It ALL comes down to Layers Levels Doses Degrees

A lot of something can be a poison; a little, a medicine. In the physical, our eyes are limited and we see through the veil darkly. And fractals. Always uncovering the fractals to reveal many layers and play with the patterns that emerge.

To listen instead of read, play this (you’ll get a surprise if you do, I sing a line from a song you may recognize that inspired this):

A Sunday meditation (examining thoughts)

Alcohol. Used to make tinctures, tonics, and medicine, or to cook with, can be good. But to an alcoholic that same small amount can trigger a binge. People have died from drinking too much alcohol. Thus, it is a lethal substance, yet legal (in most places in the USA).

Water. Too little can kill; too much can kill. Air carries tiny droplets of water we call, Humidity.

Air. Breathwork is beautiful. Hyperventilation can cause someone to pass out. Humans can only go so many minutes without air though. Our physical reality literally depends on a mixture of invisible chemicals we call, Air.

Dirt. I remember a story about a Russian woman who lived to a long age by eating dirt. We need a little dirt, I recall hearing as a child–for the minerals. When we die, we are buried beneath four to six feet of dirt. When we buried my parents the cemetery owner told me the “six feet under” thing was a fallacy. They typically only dig the hole down into the earth about four feet.

Minerals. A little mercury? Too much is certain poison. A little dab will do you (maybe?) of this earth element that is a combination found in the environment of cinnabar and metacinnabar. But at some amount, mercury is toxic. Who was the first person to discover this? What suffering did that person experience?

Driving. When drivers follow the rules, traffic seems orderly. Remember leisurely Sunday drives? I do. But recently I chose to give up driving because it stresses me out. Or perhaps, I ALLOW crazy drivers to stress ME out? Even when I practice Reiki and turn my spiritual Reiki light on, the hassle of driving was something I didn’t feel I needed anymore–plus the financial costs of buying, maintaining, fueling, and insuring a car when I only went short distances once a week.

What stresses you out, physically or chemically that you can choose to “let go of” in order to live freer?

I left my home state at 22 years of age because I couldn’t breathe there. Physically, the area I was born and raised in was called, The Chemical Valley. And I was diagnosed and treated with asthma from the time I was six years of age. When I was about eight years old we visited Florida, due to a death of a close family friend, and I found I could BREATHE free and clear for the first time in my life. And I loved the beach and palm trees. I told my dad, “I want to live in Florida”! And my wonderful Dad helped make that a reality for me, though it took many years. Mom only moved because she had to. Mom loved our home state.

We Are ALL Connected and the decisions of others can and do influence, push, or pull us to the degree we ALLOW.

Finding Truth

Have you examined something so intricately that while on the surface looked uninteresting or untrue, but then upon digging further you found hidden truths?

Perhaps finding truth simply means examining the levels of life and layers more closely. I think most people don’t want to work that hard. They don’t want to keep digging to uncover the truth because it might mean they’ll have to change something about themselves or how they live life.

Why do myths persist?

There must be at least some truth to the “old wives’ tales,” no?

We can study life in a matter of degrees; too hot, too cold and too much or little information. ALL of life comes down (can be explained) by working through the layers, levels, doses, and degrees.

The unexamined life is not worth living, right?

Enough

I just saw a short amount of a movie that my husband had on. I had been in the other room working and when I walked through a bit of the dialogue caught my attention. What it amounted to was this idea of the law being close enough to right, like the law isn’t necessarily going to find the truth in a trial? So a verdict, whether it’s for the person or against the person, the perpetrator is only ever going to get close enough to the truth and that struck me because recently I’ve listened to Sheryl Crow’s song Strong Enough, and I guess the word enough to is somewhat triggering. We’ll say, I’m sick and tired—enough is enough, right? So I just had that word enough kind of stuck in my brain. And when I walked through the living room and heard that bit of dialogue about the law, just trying to get close enough. You know, I thought that rings true.

Hand stand strength

And so I told my husband I said, I want to see that movie. I want to but he was almost done with it. It was near the end, which is why I’m not going to tell you the name of it because I don’t want to give it away. But it had an older actor in it that I really liked too. I said, you know, maybe it wasn’t a movie I would have been drawn to for any other reason. But I said now that I’ve heard that bit of dialogue. I’m curious about it. So curious I think I want to go back and watch it. And I think he watched it without me because he didn’t think I’d be interested. This happens a lot in our household.

So this idea–does this intrigue you? I mean, it intrigues me that, like Sheryl Crow questioned would she ever find a man that would be strong enough to be able to handle her as a strong woman. No, she’s a very strong woman. She has an incredible work ethic she has if you’ve not seen it, there’s a documentary now out about Sheryl Crow and her life and of course since my husband and I are musicians (my husband more than me, but you know). I’ve sung all my life. I’ve been interested in music all my life, and certainly interested in helping him during the 20 years we’ve been together and known each other. So we often watch music documentaries.

Spiral thought: I love that song, Tough Enough.

Walls

When you’re a strong individual, and I’ve known many in my life, men and women. And I find it difficult to work for those types of people, because they are so driven. They’re typically an entrepreneur or business head, a chief among the workers. It’s difficult to work for those kinds of people.

So I got it immediately when Sheryl sang that song. Are you strong enough to be my man, even Stevie Nicks did a version with her because I can imagine Stevie Nicks is that kind of person as well? They are very driven and tend to be bipolar types too. They’re, very up–very high. They’re very low. Temperamental is another word I would use to describe those types of people. Judgmental and typically have such (strong boundaries), you don’t have to talk to them about drawing boundaries because they got walls. They don’t have boundaries. They have walls and they’re not going to let anyone infringe upon them. To the point of probably having issues with authority. I’ll just say it. And it’s probably why they’re like counterculture-ish, too.

Strong-willed

But anyway, so that again, I come back to the idea of enough, what is enough for you, you know, and greed comes into play here too. Like when you’re talking about money or investments, retirement strategies, and all of that. What is enough? I’ve never like put a dollar figure on what enough is for me.

I’ve been with men who are too strong for me, both ex-husbands, probably because the first one wasn’t driven enough but very strong-willed and controlling in the second one was bipolar and an addict and definitely controlling and definitely would fly off the handle if (to use an analogy often used in the recovery) the tea kettles on the wrong burner on the stove he would be upset about it and a huge fight would ensue. So I mean, he would just pick something to be upset about, and a huge fight would begin. Because of course, back then my mindset was always seeking the truth. I didn’t want any bullshit excuses or that kind of thing.

What’s your “enough”?

Boy, this one took a different direction than I had planned when I started talking about all this. Suffice to say I’m just curious what your “enough” is. If you were to say, I need more XYZ in my life; I need a spouse or a relationship, or I need a different spouse. Or, I’m so happy to be alone, but I don’t have enough XYZ. Right? I don’t have enough friends, or enough good friends solid, true friends. Friends that won’t spaz out on you. If you say no to an event that’s another story. And what is enough for your retirement your nest egg, what’s enough income for where you work right now? Are you satisfied with that?

Who’s strong-willed in your circle?

Do you have strong personality types in your circle of influence? And or are you the strong one? And do you tend to push people away because they don’t measure up to your ideals of work ethic or honesty or punctual attendance or attending or calling you enough? That kind of thing? Right? So just think about that and let me know in the comments. I’m always really glad to hear from those of you who take the time to read my blog articles, especially if you do read the whole thing.

Lifestyle and sexual LABELS

Why should we care about anyone’s lifestyle choices?

Why should you care about whether my husband and I have sex or not? Or why should we care who sleeps with who? (Consent implied.)

Why are other people’s personal lifestyle choices any of our business? Why do we judge?

I get that you may care about my well-being because:

I am a human;

I’m a woman, mom, and grandmother;

I am kind;

I am an empath;

I am sensitive.

And that’s all well and good.

I care about you too! Because We Are All Connected.

We are each a bright shining fractal of Ever-Living, LIMITLESS Source Energy! Creation never ceases!

I am love-and-in my spirit and heart: I love unconditionally–that means without conditions, such as: I don’t care how much money you have or don’t have. I don’t care what ancestry you have, what skin tone, what ailments, what religion-or not, and certainly not what gender or sexual orientation you are-think you are or want to be!

Underneath the outer layer of our skin, we are all pink! Our blood is blue until exposed to oxygen and then, it’s red!

I think we care about each other because we are human. We are ALL human beings.

Why are other people’s personal lifestyle choices any of our business? Why do we judge?

Sex life – must it be out in the open?

There, I said it.

Where are my BISEXUAL friends?

Men, women, non-binaries?

Are you willing to speak up?

And why is it important to authentically speak our truth?

I don’t want to exclude ANYONE. I want to be known for Inclusivity.

Because We Are ALL Connected. Because I believe each of us matter. I believe each of our voices matter. ❤️🦋🌀〰️

And, yes, I want you to yell FIRE in a theater, IF it’s on freaking FIRE!

Speaking your truth is healing!

Family secrets

For many years of my life my mother didn’t trust my dad. She loved him dearly, but he had committed infidelities. She trusted me and told me when I was young of his indescretions. Probably not the best thing to do, but my mother was very close to me. For years, she called me her miracle child, her angel. And I don’t think she ever meant to turn me against my dad, but she needed someone she could trust and so, she confided in me.

Many years later, after her passing, my adult son, found pages and pages of her diary. And many of the things he read were disturbing.

He’d not heard all of the “bad” stories about my dad before and he was getting the uncut version from mom’s writing.

Since my son was very close to my dad, these revelations from the pages of mom’s diary threw my son into a tailspin, literally! (In fact, he had an accident one night after learning all that and it nearly killed him!)

In one letter my mom even accused my dad of “running around with men.”

I had seen a similar note she had written too, and she had used the word, “camp.” Since they did call their northern home “the camp” and since we all went camping, I didn’t think much of it, until I mentioned it to a gay friend. He asked me, “don’t you know why men use the word, “camp”? And I didn’t—though I had heard some references to certain movies being “camp,” like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was pretty gay.

Anyway, I will never know if my mom’s suspicions were founded on anything true or not, other than I know my dad was a lady’s man. And my whole point here is to ponder why I should care anyway.

When a friend of mine posted the following one day on Facebook, it brought up all these memories and I started taking down some notes on the subject:

Post from a friend

Jan 31, 2019 S.S. a friend of mine posted the following on Facebook:

Who are my BISEXUAL friends out there?!

Men, women, non-binaries?

Are you willing to speak up?

I’ve been reflecting on the invisibility of our kind… LOL. It’s funny, but not funny. Sometimes it’s really damaging or just plain frustrating.

Are we now willing to admit it to it?

When maybe it’s been safer not to.

It’s been a long road for me to talk about it publicly. But then, how do we find and know each other?

For support, for connection, for community… It’s a unique and often lonely path seeking to be understood by our families, our culture, even our friends… even WITHIN Pride community.

Can we find better ways to be included?

To support one another. To be seen and heard.

How does being bisexual affect our relationships? Our choices? Our mental health?

How do we self-determine or craft our personal narrative outside the lines of “moderate” culture? How do we get better at articulating our truths in this world?… Thoughts?

Love you ALL for your courage to live authentically! ❤❤❤ #BeProudOfWhoYouAre #RadicalAuthenticity

(As a disclaimer, bisexual is just the term I identify with most strongly. Of course, this is meant to be inclusive of those who consider themselves pansexual, omnisexual and heteroflexible. 😊)

Jan 31, 2019 S.S. posted on Facebook

I humbly applaud my friend for her transparency to share. I felt the courage and conviction of her words. Yet, I sat on several drafts of THIS post for YEARS.

No labels

I am all for NO LABELS!

I could care less what people do (or with whom) in the privacy of their homes, cars, RVs, motel rooms, tents, bathrooms, etc. and I don’t even mind public reasonable shows of affection (it doesn’t have to be vulgar—yes I know I am still judging). And between consenting adults, please. (My mind cannot abide with people taking advantage of children—see my previous post about that.)

Yes, I accept all for who they are. (But I don’t have to live with them.) I have had way too many experiences on different levels than to judge—more than I just did.

We were given a brain and free will though. We do NOT have to remain in abusive situations!

My adult kids and I have talked about this issue a ton of times, and I love our open communications about it all. (We have talked more since my son found mom’s diary pages.)

Neither of my kids judge others either, and as a parent, that’s something I am exceedingly happy about. (Because I feel it’s the one thing I did right as a parent)! 😉🥰❤️

But secrets can still be disturbing when they are revealed.

Putting all this out here, on my public blog? Well, it sort of feels like I am in that dream where you go to school naked!

It is far easier for me to tell you what Heaven (what I call the Grand Beyond) looks like than talk about sex here.

Isn’t that weird?

Are you ready to bare your soul? Free your soul?

Mom, why did you bite your fingernails?

Mom, why did you bite your fingernails?

For as long as I can remember my mom bit her nails. And I always wondered why. She used to tell me it was “just a habit.”

My mother was a woman of strong faith, having been raised in a devoutly Christian home. She was also a deep thinker, earnest student, and hard worker. Mom’s parents never argued in front of their children either. So, what caused my mom to feel inferior (which can be a cause for such types of habits)?

As an aside: I picked up the habit from my mom and bit my nails for over 20 years. I had low self esteem as a teen, and often thought I had an inferiority complex!

Asking the question

Now, in my fifties, one morning (three years after my mom’s death), I sat in meditation and silently asked, “Mom, why did you bite your nails?”

The answer: “It was a way of hiding.”

And I got an image of how one hides a smile behind a hand, and when a man twists his mustache hair. I never had the thought before that one can hide behind their hand while biting one’s fingernails.

Hmmm, hiding? Hiding from what? I quickly retorted in thought.

Almost as soon as the first answer came, the second came. Hiding her soul.

How does one hide their soul?

Then, I was on a quest.

Why and how do we hide our soul? And is this a fight with our inner-being?

Are we reserved in behavior because we are afraid to let our innermost thoughts out?

Do we feel we will be judged?

Why would my mom have felt she would be judged? As especially in her youth, when presumably her nail biting started, she would have had no reason to fear judgment.

But, my mom was painfully shy. Always preferring to stay in the background. My mom preferred solitude to group gatherings—unless the gathering was in church (but even there, she didn’t like the spotlight).

Do we question our power?

One of the only times I saw my mom speak publicly, was when the church congregation was asked to share an individual testimony (of God showed up or intervened in their life).

I would listen to my mom’s personal testimony with awe, each and every time. And I had often wished my dad could have been there, at the prayer meeting, to hear mom’s words. Mom spoke with a gentle tone, but at the same time, a commanding authority. To me, this meant mom was speaking from a profound knowing. From a place of truth.

Are we afraid we can’t live up to the expectation of our soul?

As I searched the Internet on the subject of our soul, I found a series of quotes by author, Parker J. Palm. One of his quotes that caught my attention follows:

Parker J. Palm quote

As soon as I read Parkers quote, I realized he had also touched on the soul phrase given to me in the early 2000s that set me on my Awakening journey. The phrase, which became my mantra, We Are All Connected.

In summary

So far, the way I commune with my soul, and share what I find, (that aligns with the lessons I have learned by sitting with these questions), is the way I speak and share about the mantra, We Are All Connected. We Are Not Alone. And that we are more powerful than we can imagine.

Community means never losing the awareness that We Are All Connected.

Whether we feel less than, insecure, are shy, fearful, or that we may not express our truth in a clear way, we CAN speak and share from our soul, from our innermost truth. We simply need a courageous push or willingness to do so.

Perhaps we are old souls. But that is a question for another meditation. OM

About me

I have a passion for WORDS and Connecting people. In particular, I love speaking and writing about spiritual and consciousness raising topics, holistic wellness and simple healthy living. I am empathic, intuitive, compassionate, and kind, with a keen and unified wisdom about life.

I’m an Amazon bestselling author of two co-authored books: “Transform Your Life Book 2 Inspirational Stories and Expert Advice” and “Energy of Receiving”, available on Amazon. Plus, I’ve written a health book (in the making for 13 years), Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life, that’s available here.

Observations about the author

Conversations surrounding emotional balance, moral ambiguities, and deep spiritual truths (such as We Are All Connected, and Put Your Hands Together When You Pray), are what Sheila is most passionate about. She feels a profound empathic Connection with people and what they’re going through by merely sharing her own truth, by speaking freely about her personal struggles and the challenges she continues to overcome. Sheila strives to ease lonelines, help those exiting toxic relationships, and to remind us all that we are stronger than we think we are, and that Everything Resolves to Gratitude in the end.

Rewriting my 1978 poem

My 1978 poem, “Me.”

Now, that I’ve broken free from the drama of my youth;

Having learned what it means to heal and become whole;

And written, spoken and sang many times about all of that;

Having traveled through many of the states I’d dreamed of;

I’ve found myself, and continued to be:

Steeped in history;

Fascinated by my ancestry;

Serene near the ocean;

Entranced by magical trees;

Engaged with mystical rocks;

And mesmerized by waterfalls;

Raising children at the World’s Most Famous Beach, and lastly at the Jersey shore;

Enjoying the beach sand in summer,

The endless sway of the palm trees,

More than watching the games people play;

I’ve lived in the middle of the USA in the icy winter and visited snowy New England,

To usher in new technology and witness twin granddaughters birth;

I haven’t always been true to myself,

but I’ve experienced magnificence growth in ALL.

I’ve found excitement, romance, pain, and peace;

I’ve discovered that I’ve always been me, in ALL ways—whether happy or sad;

And I am thankful.

I am content.

I was me all along.

And I put all of me into my children, the good, the bad, and the beautiful;

My soul hasn’t changed much, but my mind and heart has expanded;

Widening my perception;

Deepening my compassion;

I’ve enhanced my understanding of so many things;

And calibrated back to balance;

To continue to bloom where I am planted.

Me – 42 years later.
