It’s February 3rd, 2024; Today, I’m sharing a song done in a swingin’ country style that helps us consider what a life of no responsibilities would be like. Everything is paid and free! This is the life for me! Haha!
3 Squares & Cable TV
Here’s the thirty-fourth new music post for 2024, as I consistently share one of our original songs. It’s a swingin’ story song about a guy who goes to jail to “live the poor man’s dream.” I guess it attempts to see the fun side of that kind of life if that’s possible anyway. That’s my husband. He’s always to find the humor in things. Too much Benny Hill maybe? He has always tried to inject some humor into every situation. I needed it today.
Life isn’t always easy
Some of us are lucky/blessed to have been able to live a life of Freedom and Choice. Not all who come into this world, this plane of existence are able to choose. Such was the case of one of my eldest first cousins who passed away today.
When we were young
Through no fault of her own, my cousin Teresa, was born mentally disabled. Her family didn’t sue the doctor. As far as I know, my aunt and uncle forgave him and simply chose to work hard themselves (their whole lives) to care for their daughter. Teresa lived with them until they saw the effects of her being at home had on their other younger children. I don’t remember how old she was when they placed her in an institution–maybe 7 or 8. I cannot imagine that being an easy decision. I’m sure for my aunt, it was gut-wrenching. Teresa couldn’t speak–only scream. Teresa was about a year or so older than me. The doctors said she would probably only live to be 18. They were wrong.
Here’s one of the very few pictures of us. We are at a piano (Teresa on the left and me on the piano bench) and grandmother’s TV is behind us. I do not remember the piano but know my grandparents used to play music (mom talked about her parents playing steel guitars before they had children), so our grandparents must have sold the piano not long after this photo:

Finding solace in music
You’ll find Adele on my list of favorites songs. Richard and I love a LOT of Adele’s songs. But ‘When We Were Young’ is a definite favorite, and it’s been playing in my head all morning since my uncle called. At least, death (in the case of my cousin) is a release from bondage. Heaven, or what I call, The Grand Beyond, has welcomed her immediately as she was sinless.

If that link doesn’t open the playlist, here’s the two-step process in order to get to it. Click this link:

And when that list opens, click on Sheila’s All-Time Favorite Songs playlist. Let me know which of these songs are your favorites or which bands you have, or haven’t heard of before.
I also have a shorter playlist there too called, My Dance Break playlist and it is a list of my favorite Adam Cunningham songs of ours–yes, our originals that we hired Adam to sing for us from Beaird Studios in Nashville, TN.
May we all soar in ’24!
Find our songs on Spotify
It’s funny. Many of our original songs have been on CDBaby and TuneCore for years. Some of our songs are on Spotify at different locations. The key when you’re searching is to look for ‘Richard Murrey’ as the artist, OR ‘Chevy Ford Band.’ Let me know if that’s helpful. Here are a couple Spotify links if this helps:
