February 18th – Together. Too much?

It’s February 18th, 2024; Here’s an original song that Richard Murrey wrote after he’d retired and I was still going to an office for work each day. As I played this again today, I asked him, are we together too much? I began working from home in 2017 and he got called back to work for a couple of years (2018-2020). So, we had periods where he was home all day without me, and I was home all day without him.

Icky sweet?

Here’s the forty-ninth new music post for 2024, as I practice consistency in the sharing of our original songs–one each day. Is spending too much time together icky sweet?

We’ve agreed that we never get too much together time. And that’s sweet. The sweetest thing! We each work on our own stuff though, so it’s not like we’re holding hands all day. We do both complete each other’s sentences though. And when we’re watching The Why Files, Ancient Aliens, or America Unearthed (and the like), we often go, “Huh!” at the same time–which cracks us up. We often slightly elbow each other in those moments.

Pieces together

As you know though, I love putting pieces together and integrating stuff. For example, I am always taking parts and pieces of information I come across, or that come my way, and looking to see how I can integrate it into whatever I’m doing, or writing about. And sometimes I do have to work at it–other times it comes easy–the whole of it just falls into place. I love it when a plan comes together.

Words of completion (and healing?)

Speaking of pieces and phrases (as in the song when the singer sings, “You complete me.” I often glimpse the wholeness or completeness of a thing (such as a picture, journey, or life) when I read a poem (like the one I reblogged earlier today from Gray Summers). If I never get to Wales, it will be okay, because I now feel I know someone there. It’s almost as if Gray and his wife are living another version of our lives. And as fellow blogger, Debra, of Jaguar Spirit says at the end of her blog posts, “I am another you.” Oh! That’s why I love sitting with the Kaleidoscope. I feel the truth of my soul at these times.

What pieces have you put together? Did the images or words touch you deeply? Did you feel the completion was soul-deep?

I added a couple more favorite songs to my playlist today that I feel run soul-deep for me. Like, if I died today, my family could play all of the songs on my playlist and “get me.”

Oh, I don’t mean to be morbid (Richard tells me he thinks I ponder death too much), but I’ve never been one to fear death (while watching one of our favorite vloggers yesterday–Bald and Bankrupt: https://www.youtube.com/c/baldandbankrupt), the “everyone fears death” subject came up–thus, here I am sitting with that.

February 17th – Let it go and sleep better

It’s February 17th, 2024; Here’s an original pop-rock song for you! Richard wrote this before me, for someone he’d given this gift. When you listen, you’ll understand. As I’ve written in former posts, my husband can sure come up with some unique and quirky lyrics to spin a tale, and Steven Cooper ties it all together with Bubba Hudson doing the singing. Pro mix from Steven’s Nashville, TN music studio.

A pillow that’s ‘udderly’ fantastic

Here’s the forty-eighth new music post for 2024, as I consistently share an original song each day of the year. When you pay for something for a lover and then they leave, taking them with her. I say, “Let it go” often. I said it before the movie Frozen came out and I’ll continue saying it because the act of ‘letting go’ is so freeing! Let’s forgive (ourselves) and let go (of anyone who wants to leave). We’ll sleep better.

When you give a gift, it goes with them

When you give a gift, it goes with them if they leave. Don’t become too attached (to anyone or anything really). It’s only our attachment to anyone or anything that bothers us when it’s gone. Not to be too defeatist, but yeah, the Buddhists have it right about ‘Attachment.’

Remember, a pillow is a lot cheaper than silicone.

February 16th – Throwing it ALL into the wind

It’s February 16th, 2024; This original song is about throwing it ALL into the wind. It’s quite a different sound for us musically, too! If your better half is better off without you or if your passion for your beloved is gone. If your love for a friend is up in the air or you question the friendship. Maybe you feel alone, but wait! You can find your way back again.

Cool piano with a bit of funky wah pedal

Here’s the forty-seventh new music post for 2024, as I consistently share an original song each day of the year. When your lover’s embrace hides a cold steel heart or when you doubt their words, like broken promises–you’ve thrown it all in the wind.

If you don’t think you’ve got a friend

Doubt can kill, or if not kill, can put a stranglehold on any friendship or relationship. Doubt always seems to grow too! If you don’t think you’ve got a friend, you’re probably right. Well, at least it’s a fifty-fifty shot that you’re right.

Sometimes it’s better to just walk away, throw it all in the wind, and be done. But wait! Why not give yourself a chance to approach the situation logically first? Understand that while you’re in ‘fight or flight’ mode, the amygdala in your brain will keep you from thinking rationally.

Try this little process:

  • Give yourself some time to cool down
  • Allow your emotions to calm down (do some EFT / Tapping or other energy psychology if needed–I used to teach EFT and linked to my previous article on it)
  • Make a list (mental or on paper) pros and cons of the friendship (be rational)
  • Check-in with your heart

What does your heart feel about this person? Perhaps giving them another chance is appropriate. But if you’ve already given the person several (or many) opportunities to prove themselves (and the worth of the relationship to you), okay. You have probably reached the end. And often it is better to part as friends, with at least some good feelings, than to wait until the situation becomes unbearable.

February 15th – A song about me!

It’s February 15th, 2024; This original is a song all about me! Haha! Blushing here. Oh, my goodness! Yes, this is one of several songs my husband wrote for me, and strongly hints at my name in the title and chorus. What a follow-up to Valentine’s Day, eh? There’s the expert saxophone of John Heinrich, vocals by our wonderful Bubba Hudson, and a vibrant production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.

A snappy jazzy song

Here’s the forty-sixth new music post for 2024, as we carry on consistently with our one-a-day song share for the year. Let us know what you think about this snappy tune! It’s got a powerful sax riff in the bridge and an uptempo beat for dancing–one of my favorite things to do!

Ooh-la-la, yes!

What is ooh-la-la anyway? Haha! I think it’s nearly inexplicable. Much like how Richard and I met after both of us had nearly given up on love.

Cupid worked up a great romance of nearly twenty years for us though! Yes, this is a love song for sure. Am I lucky or what?

Whether you’re single or in a relationship, we hope you had a lovely Valentine’s Day everyone!

As for our Valentine’s Day, I bought my own chocolates (some small batch chocolates with caramel and sea salt that was at the cashier stand at Publix–which I almost never impulse buy at the checkout) and I had previously ordered but hadn’t eaten yet, freeze-dried strawberries dipped in chocolate from Kroger. For dinner, I fried up some fresh catfish for Richard. I had a few bites to taste it and make sure it was done though. The fish was good, but I’m not a catfish fan. I made a little Indian meal of lamb saag for myself with some naan bread. (We have both really been into the naan bread recently.) So, we had a simple, but lovely day as we both allowed our bodies to heal from the crud that’s been going around. Cough-cough! UGH

Speaking of strawberries, this was us back in 2017 at the big Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Florida. We’d gotten into the concert area early so I got a selfie pic of us with no one behind us. I think this was the last big concert we attended. I wrote yesterday of the Live performances we saw in 2019 when we went to Ireland, England, and Scotland on our Sacred Celtic Journey, but failed to mention that on our last day in Edinburgh, a jazz festival was going on (at the Grass Market where we’d stayed). We thoroughly enjoyed that as well. I must find some of those pictures to share!

February 14th – Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s February 14th, 2024; This original rock song is perfect for Valentine’s Day! It says, “Since we met there’s been electricity. Since we met there’s been chemistry. I can’t stop thinking about you.” The lovers in this song are in synchronistic harmony!

A rock song for lovers

Here’s the forty-fifth new music post for 2024, as we entertain you this Valentine’s Day with an original rock song. This song for lovers is an especially happy tune and aims to get your feet moving! Dance along to the rhythm of it!

Can’t stop thinking about you

If you’ll be my Valentine, I’ll tell the world you are mine.

Oh, the ripple effect of love is strong! Just what we need today too, since I wrote about the negatives of my parent’s dysfunctional relationship yesterday. To be sure, that was just the flip side of all the passion they felt. I often think of their romance in a yin-yang way, because I know they loved each other deeply. Mom would often tell me she “couldn’t live without” my Dad. So, whether it was a co-dependent relationship or not (and in my view it was), I know they experienced deep love. There was just a lot of ‘control’ within it too because they were so magnetically attracted to each other.

Joy is a positive indicator of love

Where manipulation and control are negative indicators of love (or lust), the flip side of that is Joy. I feel joy is a positive expression of love. And the more we can be IN the Joy resonance of life, the better everything gets!

Richard and I at Glendalough, Ireland (July 2019)

When two people deeply love each other there is no need to control. One supports the other in their work and hobbies. They spend time together. They share their hopes and dreams. They comfort and care for each other through thick and thin. They give each other space. They support each other’s soul growth. They even stretch out of their personal comfort zone to go somewhere their love wants to go! Case in point, Richard had not flown in over 20 years (due to a harrowing experience he’d had) and somehow managed his Energy to go with me on a Sacred Celtic Journey in 2019. We went to Ireland, England, and Scotland. And we had the best time! We did some specific things Richard wanted to do too, like the Game of Thrones tour and meeting one of his singers at a pub in Scotland–and I got to dance with a band that played! We also walked one night to another pub to see a Live band perform (even navigating that night through a bit of a scary underground passageway in Edinburgh).

I’m revisiting these posts today and looking back on our photos from that journey to celebrate our Valentine’s Day. Along with listening to our original love songs, of which, Valentine is only one (Richard has written many love songs for me).

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Richard and Sheila in Edinburgh, Scotland (July 2019)

February 13th – He left me where I stood

It’s February 13th, 2024; This mid-tempo country rock asks why she can’t put him out of her mind because he’s the cheatin’ kind. This original song offers steel guitar and melodious guitar riffs. It’s a heartbreak song sung by a female. She says he chases after flames that burn him down. Why does he look to always be rejected?

Country song about cheating

Here’s the forty-fourth new music post for 2024, as I continually share a song a day to entertain and be consistent. This song has our female exploring the cheatin’ kind. It’s a story I know too well.

Why do people cheat?

Sadly, I grew up with a daddy who cheated on my mama. My Mom and Dad loved each other passionately and stayed married for 60 years! But my Dad was a “lady’s man” and my mama was my best friend, even as a child, I was her Personal Confidante (whether that was a good thing or not–many therapists have said that was not a good thing). I think I grew up fast because of Mom always confided in me. I was never raised on a schedule (like my cousins) because Mom would take me out late at night (from the time I can remember) to try to “find dad” or “catch him with another woman.” UGH Mom even sued Dad for divorce and left him once, but she called it off when he begged her to come back. To say I had a chaotic childhood would be putting it mildly.

The ripple effects of my parent’s dysfunctional relationship created upset within our little family, as well as established patterns with me. It took me years to unravel and do my best to understand why I later married the cheatin’ kind–twice! Now, people can cheat in lots of ways, not simply cheating in a sexual way with another person, but also with booze and drugs. Any kind of cheating is not good. It’s betrayal. If you love someone you do not cheat. To me, it’s that simple. If you do not love someone, you’re in lust, not love. Or you want to control another or not want to be alone. Whatever your reasons are, you are not in love if you lie and cheat.

So, why do people cheat? I think there are many reasons. But one of the biggest reasons I feel is because they aren’t happy and fulfilled within themselves. They have a hole inside that they feel only another can fill. They find someone who they think loves them, but then they hold that person up to an impossible standard. They often try to fix that other person and try to control them. That is not love. That is manipulation.

Me (at about five or six years of age) on a rare vacation with my beautiful mom and handsome dad

How love found me again

By the time I had been divorced twice and went through a LOT of individual and group therapy, I developed such a sense of self that I was determined to break this cycle. I would date someone and at the first hint of dishonesty, I would break it off–or they would dump me. I had no qualms. Ending a relationship (or getting dumped), even if I cared for the other person, got easier and easier. And I learned to live quite happily, alone. I found so much joy in traveling (for my work) and my two doggies, that I didn’t want a relationship again.

Me (several years after my second divorce and before I met Richard) at a family reunion with Dad and Mom (2001)

That’s when Richard came into my life. Two friends of mine wouldn’t take no for an answer and had me draft up an online bio and put it out there, but I was really not looking. I made up such a list of requirements for the next man, he almost had to ‘walk on water’ to be a fit for me! Haha! Looking back, it’s no wonder I only had three potential suitors–and that did NOT hurt my feelings! I was going to be super picky and NOT needy! Because I truly didn’t need anyone in my life! My life was full! I was happy and doing well on my own. I only joined the online dating app because those two other gals coerced me and had found love again on that site and I wanted to shut them up.

Thus, Richard was such a surprise. He was definitely a breath of fresh air. But he’s always known if he was ever in the slightest way tempted to be with anyone else, I would tell him, “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out”! And he has always known, I meant it.

Richard and me (about a year after we met)

It’s not that I am bitter. It’s because I am strong. I can live just as happily alone as with him–though I have loved him for more than twenty years. I would grieve if we ever parted, yes. But I would always want the best for us both. And I’m thankful to say, we’ve always been ‘in love’ all these years. We are yin and yang. We understand each other as much, I think, as any two people ever can. We complete each other’s sentences, and he often says out loud whatever I am thinking just seconds before I am going to speak. Before we fall asleep each night we thank God for the day and feel blessed to have each other. We know our relationship is rare. But it is a choice to ‘be in love’ and one each of us makes every day.

February 12th – Turn me loose

It’s February 12th, 2024; This fusion of country rock brings this original song to life with some strong guitar riffs and a mid-tempo beat. It’s a love song of a couple that meets in a grocery store and he sees her shopping for one. Another microwave entree in front of the TV. This is for someone who allows another to wind ’em up. This is for someone who isn’t sure they’ll ever love again. Eventually, we hear him sing “Wind me up to turn me loose to be with you and see what our love can do.”

Country rock song

Here’s the forty-third new music post for 2024, as I continually stay true to sending out a song a day and work on my consistency. This song talks about a couple getting to know each other to see if they might find love. Ice cream can sweeten a conversation. They looked into each others and felt something.

Not everything is as it appears

We enjoyed the Super Bowl football game last night, and we laughed out loud at several of the commercials–the biggest laughs came from the NFL Sunday Ticket commercial where the players flew around like different kinds of birds! What a hoot! And the Wicked commercial–oh my God! I can’t wait to see that movie! I’ve seen the stage play and loved it. I went with my daughter-in-law at the time (she’s passed now, so of course, I thought of her when I saw this ad). And my daughter and I were texting about which ads we liked most and she was super excited about Wicked. The great thing is that we’ll be able to go see that together when it comes out!

Unfortunately, Big Pharma still spoiled the evening a bit for me with a couple of their ads. I don’t want to see those–ever!!! Nor do I understand how Temu could run three big-budget ads. Do they really make that much money on their junk to be able to afford those? And that tagline? Shop like a billionaire? Who are they selling to–idiots? Billionaires buy quality merch, not junk! I thought THAT was outlandish! And while I loved the little snippet of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool trailer, they said we had to go watch the full thing on YouTube or such. I noticed another movie ad did the same thing. Guess those movie studios didn’t want to spring for an ad as long as the Temu commercial! Ha!

It was an exciting game though with both teams ahead for some amount of time and then tied a couple of times to wind up going into overtime. My daughter and I were texting about the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon ad (yes, it was supposed to be J. Lo’s ad, but it turned out more to be about them). And I shed a tear for that ice skating girl and her grandpa in the Kia SUV commercial. That was sooo touching. Oh, and the Bud Lite commercial was much better than last year’s too (About time they figured that out).

Las Vegas

I was happy to see some of the sights around Las Vegas during last night’s Super Bowl game. Last time I was there I saw the Penn & Teller theatre at the Rio where I was attending an ASEA Conference in 2019. I had a blast and was so glad I went. And seeing the game last night brought back good memories of that trip. I’ve been to Vegas three times in my life, all for short trips of two or three days, so I’ve not seen it all by a long shot.

p.s. We talked a lot about our dear friends, Wanda & Jim–Wanda, who passed away (Crossed Over to the Grand Beyond) a few days ago, and her husband, Jim, (who has also passed), while we watched the game last night as they were both HUGE football fans. They used to get so wound up over the games that they wouldn’t watch with anyone, though in later years, Wanda and I used to text each other during the commercials (just like my daughter and I did last night). That made the night very special for me.

Wanda also loved Usher, so though Richard and I would have skipped the halftime show, we watched it for her. I had to ask my daughter who all the performers were he brought out with him, as I only barely recognized Alecia Keys and had no idea of the others. She knew them all except the last guitar girl that came out. Lil John, Will I Am, and Ludacris. We just aren’t into rap much at all. We haven’t even listened to Tom MacDonald (indie rapper) yet, who we only knew of thanks to Roseanne’s podcast.

February 11th – Football song for all the fans!

It’s February 11th, 2024; Time to spike it in the end zone way! We bring you this robust and rich, jazz song full of bluesy swagger to kick off your Super Bowl Sunday! This original song blasts the funky saxophone of John Heinrich, fun vocal stylings of Bubba Hudson, and a hot production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.

Lots of frolicking kick in this song

Here’s the forty-second new music post for 2024, as I consistently bring it with a hot original song for your enjoyment. This is a football man’s song with a flirty spike! Never underestimate songwriter, Richard Murrey! Richard has kept me laughing for more than twenty years, and this is a grand example of how he does it, with limerick-type lyrics, innuendo, and double entendre. I can listen to this song over and over and laugh!

Oh, snap! We’re ready!

No matter which team you’re rooting for, we’re ready to enjoy (IN Joy) the day and watch the spectacle of it ALL! I’m in it for the food and commercials (the one day I can actually watch TV and not have to fret over Big Pharma ads), and look for the creativity in those big-budget ads–I’m looking forward to the Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool trailer! Hehe!

Every time I listen to Touchmedown Time I have a huge smile! ‘Football mens’ that go all the way! LOL As the salmon poaches! Ha! Oh, snap! I’m ready!

Touchmedown Time is on the Dogma CD

Hush yo mouth!

Yeah, this isn’t your grandpa’s kind of football song! Blow that horn, John! Ha! Watch that tight end! Check out that package! Oh, Lawdy! Somebody stop me! Hahaha! Do let us know in the comments what you think about this song!

p.s. Our dear friend, Wanda, who passed away (Crossed Over to the Grand Beyond) a few days ago, was a HUGE football fan. She and her husband were lifelong Gator fans (here in Florida) too! They met at a game decades ago and it was one of their most favorite hobbies, to follow the Florida Gators team. So, of course, I feel compelled to give them a shout-out (all the way to Heaven). Much love to the folks that encouraged us to watch Two and a Half Men, many years ago–a show that brought us all so many laughs!

February 10th – A restaurant song with a twist

It’s February 10th, 2024; This bluesy jazz song really offers a robust sound and vibe from the expert saxophone of John Heinrich. Many thanks to Bubba Hudson on vocals and production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.

There’s so much flavor in this song

Here’s the forty-first new music post for 2024, as I consistently share an original song for your listening pleasure. This is a restaurant song of a different type. Do you expect anything less from songwriter, Richard Murrey? Ha! Eat or be eaten. The top of the food chain is what we all want. This is about a good turn restaurant. Whew! Glad I mostly eat a plant-based diet! (Am I planting good seeds of Karma? Hope so!)

Food chain

I’m all for trying new foods, but I lean to trying different fruits (like Durian) and vegetables (like avocados, which I wouldn’t eat at all before I was in my 40s). In the last five years or so, I’ve taken to frying up parsnips and turnips as a substitute for white potatoes. I love these! And they are a lot less starchy.

We’ve watched some TV show about a guy who will eat anything, and I’m always clenching my eyes shut! Call me squeamish but I don’t want to eat anything alive! Okay, I do like sushi on occasion but limit myself to the fish, no octopus or eel for me!

It does seem more apparent every day that people on the top, the 1%, will eat anything. I don’t want to be gross here, but just sayin’. Life’s full of weirdness. And extravagance. Guess that’s why we prefer to keep our heads down.

February 9th – Be the best you can be song

It’s February 9th, 2024; I’m recalling something my mom always taught me. Don’t start a fight, but finish it (if someone starts a fight with me). And today’s song includes this kind of situation as well as other scenarios.

There’s more where that came from

Here’s the fortieth new music post for 2024, as I consistently offer you one of our original songs. This is a mid-tempo country song that tells of a few different occasions (not just a fight) where we can bring our best to the situation.

When are we at our best?

Perhaps we have to be pressed with our back to the wall before we show ourselves and others our best.

I want to believe when we’re ‘in love’ we offer our best to our love partner. But is this always the case? Or do we fall out of love from time to time, such as when we argue? Or perhaps we only fall in love momentarily–and most of the time forget how much we love the other person, which is what causes us to approach our beloved from not such a loving place? Dr. Bruce Lipton has said that most of our waking time is spent living from the place of the conditioned or programmed past.

If you want to dance with me, be the best you can be.

The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed. — Ernest Hemingway

February 8th – Another ‘take me back’ song

It’s February 8th, 2024; Yes, there seems to be a theme among some of these original songs, right? This song talks about someone who realizes they did wrong but wants their love to return for another try.

Reuniting with a former love

Here’s the thirty-ninth new music post for 2024, as I consistently share one of our original songs. This is a pop rock song that’s a ‘take me back baby’ and ‘give me another chance’ theme. This is another song sung by Bubba Hudson and produced by Steven Cooper of Nashville, TN.

How many chances do you give someone?

Have you rekindled a romantic love relationship? Have you seen people get back together after a relationship ends? How did it work out?

Yes, perhaps when it’s true love, or when the person doesn’t feel strong enough to try again with someone new, one will desire to reunite with a former partner. We all know feelings of love run deep. Love. A physiological phenomenon that ‘Science’ has yet to prove. I wonder if alien creatures love. Haha!

February 7th – A song about a book

It’s February 7th, 2024; We have a song for you today about The Family Bible (The Holy Bible), though if you’re not a reader of the Bible, you may think of whatever scripture you read in your daily spiritual devotions. Is that the book that you treasure? The book where you place your family’s sacred documents?

My husband and I are grieving the loss of a dear friend, Wanda. I feel this is an appropriate song to share and write about today as Wanda was a Christian and had studied the Bible for years. Of course, we too, have studied different translations of the Bible, and for me, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, The Dead Sea Scrolls, Tao Te Ching, and most recently The Bhagavad Gita. I can only speak for myself now, but I believe whatever sacred scripture you refer to has words inside you consider to be Heaven-sent and connect you to your angels and spirit guides.

Reading to feel light

Here’s the thirty-eighth new music post for 2024, as I consistently share one of our original songs. It’s a pop song, with more of a rock tone than country and with a female singer. We’re curious how you’ll hear this song. Does it give you a lighter feeling? Perhaps it ushers an air of nostalgia?

Right side

Have you ever felt that even though time has proven you were on the right side of an issue, it didn’t feel too good? I’ve been on the winning side of a debate and wanted to say, “I told you so” but then realized it didn’t feel good. Perhaps that’s when we followed our Ego instead of an honest search for the truth. Just a thought!

I do feel that if we share similar beliefs, say being open-minded, we can probably have a great conversation even if we say something wrong, it won’t matter. Friends (or even those who soulfully align) can disagree on some subjects but still love each other. That has certainly proved true for my bestie and me (we’ve been best friends since 4th grade)! She’s taught me a lot about unconditional love, faith, trust, and perseverance through pain.

Fun songs in my all-time favorites playlist

If that link doesn’t open the playlist, use this two-step process–click this link:

When that list opens, click on Sheila’s All-Time Favorite Songs playlist. Let me know which of these songs are your favorites or which bands you have, or haven’t heard of before.

I also have a shorter playlist there too called, My Dance Break playlist and it is a list of my favorite Adam Cunningham songs of ours–yes, our originals that we hired Adam to sing for us from Beaird Studios in Nashville, TN.

May we all soar in ’24!

Find our songs on Spotify

It’s funny. Many of our original songs have been on CDBaby and TuneCore for years. Some of our songs are on Spotify at different locations. The key when you’re searching is to look for ‘Richard Murrey’ as the artist, OR ‘Chevy Ford Band.’ Let me know if that’s helpful. Here are a couple Spotify links if this helps:
