Integrating the Spirals: Fall update on my plants, making Halloween art, and the house

I’m often too wordy. So, I’ll keep this short and simply give you some visual updates on what’s changed around the house. We live in the apartment attached to the back of the house, so my plants only get the afternoon sun. And the side of the house that gets the most wind is the side that shows the most wear (yes, it needs painted or siding put on it).

The house

The side that gets beat on by weather the most. The sun porch gets the worst of it. There’s some wood that needs replaced under the windows. The window to the far left is in our apartment (and it’s behind the head of my bed).
This is the worst of the wood that needs replaced.
Close up of peeling paint. It’s been ten years since it has been painted. My son-in-law would like to fix the wood and paint it so he doesn’t lose the architectural details, but my daughter would like to put siding on the house so they don’t have to paint it again.
This is the back side of the house, which is our apartment. Thankfully, we have this back door and deck because we use it a lot. I’d like to clean up the landscaping around the deck and have more lavender and such growing there, but I am simply not that fit to be out there digging up weeds, cleaning out what’s under the deck, placing pavers or rocks, etc. I can envision it, but will need someone else to do the manual labor.

My plants

These are all the herbs I repotted. This is how they looked on their last day outside (Oct. 8th, 2025). I’ll compare them to this picture in the spring when I bring them back outside after the winter is done. I have three pots of basil, three of parsley, two of oregano, and one of dill. I don’t expect the dill to do much over the winter, but the little yellow flowers are supposed to turn into seeds I can replant in the spring. We’ll see!
These are the plants that will stay outside all winter. Basil, Lavender, Peppermint, and oregano. I will figure out some better stands next spring to make this look prettier. But the plastic tub and lids were “what I had” when we moved in and I spent my money on new pots instead of plant stands, etc.
The big plant is actually five bell pepper plants that I started from seed in July. Yes, I started them too late in the season, so I didn’t expect they’d even do this good. They got to the flowering stage a couple. of weeks before it got cold. I expect by November it will be done. But we’ll see!

My spa room

I got all the plants repotted and moved indoors (by the window) last week. The door to the left goes into Richard’s music room. The silver tent is my Relax sauna. I love it! It’s the best thing I’ve bought for this room and my health! I moved all of my medicinal tinctures and supplements to the bookshelves too, so anytime I need a boost or am feeling unwell, I have everything I need right next to the sauna. After I get out of the sauna I can rest by laying down on the red light pad with its nine PEMF settings.
I moved my Therasage 7-modality heating pad upstairs to the lounge chair too, because I got us something for Christmas (it’s already here but I haven’t opened the box yet) that we’ll use downstairs (and it will provide us with MORE red light therapy)!

Two clay ghosts I made for Halloween

This was my first time working from a block of clay. And I had to flatten it out first, and that took more time than I’d thought it would. And a bit more shoulder and arm strength. But I got it done. After rolling the clay out, I wrapped it around two cone shaped paper forms to get it into the basic ghost shape:

flattening out the clay. We worked on the back of an art canvas to keep the table clean. And we used dowel rods to ensure we got the clay as thin as possible.
My two ghosts. This was how I left them at the studio before the first kiln firing.

I took some pictures of some of the other class attendees’ clay creations too!

Someone did a neat job on this jack-o-lantern and witch hat.
Clay ghost and pumpkins. They got three projects out of that one block of clay!
I really like this persons pumpkin! I never thought about adding anything to my ghosts.
This person added a hat to her ghost and did some cutouts on it too! This is going to look really cute when they finish it and set the little battery operated tea light candle under it!
And I loved this clay witch hat! Wow! Cute jack-o-lantern too, that they made a patch of grass or something underneath it to sit on.
Got the ghosts from the kiln and went back to the studio to paint them with glaze. I chose two different colors of glaze, a white and light gray for shading. We’ll see how they turn out. I’ll come back and update this post with a couple pictures after they come out of the kiln again.

I hope everyone’s ready for All Hallow’s Eve in a couple of weeks! And I hope everyone has fun and enjoys the spooky time. I’m looking forward to the annual pumpkin festival here!

Integrating the Spirals

I’m encouraging those “over 60” to open to lifelong learning (observe and gently question their pre-conceived beliefs, aka ‘Programming’), become more aware of their thoughts and emotions, consistently move their bodies (too many are stuck in their heads and physically unhealthy), become strong, and resilient in spirit, soul, mind, body. And to question EVERYTHING!

What’s left of the succulents and update on the avocado trees

Unfortunately, I wasn’t as successful with the succulents as the Laidback Gardener was with his–see his post as all of mine have now died, save for two. I have one in the terrarium inside and the other outside on the lanai with the avocado seeds, which are now small trees. They are going to their new homes in a couple of weeks.

I learned a bit about succulents and perhaps that they don’t like me, and it’s okay. I always have my photos and the memories of trying to make them grow. I enjoyed them through the holidays and they were my gift to myself.

I am not sure what happened to the succulents but one by one they just withered and died. I don’t know if I didn’t repot them correctly, overwatered, or misted too much. But I decided not to buy anymore. I will keep the two that I have and we’ll see how they do.

We’re moving this summer anyway, and I don’t want to have to move a bunch of plants.

Here’s a picture of the succulent outside:

The terrarium pic of one succulent (and no, I do not even know what it’s name is):

I dropped one of my rose quartz crystals the other day, so I added a couple pieces of it to the terrarium too. The moss was brown right off the start, so the only green in there is the succulent.

And these are the avocado trees I grew from seeds:

One of the avocado trees has dropped some leaves and I hope it makes it. These are promised to two different friends. I have a couple of dirt only pots that a few succulents were in. I might start a few lemon seeds but then I’m done.

Align with your soul and then, blend. That’s what I say.

Be open to receiving many blessings and always is my prayer for you every moment.

Oh my succulents 2! An update.

A review of a new hobby of mine based on the Laidback Gardeners’ post of a thorough guide to succulent care, that I guess I didn’t read thoroughly enough because three of my new lil babes didn’t make it. Ugh. I know. Sad!

I believe what I did wrong was that I’d been spritzing each succulent every day using a tiny spray bottle yet the directions said, do NOT spray the succulents! OOPS! I guess no amount of sun or me doing Reiki on these little ones were going to help combat my overwatering them. Darn.

Thankfully though, the survivors are tough! They are actually growing!! I’m so excited! And I was finally able to find a big glass canister too, so I can make the terrarium tomorrow. I still need to go find rocks and mesh, etc. to ensure I have the groundwork correct inside the jar before I put the new soil in and then transplant the succulents into it. I watched a great YouTube video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lg4tzkHgVo I just hope to find everything I need at a local fish store.

Here’s a recent picture of the succulents and I’ll post again once I get the terrarium going.

And yes, I finally got all the dirt off the big guys’ leaves too.

For now, keep pointing towards the sun and drinking your water! Wink!

Oh my succulents!

A review of a new hobby of mine based on the Laidback Gardeners’ post of a thorough guide to succulent care, co-mingled with my desire to build a terrarium. I’d wanted to do this since I was a teenager and I just turned 61! Ha! I’d read the post on succulent care, went to the link embedded in the article and ordered about $50 worth of these lil babies.

Hubby thought I’d lost my mind. Maybe I did.

But for my birthday I wanted to do something I’d dreamed of doing but really never knew anything about–and I’d never known anyone to build a terrarium! I was sooo glad these came with a brief “how to” booklet. And I was thrilled to find I had an empty CBD spray bottle (it’s tiny) that I washed out and use as my spritzer. I also use a dropper and shot glass to water the larger one and some of the ones that I can fit the dropper around (to water the dirt along the edge of their small pots).

I had some china stored that I hadn’t been using and for now, thought these serving trays would be a pretty way to display the succulents. I switch the plates around every other day too, and reverse them, so each plant gets a good amount of sunshine.

Group B

The whole fam damily (not a typo)! Including my avocado seeds that are starting to grow outside in pots. Haha!

I don’t have all the fixings for the terrarium yet, but the day after receiving these plants, and you can’t make this stuff up, a friend posted pictures on her Facebook page of terrariums she’d made for Christmas! I messaged her about where to buy the fish bowls, etc. and she directed me to Wal-Mart (go figure, and I never shop there)!

Only one of the succulents has lost one leaf so far. One of the small ones got a little crushed, not sure how though we’ve had some visitors so… though I don’t want to blame anyone.

Here’s a closeup of the big guy. I haven’t found a good way of getting the dirt off his leaves yet. I tried a soft brush but it didn’t help much. I thought the water would eventually take it off, but though it has some since I took this photo, it hasn’t all come off yet. Hmm. Any ideas? I don’t want to damage him. (I have no idea why I am using male pronouns with him either).

Somehow it may sound odd, but it calms my mind when I care for these little plants. I talk to them a bit and do Reiki on them as well. I water them and touch them a tiny bit too. I never would have thought I’d do that, but that’s what’s happening and it sort of grounds me. I guess because I can’t do much outdoor gardening where we live right now, this is filling some sort of void. I’m enjoying them for sure.

I have been so busy with other projects and classes that I am just now sharing this, but I have photos of the growth of these little ones over the last month and will share in a follow-up post soon.

For now, keep pointing towards the sun and drinking your water! Wink!
