I typically post all product reviews on my other blog site: Being Wholly Vibrant. But this time, since this touches on our plants and other personal information, I’m including it here (and I may join these sites in future days as well). Before
My daughter is a Color Street nail stylist, otherwise my fingernails would always be bare. I don’t like the chemicals involved in the polish or the removers, hate the smell, etc. And Richard is very sensitive to smells too (and always complained whenever I would “paint my nails” so I just didn’t do it very often.
About 6 years or so (she can correct me if I’m wrong) my daughter began selling Color Street fingernail polish which is real polish but comes in the form of nearly dry nail strips that one “applies” themselves to their fingernails. And you can get as creative as you want with these. Of course, now, the line has expanded to include some products you can brush on (and yes, they smell). These include a strengthener, ridge filler, and two different kinds of “top coat” one applies after their polish strip has “cured.”
I wear one style about once a month on average and only keep 6-12 packages of nail strips in the house at any one given time. Guys, you can skip this article unless you want to order any for your wife/girlfriend or want to do your own nails–I do know a few men who paint their nails (and of course, rock stars do it too). Ha!
Before – left hand and our Christmas cactus and orchid plants in the backgroundBefore – right hand and our Christmas cactus and orchid plants in the backgroundAll the most recent products I bought: Nail Strengthener, Cuticle cream, Ridge-filling primer, Matte top coat, and Plumping top coat
I haven’t tried the Matte top coat yet because I typically wear glitter styles of the nail strips and I can’t imagine why someone would want a glitter polish not to shine. But I will try it eventually. It came in one of the multi-item packages I got.
After
This was the first set of strips I applied after using the Strengthener and Ridge-filler. It applied easily, but it was an older set (these work best when you use them within a year of purchase). This set was a bit sticky so I had to patch a couple of them.
What I hadn’t thought of but was happily surprised to find out, was that after I’d patched a couple of the nails (joining two strips on one nail), after I finished applying the Plumping top coat and it drying, I couldn’t feel the join at all! This was thrilling because if I can feel a bump or wrinkle I will end up picking off all the polish over the first few days, and that’s hard on one’s nails–it’s always best to remove with remover, even if you use non-acetone remover like I do. And I use the Color Street remover too because it’s less harsh and has an oily base to it so my bare nails feel so much better after.
Color Street also recently began offering some makeup, and I’ll post a review of their mascara soon over on Being Wholly Vibrant. And do comment and let me know if you’d like to see these kinds of reviews here or on the other site. Note: The other site has ads.

This was our first Thanksgiving in Ocala, Florida (and will probably be our last). Through no fault of anyone other than our upstairs neighbors (it’s more of a structural thing than them–except they work odd hours, coming in late and leaving very early in the mornings), and that the friends we have here aren’t any more social than the ones we left behind in south Florida. Sad to say. Granted, a few were ill and no one can blame them for not wanting to get together, but some didn’t even call or message. And I’m not the type to invite ourselves to someone’s house for Thanksgiving, even friends we’d had Thanksgiving with before.
If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio:
It is what it was
If I sound a little sad or aggravated, I guess I have been. But I’m working on my DE-Program process (Integrating the Spirals) and “letting it go.” Writing this post helps. It is what it was. I know we’re all adjusting to a “new normal.” I just wish people wouldn’t ignore us/or anyone. I don’t think it’s healthy to stay “shut in.” Of course, I am all for doing stuff on my own, Ms. Independent here. But I think all this time during COVID has really punctuated the point of getting together with others. I love my monthly Zoom calls, but hanging out in person–well, there’s so much that could be said for camaraderie.
Who did you celebrate with?
Our little local restaurant (we walk to) was closed for Thanksgiving day, so we ordered our food the day before. And then, I reheated our food on Thanksgiving day. And it was all delicious–more on that and pictures in a few minutes!
Our longtime friend, Nancy, sent us a bag of organic lemons. I call these our Sarah lemons because they grow on a lemon tree I gave Nancy years ago when her daughter, Sarah passed away. And Sarah loved lemons. Nancy was going to drive a couple hours to come visit us before Thanksgiving but I was sick that day, so she mailed these instead. The day before Thanksgiving we walked to our little local restaurant to have a cup of Christmas cheer with our bartender friend, Rob. My mom always used to have a cocktail on Thanksgiving and call it her “Christmas cheer.” So, this was a special pumpkin martini and I thought of her as I enjoyed it.One of my mom’s handkerchiefs, the Avon nativity set (that my mom and I had both collected one each when she sold Avon), a ceramic angel that was a gift, and a glass Christmas plate. I’m also putting a Christmas globe out, with a blue Fenton Art Glass deer, but otherwise, that’s all I’m doing to decorate the apartment for Christmas.I have to glue one of the gifts/hands that broke from one of the wise men. This is a closeup of the Avon ceramic nativity scene. I put it on our bar so I could meditate on it while I wash dishes in the sink. I typically have a Fenton candy dish sitting on mom’s handkerchief in this location.
I mused over some of the things I have from mom and dad, grandparents, and cousins. One gift I wear often is from my first cousin Greg–a garnet string of chip crystals. I’m always so thankful for the gifts from family (I have so few of those kinds of momentos). I love useful gifts or things I can wear to remember my loved ones. How about you? Do you do that too–think of your loved ones when you use or wear things they gave you? To me, that’s the heart of holidays like Thanksgiving.
Alone together
So, I called some family friends who were also alone for Thanksgiving, and enjoyed our phone calls, but Richard and I celebrated Thanksgiving alone this year.
I have a strong feeling that we’ll be up north with family next summer and thus, won’t even be living in Florida this time next year to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends. Oh, well! I’m glad we did it when we did a few years ago and will have to settle on simply being grateful “We did that then.”
We had turkey, stuffing (dressing), a very small amount of bourbon gravy, which was new to us, and green bean casserole, also new to us and very creamy and cheesy. We also had carrots and potatoes and a fantastic yam/sweet potato casserole with little marshmallows on top–I hadn’t had one of those casseroles in years!
We ended our Thanksgiving feast with a slice of chocolate cream pie (as I’ve been doing a lot lately reminiscent of my dad–he always loved a good chocolate cream pie. I found the Edwards brand in the store freezer case and have decided it’s the best for the price for us now).
What “food” holiday do you celebrate?
What similar holiday do you celebrate in your country?
I love Diwali in India. I’ve celebrated it several times with coworkers. It will be one of the things I miss when I retire. Actually, I’ve worked at home for the last 6.5 years, so come to think of it, I haven’t celebrated Diwali in person with anyone for a long time. I love Indian food, so it used to be one of the holidays I always looked forward to when I worked in an office–all that delicious food!
Giving thanks for ALL
I love gifts that keep on giving. Here’s the new crystal bracelet from one of my cousins who I met recently on Facebook–she makes these. I bought one to match for my daughter, and then one each for our three granddaughters in their favorite colors for Christmas. And I’m wearing Color Street polish on my fingernails, which I’ll post about next (my daughter is a Color Street stylist). I’m still juicing these lemons from Sarah’s lemon tree too. I think I will get them all used up before they spoil without even needing to freeze the juice.

My uncle Jim (my mom’s brother) got into wood turning years ago and for a long time I had no idea what he was doing–I could only picture table or chair legs when he’d tell me about wood turning during phone calls . If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and there’s a few minutes of BONUS info on the audio this time too!):
Wood turning history
In discussing woodturning with my uncle Jim, I asked him if there was anything he’d like me to include in the article maybe about like the history of it, or just how enjoyable it is when you’re crafting from the wood like that?
The slimline wood turned pen my uncle Jim made. I think it looks cool sitting on this wood bowl we bought years ago too. Can you see it? It blends in!
Here’s what I learned from my uncle (written mostly from his perspective):
The history of turning
When I think back the history of wood turning goes back a long, long way. Even before we had electricity and metal equipment, turning the lathe goes back to when the lathe was called a pole lathe. They would take a tree and bend it over something else to enable a sort of treadle, that would allow the wood to turn. Later, someone invented a foot treadle to power the turning machine. That was used all the way until they got electricity and motorized lathes came into being. That gives you some history of how the wood is turned. I find it is a very fulfilling thing to do and artistic in a way too.
There’s one magazine I have had, it kind of got expensive, so I’m not taking it now. It showed how people turned simple things to turning pins and bowls to more artistic things. And it’s become a very artistic and elaborate hobby for many people. Some people are professional woodturners and they make their living. For me, I’m just not interested in that kind of thing. It just goes way beyond my ability and it is just something I’m not interested in. Also, sometimes it takes months to accomplish one of these complex projects.
Different kinds of wood turning
Of course, learning all kinds of different ways of wood turning can lead you into creating something, and developing some items that you could market. Many wood turned items have become popular. There’s one kind of wood turning that is called Segmented woodturning, which I would love to be able to do. It’s where you make weight at that table saw. You saw up just small pieces and it takes some learning to be able to know the exact angles and you have to decide how big you want your piece to be. How many segments and such. You cut all these pieces, you make a ring and you glue all that together, and then you stack those and then of course you turn it until you have an outcome that is quite beautiful.
And then there’s one they call Dizzy. They take very, very small thin layers of wood and there shall I say kind of up and down. You kind of bend them to a certain degree and glue them in turn and you get these beautiful shapes and colors so it can be very pretty and very pleasing. So it’s very satisfying. Like, say it’s artistic and so it’s fulfilling for people.
How my uncle learned wood turning
I’ve always wanted to do wood turning since I was in high school and I couldn’t get into that. The teachers seemed to kind of want to keep me in academics (instead of wood shop) as if I was going to college even though I wasn’t interested in going to college. But that didn’t seem to matter. So anyway, I never was able to get into that until much later in life. Your aunt Janice’s sister Janet said, “There’s an article in the paper, about a little place called Woodcraft and they’re going to be having an exhibit.” And it wasn’t about turning, it was about carving. And that’s a whole other ballgame. People carve wood ducks and spend months and months on them because they use very little knives. And they’re, they’re so patient and they’re carving feathers to the point that you can’t tell this wooden duck from a real duck! It’s very time-consuming.
So anyway, I went and I happened to go see this thing and it was a it was probably three and a half feet long and a half two foot deep. And it was probably two and a half feet tall. It was a big display of an old western saloon. And it had all the tables and chairs turned and people were carved in it too. It had a whole grid like set up. I wasn’t interested in carving but it was interesting to look at. I saw a gentlemen there I knew. I told him I was interested in turning and he invited me over to his shop to see what he’d turned.
So that began my love for turning and specifically, turning pens. It was a wonderful blessing for me that Don (a gentleman that a church family friend had dated for several years) was willing to spend that time and introduce me to such an interesting and fulfilling craft. People make more elaborate and complicated turns, like Dizzy bowls where they take different pieces of wood, close together–glued up. They’ll skip every other one. And so it’s called an open segment. And that’s a different thing to look at.
Look at some artistic turning videos. It’s wild the designs that people come up with. I mean some will combine turning and carving together and they just come up with some very unique and different-looking creations. People even get some of their works into museums!
You can get into some very, very expensive turnings. One can spend thousands of dollars. But, it may take months to create each project. That gives you some ideas of how many types of turnings there are to look at (see the YouTube links in this article). Different and unique designs to expand your vision and a knowledge of turning. For me, it’s just something very satisfying. This form of arts and crafts is very relaxing.
The Slimline pen in action.
Wood turning safety
When you are working with a piece of equipment such as a lathe, safety is of the utmost importance. A motorized lathe is revving at fast speeds. My small lathe can turn at 3500 RPMs; others can turn up to 5000 RPMs. So you have to be careful and stay safe. Of course, we wear a mask or a shield that can filter all the air. Because wherever you turn, whenever you breathe, what goes in stays in so you can’t be without something that filters those particles out. And sanding is the worst. You’ve got to have a filtering system, whatever that may be, whether it’s just on your face or whether it’s a piece of equipment that continually filters the air. You have to be careful with that and always wear a shield because you’re turning off pieces of spin. In the beginning you’re gonna have some bark flying off and larger pieces. So you got to protect yourself that way. And of course, you have to remember that it’s happened before where we have had a few people die from performing wood turning.
Finishing wood turned pieces
When you complete a wood turned item you may feel negative with your finished piece. You may start with only 200, 300, 400, or 500 RPMs spins, because it’s out of balance. So once you get it in balance, then you can turn the lathe speed up and you can turn the piece quicker. And then when you’re sanding sometimes use either high or low speed, but some people forget and just turn their lathe off. Well, then they forget. Then they put a new piece of wood on the lathe and it gets out of balance and they turn that thing on and it’s running at full speed and the piece flys right off. Even at your best of anchoring this thing a piece can come flying off or it can just simply break apart. And that does happen. I like to work with one-piece/solid chunks of wood. But some people like to work on a piece of wood that has more holes in it. They say the more cracks in it the better because it gives the finished piece character. And it does look nice, but it’s just not one of my things. I delight in the natural beauty of the wood grain (the design within the wood) of the solid wood pieces.
See the natural beauty within the wood of this slimline pen?
Then there’s a whole world of skill and how you use your tools. What to do and what not to do. Because we can catch and therefore things can come apart if you have to get down to where you’re fairly thin. And you’ve got some of these holes and things that could catch (on the lathe) and things could come apart. People have been hurt by these kinds of things. That’s just some of what you can do.
There are times that you’re gonna be using a table saw again, some here wood pieces. Get it down to small pieces like it could be two or three feet long, maybe only three or four inches wide and that’s when you’re cutting all these small little pieces. So use tables. To do that. Of course, add some safety and sometimes you’ll be using the bandsaw to it again, a great big chunk of wood and it’s just got four corners. You want to make this thing round because that’s a lot less vibration, a lot less beat and bang for the lathe to get this thing around. So if you use a bandsaw you can cut those corners and make it a round piece of wood before you put it on the lathe, which is wonderful. This also offers an extra measure of safety while you’re using all these different kinds of tools.
The joy of wood turned pieces
But here again, it is just as enjoyable because you can do so many other things with what they got flat. And if you were making a table you got a great big piece of wood there for a slab for your tabletop, if that’s what you make it out of it. You can always branch out into what was called flat work which is building cabinets, coffee tables, side tables, and dining tables. All these kinds of things have gone by the way side though. I’m sorry to see less turned pieces when I see advertisements now on TV of wood items. Solid flat furniture is one I see a lot. And they’ll say they’ve got a certain price for all these tables and chairs. And you look at that. Just straight edges. There’s not one bit of terrain there. There’s nothing artistic about it. Right. Oh my goodness, that is so plain. That bothers me but I know it’s quick and fast and cheaper. So they can just simply cut it out. Put it together. Put a finish on each piece and out the door it goes. Oh no, that’s not for me.

I love this post from Dr. Eben Alexander and I love everything about the Near Death Experience he has written books about. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and there’s a few minutes of BONUS info on the audio this time too!):
When I first heard Eben’s story of the Afterlife, to say I was shocked and enthralled was to put it mildly–my reaction. I thought, now surely, people will believe there really IS an Afterlife!
But even while working for Dr. Raymond Moody last year, as a volunteer email correspondent, people still wrote in asking him if he thought there was a real Afterlife. Dr. Moody has often stated in interviews he believes there must be because so many have seen it during Near Death and Shared Death Experiences (NDEs and SDEs), but our human mind has such a difficult time accepting this (for some reason).
Me? I’m certainly a believer after all I’ve seen, during dreams, Afterlife visitations from my mother, and from what my less than one-day-old sister, Christina, showed me and I wrote about in the book, Blue Eyes: Ethereal Messages of Connection (link at the end of this post). I feel the vibrancy of my experiences still. As if they occurred yesterday! The memory of my experiences of the Afterlife, or what I call, the Grand Beyond never fade. And for that, I am most humbly and profoundly grateful.
I’m sharing Eben’s post today because I just took a deep dive with Anita Moorjani on Saturday via a Zoom call with Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Shamani Jain, and Gregg Braden, which I will also write about this week. But when I saw Eben’s post in my email, I wanted to get this one out first, because I figured I could write this up more quickly (the other is taking a bit more time, though now, they’ll probably have taken the same amount of time–I’d thought I would simply post a link to his article, silly me).
–I took this Thanksgiving week off work to “work on/play” in Joy with my 5th book (title forthcoming but you can probably guess), which is in progress and I am on track to publish after the New Year. We’ll see! Haha!
Yours in expanding, thrilling, revolving, spiraling consciousness,
To our better health, ease, joy, and sustainment in JOY!
Be the highest evolving version of who your soul is beckoning you to Be. No “Perfection” needed. Making progress is enough. Carrying your Karma lightly is enough. Be kind to yourself while living responsibly. Who you ARE affects us ALL because… We Are All Connected.
Energy/Omniscience knows and IS ALL. Everything is Spiritual. God ALLways.
My online Zoom video course, Integrating the Spirals is more timely now than ever because I know people are suffering. (Let me know if you’re interested in working through the Integrating the Spirals course.)
As an empath I want to help ease suffering and raise our vibration to offer hope. I want to uplift others and expand our collective consciousness. I teach breath work and meditation so we appreciate the value of Detachment. We till our inner soil with our breath to calm the amygdala and institute peace. Meditation is an easy way to Connect us with spirit, higher selves, Omniscience God, and receive non-programmed personal guidance.
