For your consideration, read and understand the following report:
Typically, I attempt to keep a positive attitude, but I tell you, it’s getting tougher every day!
My second mom, a wonderful lady who lived across the street from my parents and me from the time I was three years old, called me the other day to ensure I wasn’t worried if I didn’t hear from her for a few days because her computer had to go into the shop. She had one of those dreaded ransom ware or other tech scam things target her PC and she didn’t know if or how much damage it might have done. She also went to her bank right away to close and change her checking account.
This is hard for folks in their golden years!
When scammers target and prey on elder people, it creates a ripple effect that can cause mental and physical harm, as well as bleed victims bank accounts dry! It makes me so angry I could scream!
It also makes me wish I had never worked in Tech, though I suppose it is good that I did too, as it’s given me a certain spidey sense about how to avoid these scams for ourselves.
Be careful what you click on
I’m glad our U.S. government (Thank you, Pam Bondi!) is trying to go after scammers, but it’s best if we are all proactive and be careful what links we click on, especially if some screen pops up on your computer that looks fishy.
If a countdown timer appears on your screen with directions to click a button or link, immediately shutdown your computer (that’s called doing a cold reboot) and unplug it. You may have to do this twice, if after restarting your computer, the scam message pops up again. Better to take your computer to a repair center than risk your data getting compromised or stolen.
Here’s an example:

Lastly, watch the movie, Beekeeper or any of the good videos on YouTube regarding this topic. Here’s one to get you started:
