The True Silent Night: Rediscovering the Peace of Christmas Eve

Butterflies and Dragonflies

Sometimes it is the little things that matter. Many years ago, I’d went to visit the grave of a lady I’d never met. I was married to her son and had been having a difficult time with him. He’d taken me to her grave several times and it seemed like a place that offered solace. So, without him, I went to visit her burial plot. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and there’s a few minutes of BONUS info on the audio this time too!):

At the grave

While standing in prayer at Carrie’s graveside, a yellow butterfly lit upon my shoulder and seemed to sit for quite a long time. It may have been 5 minutes, but felt a lot longer. In that short span of time, I felt like I was gifted all the secrets of the Universe. It was a powerful time. The experience is something I have written and spoken about several times. I knew something intense and interesting was happening so I didn’t shoo the butterfly away.

I didn’t receive any direct words or thoughts, but an overall sense of knowing. A sense of kinship with nature. I grounding. And I was comforted.

I stood there awhile longer after the butterfly took off, but I felt I had been deeply changed.

I got the sense it wasn’t up to me to “change” that husband–though I damn sure tried for many years, feeling that because he no longer had his mom, I could make up for it and ‘mother him.’ UGH. At any rate, I had to learn that we all progress at differing rates of speed, and yes, sometimes we have to leave people behind (as sad and upsetting as that can be). If they are meant to learn and grow, they can do it with someone else, or on their own.

Should I stay or should I go became my mantra for many years until I finally faced reality and left (just like that butterfly left me).

Spiral thought: As I was getting ready to publish this a memory occurred. When we entered the judges chamber to sign our divorce papers, I looked up and on her wall hung the most amazing collection of butterflies I’d ever seen! (Dry dead preserved butterflies, but I took it as a sign at the time.)

Enter the dragonfly

Years after the experience with the yellow butterfly, one of my young cousins was killed while riding his motorcycle. I got the call about Bradley’s accident while I was at an airport waiting on the second leg of a flight (I traveled for work then and did a LOT of flying).

After Bradley’s death, his mother told me she’d begun seeing dragonflies around their home. Every time she saw one, and then by way of her sharing this with me, every time I saw one–we’d think of Bradley.

Whenever I moved to a different job or town, I’d always look to see if any butterflies or dragonflies were around when I’d go out for a walk. Many times they showed up. It made me feel like I was on the right path–and not alone.

I also begin collecting items with butterflies on them, t-shirts, wall hangings, and more. And when I’d see something with dragonflies, I would send it to Tracy, even if it seemed extravagant (like a dragonfly tea set from Disney). I always ascribed some ‘after life’ meaning to finding these items. I always felt they were coming into my reality for some reason.

Here’s a screen shot of a comment I wrote my friend, Shari, when she’d posted a picture on Facebook of the time a dragonfly, or living barrette, decided to sit atop her head.

I think several things in the following meme are foundational to this post. Everybody I started with can’t come with me to the next level, I have the right to change my mind without explanation (and yes, I still tend to explain a LOT), and struggling does not mean I’m failing. I think I got into a vicious cycle when I left that former husband because I thought I’d failed, or I’d blame him because the marriage failed. Either way, a double-edged sword and not a good way to live. I’m so glad I found meditation and the knowing that growth can happen in the stillness.

What I am known for

Be the best version of who you want to be–because if you’re reading my words your soul is probably beckoning you to align with it and live up to your highest ideals. Not perfect because who is perfect? Most stagnate or ‘get stuck’ while on their way to being whatever they think perfection is. Making progress is enough. Carrying your Karma lightly is enough. Be kind to yourself while living responsibly. Who you ARE affects us ALL. We Are All Connected.

Energy/Omniscience (Omnism) governs ALL. Omniscience knows ALL. Omniscience is always with you. You are never alone.

My online Zoom video course, Integrating the Spirals is more timely now than ever because I know people are suffering. (Let me know if you’re interested in working through the Integrating the Spirals course.)

As an empath I want to help ease suffering and raise our vibration to offer hope. I want to uplift others and expand our collective consciousness. I teach breath work and meditation so we appreciate the value of Detachment. We till our inner soil with our breath to calm the amygdala and institute peace. Meditation is an easy way to Connect us with spirit, higher selves, Omniscience God, and receive non-programmed personal guidance.
