A review of a new hobby of mine based on the Laidback Gardeners’ post of a thorough guide to succulent care, co-mingled with my desire to build a terrarium. I’d wanted to do this since I was a teenager and I just turned 61! Ha! I’d read the post on succulent care, went to the link embedded in the article and ordered about $50 worth of these lil babies.

Hubby thought I’d lost my mind. Maybe I did.

But for my birthday I wanted to do something I’d dreamed of doing but really never knew anything about–and I’d never known anyone to build a terrarium! I was sooo glad these came with a brief “how to” booklet. And I was thrilled to find I had an empty CBD spray bottle (it’s tiny) that I washed out and use as my spritzer. I also use a dropper and shot glass to water the larger one and some of the ones that I can fit the dropper around (to water the dirt along the edge of their small pots).

I had some china stored that I hadn’t been using and for now, thought these serving trays would be a pretty way to display the succulents. I switch the plates around every other day too, and reverse them, so each plant gets a good amount of sunshine.

The whole fam damily (not a typo)! Including my avocado seeds that are starting to grow outside in pots. Haha!

I don’t have all the fixings for the terrarium yet, but the day after receiving these plants, and you can’t make this stuff up, a friend posted pictures on her Facebook page of terrariums she’d made for Christmas! I messaged her about where to buy the fish bowls, etc. and she directed me to Wal-Mart (go figure, and I never shop there)!

Only one of the succulents has lost one leaf so far. One of the small ones got a little crushed, not sure how though we’ve had some visitors so… though I don’t want to blame anyone.

Here’s a closeup of the big guy. I haven’t found a good way of getting the dirt off his leaves yet. I tried a soft brush but it didn’t help much. I thought the water would eventually take it off, but though it has some since I took this photo, it hasn’t all come off yet. Hmm. Any ideas? I don’t want to damage him. (I have no idea why I am using male pronouns with him either).

Somehow it may sound odd, but it calms my mind when I care for these little plants. I talk to them a bit and do Reiki on them as well. I water them and touch them a tiny bit too. I never would have thought I’d do that, but that’s what’s happening and it sort of grounds me. I guess because I can’t do much outdoor gardening where we live right now, this is filling some sort of void. I’m enjoying them for sure.

I have been so busy with other projects and classes that I am just now sharing this, but I have photos of the growth of these little ones over the last month and will share in a follow-up post soon.

For now, keep pointing towards the sun and drinking your water! Wink!

Align with your soul and then, blend. That’s what I say.

Be open to receiving many blessings and always is my prayer for you every moment.

  1. I am indeed like one of these little plants. I need time with the Son (“not a typo”) and plenty of the Living Water (John 4:7-14). And when the water is plentiful, I need to store some away, because in dry times I may need to draw on it to keep me going. 😉
