite, Poppi’s Restaurant (they have the best fried fish and grits), Cremesh bakery/cafe we only recently discovered, and the European Deli “A Taste of Europe” in Sarasota. I am hopeful we will find good alternatives of these in Ocala.

At some point one simply has to be okay with the “been there, done that” stuff and call it a day. We have offered friends many opportunities to see us and if they couldn’t make time, it is what it is. I will not harbor resentment, but it shows us where we rate in their lives. It’s okay.

I think these are similar to the thoughts one has before dying. a song comes to mind: We may never pass this way again. Seals & Crofts.

Final walk through

  • Ensure I didn’t forget anything
  • Take video of how we’re leaving the unit

Special thanks to Robyn Openshaw who told me of another medical doctor (who is a Health Freedom advocate) we could see in Ocala.

And thanks to my friend, Karen P. for driving from St. Pete to visit us, enjoy a meal out, and for bringing a key lime pie. As well as gifting me with the fresh avocado and mango (I ate today!) and for our walk to my special grandmother Banyan tree:

Integrating the Spirals to ease suffering

My online Zoom video course, Integrating the Spirals is helpful now more than ever because I know people are suffering. (Let me know if you’re interested in the Integrating the Spirals course.)

As an empath I want to help ease suffering and raise hope. I want to uplift others and raise our collective vibrations and consciousness. I teach breath work and meditation so we appreciate the value of Detachment. We till our inner soil with our breath and that offers us peace and calm. Meditation is an easy way to Connect us with spirit, higher selves, Omniscience God, and receive personal guidance.

Be the best version of who you want to be–because if you’re reading my words your soul is probably beckoning you to align with it and live up to your highest ideals. Not perfect because who is perfect? Most stagnate or ‘get stuck’ while on their way to being whatever they think perfection is. Making progress is enough. Carrying your Karma lightly is enough. Be kind to yourself while living responsibly. Who you ARE affects us ALL. We Are All Connected.

Omniscience knows ALL. Omniscience is always with you. You are never alone.

Moving to Ocala, Florida – Update and Prep work

Here’s an update that includes my prep work (list of To Do’s) regarding our impending move to Ocala, Florida. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio:

As mentioned previously, we chose an apartment community 3 to 5 miles from downtown Ocala, so we could live within walking distance to grocery stores and eateries. We were prepared to apply to both our top choices of communities (just in case for any reason one didn’t accept us). Thankfully, we were accepted by the one with the amenities we liked best and in the best location to meet our needs (namely, within the shortest walking distance to the stores, doctors office, banking, and eateries we liked). The application, check in, monthly rental payments and such are all done online too, which I love, because we have had many issues at our current place of rent checks (yes, even paying via Bill Pay) get lost, not cashed, etc. and nothing irritates me more than paying before or on the due date and the people not getting the money for 10 days to two weeks through no fault of ours!

I have our electricity, water/sewer, and internet services all set to turn on for our new apartment soon too (we move 8/21/23), so we will see how it goes. I still need to put in our change of address notice with the post office, but I think by this point in time, I have everything done that needs to be done. I have the U-haul truck and two helpers hired. I will drive the moving truck myself with hubby by my side. I think once we get everything packed into the truck we’ll see how much more we want to buy at the new place in order to keep future moves also to a minimum.

We have packed about 85% of everything and are waiting until the last 3-4 days before moving day to complete the rest. I think of it like packing for a trip or vacation but in reverse. Everything I use daily, will go into my suitcase the day before we get the rental moving truck. I’ll take an Uber or Lyft to the U-haul dealer.

I have also pre-cleaned the current place a lot and will do more of that the last few days so that once all our boxes and totes are out, it won’t take me long to do one final wipe-down and broom or vacuum and call it done. Mind you, this place wasn’t all that clean when we moved in so I will leave it at least the same or better. It’s furnished (I had never rented a furnished apartment before in my life) but they had never moved and cleaned under anything, which has always bothered me. I didn’t know initially until I dropped something at one point and it rolled under the bed. UGH

The owner never steam cleaned the couch or such either so I always had a sheet covering it (they disagreed but I felt there were blood stains on the couch cushions too, so that’s another reason I covered it). Anyway, I know one person’s idea of “clean” can vary drastically from another’s, and so again, it is what it is. I’ll take a video when we leave just to ensure I can prove how we left it should any questions arise.

Summary

  • I can let go (deep breath here) of all low vibes I have had about living in Bradenton (I never wanted to live here but it was cheap rent and available at least for one year) back when we had looked for a place in St. Pete/Gulfport and could not find anything reasonable or available. Some places were only available during part of a year, and lots of small houses, duplexes, or such went on AirBnB, so there’s that.
  • I’m glad our new place won’t have GPS issues (it’s been hard for people to find our current place for deliveries), So many times, drivers have had to text me to find us at this place in town, which I certainly never expected. I guess the city of Bradenton never thought their addressing scheme out very well back in the day. (After having delivery issues when we lived in the woods “off grid” before moving here, that had been one issues I’d never expected to have, living in a city.
  • I’m glad our new place won’t have mail issues (some of our mail went to another near identical address here and thankfully, those folks were nice and brought our mail over to us when it would get delivered to them). Our new apartment community has a mail center where packages are received. And the address is super easy to find for visitors via GPS.
  • I’m looking forward to taking a bath at the new apartment too! The current old iron tub has a rusted out spot and hole in it so I couldn’t take baths here, only showers.
  • I can release negative feelings I have had about no one visiting us in two years (of “friends” (who live here) who we used to know and see a lot but apparently quit caring about us after we moved away (for work back in 2017). So be it.
  • I can look onwards and upwards. Two years here has been more than enough and that last hurricane (Ian), pushed me over the edge as far as dealing with power outages was concerned. Yes, I realize that’s a first world country problem but we did our 17 months living off grid during 2020-2021 and we are sooo over that!
  • I’m looking forward to using new appliances too at the new apartment–everything here is old, hence the cheap rent I suppose.
  • I can focus my energy on making new acquaintances and friends and seeing new sights. As well, we will be two hours closer to northern destinations I want to visit soon! Two hours closer to getting out of the state should we need to.
  • I love the hills and lay of the land in Ocala too.
  • I love the arts community in Ocala also.
  • I love horses. I grew up with horses and worked with an equestrian photographer years ago too, so I am hoping I can do something there related with the equine industry. I am asking the Universe to surprise me!
  • I am also hoping it is more quiet there, though I am sure the trade off will be between the all ages community we will be in versus the 55-plus community we are in now, and also we will have someone living above us. But there’s going to be major road work going on where we are at currently and I didn’t want to be here when it ramps up with milling and paving happening for weeks/months! This condo has poor windows and doors and we can hear everything outside and are close to a four-lane street that will get widened.

I feel Ocala will present us with a lot of adventure, with more natural springs to explore, horses to view or ride (I am looking forward to visiting the World Equestrian Center (WEC), and see how folks of all ages accept our original music in Ocala (as Richard already asked if he could play guitar at the apartment community pool and was told he could), so we shall envision success there!
