Our summer outings, and couple conversations about the book

I’m going to be sharing much lighter things in upcoming days. I think. Maybe. Well, we shall see. I know life’s too short to continue to pound away at issues that seemingly never change. Like wars and rumors of wars. Pestilence and disease. Oh, the drama of humanity! It makes me weary. So, here’s a few snaps of some of our recent FUN! How’s that for turning the mirror ball around? Or twisting the kaleidoscope to reveal a new design?

We joined the family at a little quaint family fun amusement park in New Hampshire on Sunday called, Story Land. It was really geared more for the under 8 age group, but they had several adult rides too, like a steel coaster that I squeezed myself into and hit my knee on and got gut punch at the end. Ugh. But overall, it was a fun ride and smooth. Then, they have a wooden roller coaster that was my favorite and a bit easier to fit into and get into and out of. The gut punch at the end wasn’t nearly as bad as the bar that came across the body was larger/wider. Whew! Neither of these went upside down. I cannot do upside down, nor spin around anymore. I didn’t even do the fairly slow tea cup ride.

Daughter and one of the twins in one “cup” and son-in-law and the other twin and eldest granddaughter in another “cup.” These “cups” would spin around, as well as travel in a spiral 8 type of circle, weaving in with the other wheel of “cups” in a threaded type fashion. As someone enthralled with integration, you can imagine how thrilled I was to witness this ride. I took photos and videos from outside of the ride. Later, they told me they had no control of how fast the “cups” would spin, so I probably made the wise choice to abstain from riding. –Sheila Murrey at Story Land, NH.

I loved the old timey carousel though and the horses actually rocked! They were handmade many years ago in Germany and shipped over to the USA! Wow! So, there was a bit of history at Story Land, which I really appreciated. We had some “fair” type food (and unfortunately whatever I ate, a schnitzel type sausage dog, didn’t agree with me and gave me tummy pain), but after a bit of a rest on a grassy, shady hill–I was okay to go on with the day. I took loads of pictures of the granddaughters, but I’m not allowed to share them publicly. Still I enjoyed taking those photos and our family and close friends can enjoy those for years to come. I loved the scenery at the park. It isn’t every park that comes with mountains as a backdrop and a tunnel to walk through to cross the highway! I would like it if Story Land would include something about mining gemstones or such. They do have a large aquarium and our day ticket included entrance into that, so we’re planning on going there on another day. We were all too tuckered out to go to the aquarium on Sunday.

The carousel photo — daughter, son-in-law, and I sat on the bench behind a row of horses. I wasn’t about to try to get on a horse! LOL Later in the day, walking up the hill to the area of the coasters and water park took what energy I had left in me. I as happy to sit in the shade at the water park while everyone enjoyed the tube type water slides. –Sheila Murrey at Story Land, NH.

We walked sooo much at Story Land on Sunday that my calves were sore on Monday. It’s taken me a couple of days to recover from a bit of a sunburn too. But the good news is I got right back into my mobility exercises on Monday though, which is unusual for me (typically if I break a daily habit it takes some time for me to pick it up again). So, I’m thrilled to have broken THAT pattern! And I had a Facebook Live conversation on Monday and an early morning Zoom group call today too! So, I’m right back in the saddle (so to speak) for marketing my book, and the radio show, etc.)

Here are a few pictures of the lake in Maine where we camped recently too. Again, I was either walking/swinging at the swings with the girls or swimming, and didn’t have my phone with me. I made a conscious effort to “unplug” while we were at the campground.

We enjoyed a view of the lake from our rustic cabin and the girls (and all of us really), enjoyed the campfires we had on the nights it didn’t rain. And yes, we had s’mores on evening. They were a big hit! –Sheila Murrey
I walked a few feet closer to the lake to grab a better photo. –Sheila Murrey

My friend, Linda, of Creative Artworks: https://creativeartworksblog.com has suggested I get some pencils and erasure to use while sketching, and I finally got out to a different store the other day and found some! Thus, perhaps my skills will improve?!? Ha! We’ll see.

I looked for a watercolor set of paints but no luck, this time. The pencils and erasures I picked up for cheap. No idea how well they will work, yet! –Sheila Murrey

Here’s a link to the Facebook Live I did the other day with Lori Phillips of The Be Awesome Network. You don’t need to have a Facebook account to view it, but do let me know if that’s not the case: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thebeawesomenetwork/permalink/1898555040825659/

This morning’s Zoom call was with a Unity church business group and it was recorded, but I don’t know if they make those things public or not. It was very well received and I had several questions about it too! Yay! If they share the recording out publicly, I’ll share the link next time. If not, then it is what it is. I wish I had personally recorded the audio though, as it was one of my best explanations I’ve given yet of my book. I supposed I keep getting better at explaining what’s in the 600+ pages! Ha!

My initial experience with Med Matrix

I thought I’d give you a little information I learned both while preparing for my recent experience with a new medical facility, as well as during the office visit.

This is my Med Matrix journey. One of the RNs assigned to me (and in charge of the lab) sent me the following before my initial visit:

I am reaching out so you know exactly what to expect at your upcoming Lab Draw and Body Scan appointment and how to prepare to get the most accurate baseline results possible.

What to expect at your appointment:

  1. Comprehensive blood draw. This is your baseline testing.
  2. InBody body composition scan. This is your body composition baseline.
  3. Review of your body scan results with our team. We will explain what the numbers mean and what we will track over time.
  4. Scheduling your provider consultation so your provider can review your labs and meet with you to discuss your full results and next steps.

Important reminder about this visit

Important reminder about this visit This appointment is to establish your baseline and complete your testing. You will NOT be seeing the provider at this visit. Your provider will review your results in advance of your appointment, so your first appointment is focused, personalized, and high value.

How to prepare for your blood draw

Medication/prescriptions are allowed (KEEP TAKING THESE)

Three days before your appointment

Please STOP any supplements containing Biotin (B7) for an accurate thyroid reading. It can be found by itself, in protein powders, energy drinks, etc

Eight hours before your appointment

Please fast for eight hours prior to your appointment. Water only, please. We provide light snacks at the clinic after your lab draw, if you’d like.

Try to avoid strenuous exercise the morning of the blood draw as it can affect results.

Now, knowing me, you know I had to Google why I wasn’t supposed to take Biotin. I also shared these findings on my Facebook page because this was news to me!

I was also instructed to drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of the morning of my appointment. This is because good hydration supports sample quality and often makes the blood draw easier.

Overall, I had an excellent experience during the office visit. Here’s what I noted, and I also wrote a Google review for Med Matrix.

My daughter drove my husband and me 2.5 hours each way to a new medical place in Maine where they took my blood and had me stand on a state-of/the/art machine that gave me a bunch of feedback. The nurse tried to explain what it all meant, but most went over my head—though she simplified as much as she could and wrote down the main takeaways she really wanted to make sure I could start right away.

It will be a few weeks before I speak with the doctor and get a complete rundown on what I need to do to improve my health. It was quite the process. I got some good news though. My arms are near equal in muscle mass. Same with my legs. They say if people are uneven from one side to the other they are more at risk of falling.

And I need to lose 87 pounds. It’s a lot, but my friend Linda has inspired me for sure! I already lost one inch around my waist in the last 4 weeks, so I know eating more protein and doing the hangs and squats have helped!

Summer Daze conference and pre/post discussions were all great! And so was our vacation!

I’m behind on posting and replying to comments here, my apologies! We were busy preparing for and then taking a much needed vacation to a gorgeous lake in Maine! Just home now, I saw a note to myself that I meant to share the following:

I wasn’t going to read this blog post from a fellow author and UK friend Michael (80s Metalman) re: The World Cup at: https://peacefulrampage.wordpress.com/2026/06/14/world-cup-thoughts/ because I don’t watch sports, but I am so glad I read it!

I loved Michael’s points about leaving politics out of sports AND about sportsmanship!! People definitely deserve to play sports, music, have discussions and discourse about science, spirituality, health, etc. with respect and kindness and put political ideologies aside!

As for our lake vacation in Maine, yes, we all had a great time! We loved swimming in the cool water and the opportunity to watch our granddaughters (the twins are 9) fuss over snails their dad dug up from the lake sand. We had breakfast pizza one morning from the campground store, and did a LOT of walking. We had a big dinner out one evening too. I had brought filet mignon steaks and our son-in-law grilled them for all of us adults while the girls chowed down on hamburgers and hot dogs. (They don’t like steak, so no worries.) Thus we enjoyed several cookouts complete with homemade s’mores! Everyone at the campground (we all stayed in a cabin) were so friendly too!

The most memorable moment was when I happened to be only a foot away from one of the twins when she got scared while swimming and I “rescued” her–she really wasn’t in danger though. I got to hold her for several minutes and console her and tell her about how my mom taught me how to float on my back when I was about her age. Every child should know how to float! It could save many lives! She was so scared and I told her panic is what gets people in trouble. I explained water can feel scary but it’s also very relaxing if one will allow it. I totally understood her fear but hoped my calm reassurance would help ease her fear. She didn’t want to let me out of her site the rest of that day–and THAT was precious.

Dragon Dreamers Conference

The Dragon Dreamers Summer Daze all-day Saturday conference was fantastic! I gave the keynote presentation to set the theme for the day of Interconnectedness (and spoke about my new book, We Are All Connected: The How and The Why). I know a few people didn’t want to pay full price to hear me speak, though it was well worth it. Now, you can watch the replay for $10 Canadian. So this time, your procrastination will save you money! Ha! How’s that for a deal?

I had a great conference experience on June 13th and think you might have liked it. I have been invited on another podcast, July 8th and am now conversing with others from Ireland and the UK. It’s starting to get very exciting!!
