May 13th – Dysfunctional magnet (relationship woes and lessons learned)

It’s May 13th, 2024; Here’s an original uptempo rock country fusion song about dysfunctional relationships so many of us have experienced. This is one of my favorite songs of ours as Richard and I used to sing/perform it (with a gender change and without the spoken part at the end). I sing it with a twang if you can imagine. Perhaps I’ll get the opportunity to sing it again out somewhere. Open mic or such. I thoroughly feel the female version rocks ’cause I’ve “been there, done that”! Ha! For me, this is such a healing song! If you’ve experienced relationship woes, give it a listen. This version of the song offers the funky swagger from Bubba Hudson on vocals, as well as a rockin’ production mix thanks to Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.

Hope your Mother’s Day was good!

Here’s the one-hundred-thirty-fourth new music post for 2024, as I continue to walk my consistent path and highlight one of our unique original songs each day this year. This song digs into the difficulties one can experience in relationships, where dysfunction is involved. I’ve “been there, done that,” and it’s not pretty. Either an empath is attracted to a narcissist, or there are addiction/co-dependent issues or such.

Mother’s Day is such a mixed bag of emotions for me.

Mixed bag

I read a book years ago after my first divorce called Givers and Takers. I found a lot of truth in the pages of that book. That and many other self-help, transformational books, prayer, group counseling, one-on-one counseling, 12-step programs for families et cetera, helped me pull myself up and out of the mindset, which led me to experience ‘bad’ relationships. Sometimes, as was the case with the second husband, I did tell my friend “No” many times the day she’d invited me to go boating with her (the day I met him). She was trying to set me up with her ex! I didn’t want any part of that. I’d only been divorced less than a year and knew with every fiber of my being that I wasn’t ready for another relationship. I had a solid job, a beautiful 3-bedroom duplex unit with a garage near my children’s school, and my children were doing great in school. I stood up for myself, but I wasn’t strong enough. I still let others overpower my will. My ‘friend’ (she’s passed on now, but even before she died, we’d severed our friendship) wouldn’t take my multiple “No” answers–she had to have things her way. And the rest became an ugly chapter in the life of my children and myself. My children and I learned a lot the hard way from that ill-fated relationship–but each Mother’s Day, I re-live a bit of that in my mind to clear and release the guilt I carry.

Great response from fellow blogger, John Neff in response to my question of why we tend to focus on our missteps/mistakes over our successes in life.

If you’re going through hell

There’s a quote I saw on a billboard once (while traveling for work from Missouri to Florida), and it said, “If you’re going through hell, keep on going.” Later I found it attributed to Winston Churchill. And I’ve also heard it in a song. I love that quote because that’s exactly what I did, though it was painful. I kept on going with that ugly second marriage, even trying one more time after we divorced–I moved to another state and even gave up a good job to ‘try again’ with him. I’d thought since he’d moved from his home state of Florida to Texas, changed friends, been sober for a few years (supposedly), and we’d been divorced and apart for 4 years, that it might work again. I was sure WRONG!

I saw some warning signs (that I probably shouldn’t be back with him) as soon as he’d arrived to move my son and me. My daughter would have no part of him (she’s so strong!) and moved herself back to Florida, which broke my heart. I was proud of her but couldn’t see things through her eyes at the time. I knew I was a big softy (soft-hearted) and I know hormones, patterns, and such sway us (to try and ‘work things out’), but I felt something was ‘off’ as soon as we arrived in Texas. Eventually, after that guy hurt my son and physically abused me (whether it was intentional or not), my son (who was 17 years old at the time) and I left. Neither of us never looked back (and my daughter, who had worried about us from a distance was sooo relieved)! The ex called and called. He called me at work. I would listen for a few minutes and then hang up. He cried, bullied, and threatened me. My boss at the time had met him and took his side. That shattered me. I couldn’t believe she’d take his side over mind since she’d worked with me everyday for nearly a year! Gasp! That just added to my already mentally excruciating experience! Thankfully, her boss and my coworkers believed me. At that time, I needed support.

I left that job and went back to Florida. I threw my hands in the air and said a big, WHATEVER! I didn’t care if I lived or died but was getting the hell out. Perhaps for some of us, that’s our rock bottom. We have to get to the precipice of dying before we make the biggest leap of our lives, alone, and into the unknown. Nothing (or nearly nothing) familiar. Relationship woes SUCK! I realized all I could do was start anew. Like ripping a plant up by its roots. Ah! I did it! I was FREE! Sweet release!

TUT quote about how much the Universe has our back. Something I wish I had known when I was experiencing relationship woes!

Yes, Everything Happens for a Reason and Everything Resolves to Gratitude. But damn, the process can be f’n painful.

May 4th – Big hair and tight Levi’s

It’s May 4th, 2024; Here’s an original rockin’ country song from a guy that wonders if he’s sportin’ it right. And he’s noticing her little skirt as they 2-step out on the dance floor. The groove is hot and yet, cool at the same time. And the lyrics are all bundled up in a swingin’ rock country fusion production mix (including piano) by Steven Cooper, Nashville, TN.

Judge not, lest ye be judged

Here’s the one-hundred-twenty-fifth new music post for 2024, as I consistently put one of our original songs out there for your enjoyment or scrutiny. As I heard someone say recently, there are some things, even some Seinfeld shows, that one couldn’t get away with creating or showing in today’s cancel culture. I hope no one is offended by Richard’s image in this video. Coaches say to “be unapologetically you,” but most people continue to judge a book by its cover.

We’re off!

We’re off! We’re driving a moving truck to New England (from Florida) this week. So, I’m keeping the articles short and simply sharing the song and an applicable meme (mine or others). Be blessed everyone!

April 8th – It’s Time

It’s April 8th, 2024; Here’s an original country rock song with a story about time that seems to be right on time today, with the solar eclipse! Ha! I love it when things like this happen; when the synchronicities align.

Brand new start

Here’s the ninety-ninth new music post for 2024, as I consistently offer up one of our original songs, and this time it’s a country fusion sound. If you’re tired of living in isolation and are ready for joy and celebration, you’ll enjoy this song. It’s time to mend a broken heart, fall in love, and make a brand new start.

March 30th – You never know until you go

It’s March 30th, 2024; Here’s an original swingin’ rock song–okay maybe it’s a rockin’ country song. You tell me! As I was about to say this is a rock song, the vocal sure has a country sound–don’t you think? But the overall groove feels like a rock tune. I’m stumped! Ha! Maybe this is because of the way in which I listen to music. I’m always sort of turning it around in ALL ways–especially as I consider what I’ll write about it.

I didn’t say it that way

Here’s the eighty-ninth new music post for 2024, as I consistently communicate through this blog about our original songs every day in the hopes of having the songs heard. I find the lyrics in this song sooo interesting since I talk a lot about ‘always and all ways.’ Have you ever felt misunderstood? Or have you felt you might have been able to convey your thoughts and feelings in a better way? This song is for you:

This is another extremely easy song to do the 2-step dance to. Now, if you don’t dance or want to try, let’s talk a bit more about the ‘always’ and ‘all ways.’ Here’s a snip of some of the quotes, and mantras I’ve used over the years:

Thank you, Peter!

We just finished watching Peter Santenello’s latest video on YouTube. I loved his final words, “You never know until you go.” And that’s my mantra now, for our move from Florida to New England in a month. Of course, I’d love to try this French bread, ginger cakes, gumbo, and prawns (yes, Peter, those were prawns in my estimation–not just shrimp)! Haha!

Oh, and were the sweet potatoes still in the bed of your truck after you got back from the sugar plantation?

I’ll keep this short today, so we can get back to a movie we’re watching. I’ll share about it tomorrow. Have some down time today in prep for Easter tomorrow. Much love!

Enjoy (IN Joy) and have fun! Be Everything All the Time.

May we all soar in ’24! Here’s to loving ourselves–in ALL ways, expanding our consciousness, enjoying some down time, and living FREE!

February 24th – One more second

It’s February 24th, 2024; We’ve got a fusion of country and rock music for you today in this original song. The smart lyrics in this song help the female empower herself as she moves on (from a relationship). It makes us think about Time and how we spend it.

Tick Tock

Here’s the fifty-fifth new music post for 2024, as I consistently provide you with a new original song each day. It’s an older Richard Murrey original song (written prior to me) that tells the love lost story from the female point of view. Julie Manners sings this from Steven Cooper’s music studio in Nashville, TN. I love the uptempo beat of this song!

Running through the memories of good times together, recalling sweet kisses, and times that will never happen again, are the main ideas in this upbeat song. I do find the balancing going on here, and call that good. It’s mature when we can look back and find the good, isn’t it? I’ll choose to focus on the empowerment in these words.

The beat goes on

So much of what goes on within a country rock song, besides the guitars, is the beat. I’ve heard so many people say they love (or only listen to) the beat of a song–often totally ignoring the lyrics! I know until I met Richard, I had no idea how songs were put together. And I had been a singer since childhood!

By the time I was a teenager and had learned how to write sheet music (from a great high school music teacher), I only wrote down what the time signature (such as 4/4 time) was for a song, but never played it, as I was much more concerned with establishing and writing down the melody. The time was important of course, to know how long to hold a quarter, half, or whole note while singing. I remember enjoying dreaming up melodies and writing them down, but only for my singing–I didn’t even play an instrument! I did visualize myself conducting an orchestra many times though.

While growing up, I listened to a lot of music–early on falling in love with classical music from having studied ballet. I also loved groups who incorporated vocal harmonies. And by the time I was a young teen, I’d found Queen and Styx and loved both bands! Of course, I grew up on The Beatles, and great groups like The Mamas & the Papas. But it was Mom who taught me how to harmonize when we sang together in church. Oh, and my maternal grandmother and mom’s sister, sang with us in church too!

I tried the guitar but never had the finger strength, reach, or dexterity to master it. Maybe I gave up too soon, But, even living with Richard for more than 20 years, I still am not interested in learning guitar. I sure have loved being around him while he played though, as I have always loved music. Come to think of it, my Mom and Dad loved music too! A stereo was their first major purchase when they got married! And like me, Mom was a singer, but never a musician–nor was Dad.

Speaking of parents, Richard’s Dad played the guitar a bit (but never sang) and his twin brothers both play guitar–though I’ve never heard them sing either. Richard’s sister sings though and has a good vocal tone as I recall. I guess Kentucky does produce a lot of artists! Nod to fellow blogger, Gray Summers, and our recent comment conversation regarding Johnny Depp and that Kentucky genetics must produce good artists.

Let me be brief

What did you think of Richard’s music ad in yesterday’s post? Let me leave it in today’s article as well (in case you missed it):

Richard’s ad for all of his original music albums (he did all the artwork too!)

May we all feel freer and soar in ’24! And here’s to keeping the beat in our lives by integrating processes that bring us more calm, ease, and JOY!

February 12th – Turn me loose

It’s February 12th, 2024; This fusion of country rock brings this original song to life with some strong guitar riffs and a mid-tempo beat. It’s a love song of a couple that meets in a grocery store and he sees her shopping for one. Another microwave entree in front of the TV. This is for someone who allows another to wind ’em up. This is for someone who isn’t sure they’ll ever love again. Eventually, we hear him sing “Wind me up to turn me loose to be with you and see what our love can do.”

Country rock song

Here’s the forty-third new music post for 2024, as I continually stay true to sending out a song a day and work on my consistency. This song talks about a couple getting to know each other to see if they might find love. Ice cream can sweeten a conversation. They looked into each others and felt something.

Not everything is as it appears

We enjoyed the Super Bowl football game last night, and we laughed out loud at several of the commercials–the biggest laughs came from the NFL Sunday Ticket commercial where the players flew around like different kinds of birds! What a hoot! And the Wicked commercial–oh my God! I can’t wait to see that movie! I’ve seen the stage play and loved it. I went with my daughter-in-law at the time (she’s passed now, so of course, I thought of her when I saw this ad). And my daughter and I were texting about which ads we liked most and she was super excited about Wicked. The great thing is that we’ll be able to go see that together when it comes out!

Unfortunately, Big Pharma still spoiled the evening a bit for me with a couple of their ads. I don’t want to see those–ever!!! Nor do I understand how Temu could run three big-budget ads. Do they really make that much money on their junk to be able to afford those? And that tagline? Shop like a billionaire? Who are they selling to–idiots? Billionaires buy quality merch, not junk! I thought THAT was outlandish! And while I loved the little snippet of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool trailer, they said we had to go watch the full thing on YouTube or such. I noticed another movie ad did the same thing. Guess those movie studios didn’t want to spring for an ad as long as the Temu commercial! Ha!

It was an exciting game though with both teams ahead for some amount of time and then tied a couple of times to wind up going into overtime. My daughter and I were texting about the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon ad (yes, it was supposed to be J. Lo’s ad, but it turned out more to be about them). And I shed a tear for that ice skating girl and her grandpa in the Kia SUV commercial. That was sooo touching. Oh, and the Bud Lite commercial was much better than last year’s too (About time they figured that out).

Las Vegas

I was happy to see some of the sights around Las Vegas during last night’s Super Bowl game. Last time I was there I saw the Penn & Teller theatre at the Rio where I was attending an ASEA Conference in 2019. I had a blast and was so glad I went. And seeing the game last night brought back good memories of that trip. I’ve been to Vegas three times in my life, all for short trips of two or three days, so I’ve not seen it all by a long shot.

p.s. We talked a lot about our dear friends, Wanda & Jim–Wanda, who passed away (Crossed Over to the Grand Beyond) a few days ago, and her husband, Jim, (who has also passed), while we watched the game last night as they were both HUGE football fans. They used to get so wound up over the games that they wouldn’t watch with anyone, though in later years, Wanda and I used to text each other during the commercials (just like my daughter and I did last night). That made the night very special for me.

Wanda also loved Usher, so though Richard and I would have skipped the halftime show, we watched it for her. I had to ask my daughter who all the performers were he brought out with him, as I only barely recognized Alecia Keys and had no idea of the others. She knew them all except the last guitar girl that came out. Lil John, Will I Am, and Ludacris. We just aren’t into rap much at all. We haven’t even listened to Tom MacDonald (indie rapper) yet, who we only knew of thanks to Roseanne’s podcast.
