January 11th – Reflecting and honoring

It’s January 11th, 2024; For many reasons, I’ve been reflecting on the past and my ancestors these last few days.

Yesterday, I gave thanks to my parents and grandparents for being born and getting the opportunity to LIVE this fascinating life! One of my uncles passed away on Jan. 9th in the evening. We weren’t close, but I feel for my three cousins who’ve ‘lost’ their dad (in this life).

I also just signed up for a new ladies’ circle for the year (with Gloria Grace Rand–I’ll link later to this), because of the kinship I feel with her and to honor all of the business support she has provided us in her book and podcast! I wanted to join her Zoom calls last year, but they were for entrepreneurs and done on a weekday from 11:30 am-1:pm; I was “always working” though, and instead of prioritizing it, I deferred until I retired. So, yes, I treated myself (her Richard gifted me, whichever way we want to look at it), with a one-year subscription to her circle.

A song about reflecting

Here’s the eleventh new music post for 2024 as I consistently share our original songs. This is a song about a man who was friends with a woman, and probably hoping for something more, but she was in love with another and ended the friendship to pursue the other man. The other man passed away but she was still lost in the “what could have beens” and thus, no other relationship would do.

Honoring past relationships

I think it’s fine to honor our past relationships for helping us learn lessons and help us become the people we are today. But ruminating or wishing we could have a do-over isn’t so good (IMHO). I know some people who have rekindled their previous relationships, even remarried, and a few have gone to live happier the second time around. But there are probably just as many maybe more who weren’t happy the second time around and split again (which is what happened to me with my second ex-husband–gasp–even after he’d fired a gun in my direction! What an idiot I was at that time to EVER go back to him. UGH!). And no, I am hardly ever triggered (yes, I know, there’s that word), when I think or speak of that relationship because it really taught me a hell-of-a-lot, and that I could honestly rely on myself and God to get me (and my children) through anything!

What past experiences do you ruminate on or cherish?

I love this memory (referring to the photo). When you have wonderful memories, do some reflecting on those too! Maybe ruminate on the times you treated yourself to something you felt was extravagant, like that vacation your soul yearns to take, meeting a relative you’ve never met, or whatever! Maybe this is something you perceive as being out of your grasp–like my desire to go to Arkansas and dig for diamonds in the dirt! Haha! It’s high on my list of things to do this Spring.

I had such life-enhancing experiences on the Sacred Celtic Journey that Richard and I took to Ireland, England, and Scotland in 2019 that I reminisce about it often. And though he “just went for me” he’s always remarked how glad he was that he went too! My Integrating the Spirals course was born from the insights I received from God, the Universe, my Higher Self, ancestors, and ALL whilst on that trip (18 days in total with a second return trip for Winter Solstice at Newgrange in County Meath again in December of 2019)!

In 2019, Richard took the picture. Patricia McGivern always posts it on Facebook for my birthday! Our Sacred Celtic Journey meant so much to us!

January 10th – Celebrating my birthday

It’s January 10th, 2024; We’re celebrating my birthday and I have a couple of songs for you! the first song, Wonderin‘, was supposed to be included in one of the episodes of the TV show, Ozark. This is the first song Richard and I wrote together (he wrote the music and I wrote the lyrics) when we were dating long distance over 20 years ago! I was in a travel trailer out in Missouri and he was working at the Space Center in Florida. We’d never had a physical date at this point, hence all the wondering I’d been doing. But my daughter said I was already in love with Richard before we even had our first in-person date! Haha!

The second song, Madly in love, is one of several he’s written for me, with loads of photos of me throughout the years (and yes, some that were taken long before we met that he’s always loved). Eye-feasting or whatever! Ha!

Loving relationships

As I explained yesterday, I am Richard’s third wife and he’s my third husband. When I introduced Richard to my parents my mom shrieked, “He’s been married twice before?” And then I calmly told her, “So have I.” Ha! That stopped the judgment right in its tracks. Mom never said any more about it, nor did my dad. They loved Richard though and now, all I choose to dwell on were the words mom said to Richard just prior to her going into her final years of Alzheimer’s disease, “Take care of my baby.” And he has. In turn, I am doing my best for him post-stroke. Just because the body breaks down in later years is no reason for the romance to end, even if all you can do is hug, kiss, and hold hands! We feel that is vitally important too!

Speaking of mom and dad

Even years before my mom passed, my dad would be the first to call me on my birthday and sing, Happy Birthday, to me–and if I didn’t answer the phone, he’d sing it on voicemail. And yes, I still have one of those recordings. I loved my dad’s voice (well, mom’s too, but sadly I don’t have much of mom on those voicemail recordings).

So THIS happened today and I call it my little Wink from the Universe, or in this case of synchronicity, Wink from my dad (he passed in 2019, mom in 2017 their eulogies are linked).

Cake! Cake! We love the cake! Haha!

I’m having so much fun today, and writing this blog article is part of it. We walked to our local diner for breakfast and then to the grocery store to pick up my free birthday cake. If you are near a Publix store, they will gift you a cake or ice cream on your birthday if you sign up for their loyalty program, which I highly recommend. I’ve been getting their delicious carrot cake every year on my birthday for the last several years.

We don’t eat dessert often, but when we do, we go for the good stuff! And I had to quote one of our favorite lines from the TV show, Little Britain. Always seek to live IN Joy with no guilt or regrets.

January 6th – Challenging the status quo

It’s January 6th, 2024; Things typically come in threes for me. First, my son-in-law’s Bengal kitty of 19 years passed, then my son had something going on in his hand/arm and thought it was a small stroke, now we hear it is degeneration in his neck; last night our brother-in-law had to go to a hospital for a-fib (he’s now out of the hospital, thank God).

As for the music today, I woke up thinking about how I challenge the status quo while living warm and comfortable in our one-bedroom ‘suburban luxury’ apartment. I know we have it better than many and I do NOT take any of this for granted. Yes, I went to school (for YEARS), and had student loans too, but I always worked one, two, or three jobs and this past year, paid off my loans early and thanks to a little hint from my uncle, and us choosing to sell our car, we paid off the only credit card we had so we’re out of debt. I can tell you, that my life has not been easy, but there have been these constants that have helped me ‘rise above’ ALL challenges.

Constants

I have always had a strong belief in myself and in God. My views have changed over the years about God though, as written previously, and I still meditate, read voraciously on ALL things spiritual, and meet in book clubs with others to expand my faith and consciousness. Now, there are few whom I can’t talk with about God because of the expansion in me that has taken place.

I’ve always been strong-willed. I’ve never denied the power of God within me. I am a huge believer in self-help, self-growth, personal responsibility, and taking back our individual power (if we have ever mistakenly given it over to others). Self-sovereignty is another way to say it. No Ego, but an emptying of that sense of Self and allowing Spirit to pull me along, which is where my integrity comes from versus following a set of rules, which may have been mistranslated or skewed by others to suit their agendas.

I’ve always questioned authority (those who think they have power and control over) and stood for FREEDOM. I have never expected anything to be given to me.

Music

Here’s the sixth new music post for 2024 as I consistently present you with our originals (written by my extremely talented husband, Richard–music and lyrics). And strive for consistency by setting up self-challenges, such as writing these music blog articles every day.

I’m secretly hoping some radio stations play these radio-ready tunes–as I grew up on radio! As a youngster, I couldn’t afford to buy many records, but I did make mix tapes for myself off the radio when I got my first cassette recorder! Ha! January 5th – Goes circular

It’s January 5th, 2024; I’m thankful my son is out of the hospital and the rest of my family is well.

I continued reading through some of my collected research this morning (for my 5th book that’s in progress). Following along on my post from yesterday, my book research circled back to family relationships. I delved into some intrigue too, when I watched a very curious video from Tucker Carlson (that was just released 15 hours ago as of this writing), of his interview of Mark Epstein. I was struck by how important it is for a family to stay in touch, though again, one can never really know someone (as yesterday’s post pointed out). Mark said he had not seen his brother in 7 years (prior to Jeff’s death in federal prison).

January 4th – Examining who we know

It’s January 4th, 2024; I’m thinking about my son (who happens to be in the hospital at the moment) and what it means to give birth to a son and daughter (I have one of each).

I started my day off reading about Charlie Rich and how his hit song, Behind Closed Doors, made him a household name for a time. I always loved his voice, but that was a groundbreaking song during my childhood and helped me form an early opinion on the fact that “We never really know someone.” Decades later, I’d see that emerge again on one of my favorite pay TV shows ever, Six Feet Under, when the character David espouses the statement, “You can’t ever really know a person. If you think you can, you’re living in a F…ing dream world.”

I also read a very stirring account of a person confined to prison (for 27 years) and how I cannot begin to imagine the isolation they feel and how glad I am that (in their words) writing reconnects them with their humanity.

January 3rd – Time for James Bond

It’s January 3rd, 2024 and I’m thinking about James Bond. Why? Oh, I am enjoying retirement and scanning the streaming services to see if I’ve viewed every James Bond movie ever made. Haha! No, I’m not bored already, just investigating to see what’s available. It also helps to introduce today’s original song!

Here’s the third of my new music posts for 2024. This is how I’ll share more of our original music for you to get to know us better and hear songs you’ve never heard before. I’ve figured out a good strategy for sharing the songs in my blog first, then sharing the blog articles over to Tumblr (automatic feed from WordPress), Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and Alignable (in that order).

I’m aiming to get more eyes and ears on our songs–since we have over 400 originals and most of you have never heard them! If you find some you love, we would love it if you’d share the song (or this post) with your friends.

Here’s a song that pays tribute to many (not all) of the James Bond movies. Perhaps, if we’re lucky, it could get picked up and used in the next Bond flick! Wouldn’t that be a hoot?

January 2nd – New music as you return to work

Happy January 2nd, 2024! Oh, I am enjoying retirement already–no Sunday night anxiety, no ‘back to work’ anxiety after the holidays, and no thought of who needs what from me at all! I’ve been waiting my whole life for this! I’ve worked nearly every year of my life since I was 15, only having taken two years off when I had my children 22 months apart when I was between 18-20 years of age.

2023 can be left in the dust

2023 was fairly memorable for us, as it’s when we left South Florida and moved north to Ocala, FL. But still, now that we are here, we’re thinking we didn’t move far enough north! Ha! So, this summer, we’ll move again and be near family. We’re settling into that idea after living in hot Florida for about the last 35 years (since Dec. 1985 for me, and Richard had lived here even prior to that–we didn’t know each other back then).

Here’s the second of my new music posts for 2024 as I wrote about yesterday. This is how I’ll share more of our original music for you to get to know us better and hear songs you’ve never heard before. I’ve figured out a good strategy for sharing the songs here first, then I will share this post to Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Alignable (in that order). I’ll share videos to TikTok and we’ll see how that goes. It doesn’t seem people see stuff there unless I’m on TikTok and using it to watch videos or scroll through people’s posts.

My goal is to get more eyes and ears on our songs–since we have over 400 originals and most of you have never heard them! Of course, if you find some you love, we would be thrilled if you’d share the post with your friends.

Happy birthday to my ‘sis’!

I’m excited about this new year–and January 2nd (as it’s my best friend’s birthday). Happy birthday, Doris Lee! We couldn’t wait to turn 18, then 21, and after that, I think both of us wanted the years to quit clicking by! We both got married and had children, and then our lives diverged with my moving to Florida when I was 22, but we always stayed in touch and in many ways are more like sisters than most blood-related siblings! I hope you have the Best Day Ever, ‘sis’!

News!

I’m deciding today on some new types of posts for 2024 and have decided to focus on posting about our original music each day! I’ll post here, and to my Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn to get more eyes and ears on our songs–I posted a song each day in 2023 on my Facebook page, but I’d also been working and caregiving for my hubby, so life got busy and I didn’t always post a song daily and ended the year by doing weekly or bi-monthly with a song for each day within one post. But I met my self-challenge at least! And since we have over 400 originals, I still haven’t gotten all of the songs posted to Facebook and will continue sharing there too, through January. Wink!
