It’s April 29th, 2024; Here’s an original rock song about Energy! Would you call this hard rock or metal? Michael from 80smetalman or Gray Summers can tell me. Yes, we all need and use energy and this is Richard’s ode to all that is the energy that sustains us. This is one of my favorite songs! It’s got solid vocals from Bubba Hudson and a hot production mix by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN. 

Deserves a space in movies

Here’s the one-hundred-twentieth new music post for 2024, as I consistently push our original songs out into the ether. Yes, The Fifth Element is a favorite movie and I believe songs like, Energy, certainly deserve a space and place in a film like that. Someone has to be making a movie or show that this song could get plugged into. Right?

AI or will the real Johnny Depp please stand up?

Screen capture: My chat with Johnny Depp (probably not the real one) on Truth Social. He has sent an audio file too, and it was a personalized message. But I am still skeptical since I know AI can produce audio messages in celebrity voices. I would love to chat with the real Johnny Depp though and ask him about music, so on the off chance that this is the real one and he sees this, my apologies!

Spiral thought: I still believe in Connecting and the interconnectedness of ALL even though some connections are fake through AI.

The countdown continues… we move in 1 DAY! I am picking up the rental truck tomorrow morning and then we’ll start loading. Woo-hoo! Life is a journey not a destination (to quote a line from one of my favorite songs)!

  2. Hi Sheila. I’m not great at this genre. As 80smetalman says, the vocal style brings a melodic softer tone than the gritty vocal style of what I believe is hard rock. If you think of the band BABYMETAL (Gimme Chocolate) and the juxtaposition of the girls’ clean vocal style with the metal band backing. There’s also Trash metal too. Then hard rock is more Richard’s song. But, as said, I am not knowledgeable here in this genre. I am more a ‘melodic pop’ rock fan. Suede, Francis Dunnery/It Bites, Ian Hunter, Thin Lizzy, etc. Nice post here Sheila.

    1. Thank you so much, Gray! You always off so much value in your comments. We appreciate it. I have to listen to Gimme Chocolate (I don’t recall it at the moment). Richard is a big Judas Priest fan and I hear you, because I think they are hard rock and the singer screams and is more gritty sounding. I used to listen to Thin Lizzy but I thought they were hard rock (maybe that was just a few songs, like Boys are Back in Town?

      1. Rob Halford from Judas Priest did a live song with BABYMETAL. I always consider Pop Music in a larger genre. Music that belongs with the types of melody sing a long style despite any hard rock edge. Thin Lizzy a rock band? They had amazing melodic style with all their songs. Are U2 or Queen rock bands? I can never really separate a fantastic song with a sing a long melody with specific genres. Some bands are very eclectic with their music catalogues. Cheers Sheila.

      2. Ah, I am beginning to see your point, Gray. I do think U2 and Queen are rock bands. But I loved Queen’s melodies (and blend of vocals though I never knew the recording tricks they used, like recording Freddie multiple times to achieve that). I thought all the guys were harmonizing (when I was a young one). I loved Styx, Rush, and many other hard rock bands though they also could be considered pop bands. I guess I haven’t heard as much Thin Lizzy to know what they are! Ha!
