Why We Fear Death: A Philosophical Exploration
Integrating the Spirals: Happy Memorial Day!
Our son-in-law decided he wanted to do a Memorial Day cook out outside and have his family over (well, at least those of us who live in New Hampshire that is). So, he mowed the backyard, got out the girls’ bicycles, filled their pools, cleaned the grill, setup the outdoor table with overhead umbrella, chairs, etc. He began early this morning. My daughter cleaned the top of the table and brought out all the paper plates, utensils, and such. SIL’s mom and step-dad came over and brought chips, salsa, and huge fancy cupcakes.
SIL made cheeseburgers, hotdogs (I brought out a bowl of chili for those of us who wanted that on our dogs), and we enjoyed the day out in the backyard watching planes fly overhead and listen to motorcycles beginning to run through town, as we have a ‘Bike Week’ here beginning on June 13th.
After we ate, we exchanged stories about the kids, me telling on my daughter (just a bit), and SIL’s mom telling stories about her now adult children. But then she told us a story that surprised me–and ultimately made my day.
We all had a blast! We talked about upcoming summer plans and places around New England we want to go see.
Along with it being Memorial Day, when we remember those who fought and died for our Freedom, I also wished my son a happy 43rd birthday. He lives in North Carolina and thus, wasn’t here in person, but I sure hope he’s enjoying his special day.
Near Death Experiences
SIL’s mom told us of a time when she’d been in a motorcycle accident and watched everything happen, but from OUTSIDE of her body! She said all the sounds muffled and there was only PEACE! She didn’t feel any pain at all, and though she’d been wearing short shorts, and I was waiting to hear her say that her legs had road rash, she said when she came back into her body that she was sitting upright on the edge of the highway–without a scratch, bruise or anything! Her husband then said, without missing a beat, “When it’s your time to go…” and I’ve always believed that too!
Her husband, a Veteran, also relayed a story about a time when he found himself near death too and that he’d never been afraid to die. Same here. I’ve never been afraid of death. I said that may have worked against me sometimes in my life though because it made me fearless. Nonetheless, we’re all still here!
Perhaps Memorial Day was the best day to share those kinds of stories.
Yours in expanding, revolving, doing-my-egoless-best, limitless, spiraling consciousness,
To our better health, ease, and sustaining lives of JOY! (With lots of Gratitude throughout.)
