Guidance

I’ve often been a bit harsh when it comes to people needing religious guidance, yet I now consider myself a spiritual teacher. I have come to realize that while we strive to simply practice our beliefs, walk our talk, and so forth, sometimes we do need assistance, either from a sacred book, teacher, mentor, coach, or such.

You might also like to read the article I published a few months ago about The Book. I believe every sacred book can offer us guidance and encouragement. When people refer to the Holy Bible, I always ask “Which translation?” as I think there are so many different versions that we’d need to be ‘on the same page’ in order to have a deep dive discussion about it. I also think during the translation process a word or phrase has been altered from the original to change the meaning (purposefully or not) to suit someone’s agenda.

I think we each can grow strong enough spiritually, not to need the ‘training wheels’ of religion. I define religion as a ‘structure,’ ‘box,’ or ‘path’ that relies on discipline and duty to keep people adhering to it. I’d much rather meditate to commune with my Higher Power, God, Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, or such. But that’s because I’m a do-it-yourself, independent kind of person. I feel people need to honor that which serves them the most to grow their soul. I was always taught to study to “show thyself approved,” (biblical scripture) and thus found this to be ‘the way.’

Story songs

Richard loves to observe people and write story songs. He’s done this for far longer than he’s known me. When we started discussing what led him to write some of these songs, he has said he was always curious about why people make this or that choice or decision in life. And that fascinates me too, being one who writes a lot about moral ambiguities and multifaceted enigmas. I’ve always believed the truth lies somewhere in between. Now that I see everything in a multidimensional way, with each of us as fractals of Omniscience, this way of looking at life has become even less about facts and more nuanced.

Before skin bronzers were a thing

Here’s the one-hundred-sixtieth new music post for 2024, as I consistently push out new original songs for your listening pleasure–while you are relaxing in the sun to get your golden glow on. Now, here’s the song:

Tanned and ready

I’m not one to slather on SPF this or that to prevent sunburn. I actually believe the sun has a purpose! I think we need to limit our time in full sun, and maybe that’s why some cultures began taking siesta during the day, but science says we need a certain amount of sun each day to create vitamin D in our bodies.

I used to use coconut oil on my skin (top to bottom) but didn’t know if I was doing the right thing until a veterinarian confirmed the use of coconut oil to prevent sunburn–he told me that when he was a youngster from the islands that all the parents slathered homemade coconut oil on their children from birth on to prevent the sun from burning their already dark skin! He encouraged me to use coconut oil on our dogs’ skin when one had a flaky itchy skin condition! I never bought another skin lotion for myself or my husband after that!

Coconut oil may not solve every skin condition, but I’d rather trust anything God made over anything manmade (and this is true for me in most instances too), as I always love to “go back to the source” as much as possible. I’m probably an anti-consumer. Ha!

Flip side of the coin

While sexting or sexy texting is fun, flirty, and frivolous (a seemingly “it’s isn’t hurting anyone”) activity, there can be downsides if one is doing these things outside of a monogamous relationship/marriage. Be warned, texting/sexting can be addictive and lead to trouble.

Unfortunately, while I love this song, it does remind me of a negative situation. Within my family, one of the guys became so addicted to sexting that it broke up his marriage. I won’t go into the details as it isn’t my story to tell, but suffice to say, it was hell on his wife. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

June 6th – They know my truck drinks

It’s June 6th, 2024; We have an original pop-rock song that tells the tale about a truck that drinks. This song was written (music and lyrics) by my rockin’ husband Richard Murrey. This upbeat rock song shows off vocals from Bubba Hudson. This unique pro demo is all set for radio–mixed by Steven Cooper in his Nashville, TN, music studio. 

How’d they know?

Here’s the one-hundred-fifty-eighth new music post for 2024, as I consistently plug away at entertaining you with an original song each day this year. Can you believe nearly half of the year is done already? Now, on with the song:

Truckin’

How many of you drive a truck? A lot of people in my family have been truck drivers. Some owned their trucks, others did not. My maternal grandfather was a trucker. My dad and uncle were truckers. Several of my third cousins were truckers (even one of the girls)! I used to ride with my dad in his truck a few times. He used to tell me stories about his truck-driving adventures.

One of Dad’s stories involved the time he dropped a cigarette in his lap. I think it scared him so bad, that was the end of his smoking. He told me he crumpled the pack up and threw it out.

Most of my family members worked on their own trucks too, fixing mechanical issues, changing the oil, changing tired, and so on. They did real handyman things–always troubleshooting. I think that’s what made me so analytical.

June 5th – My friend

It’s June 5th, 2024; We have an original jazz-rock song about someone who forgets that his partner is also his friend. This song was written (music and lyrics) by my friendly husband Richard Murrey. This upbeat rock song contains vocals by Bubba Hudson, along with punches of saxophone from John Heinrich, all elegantly mixed by Steven Cooper in his Nashville, TN, music studio. 

How do we make friends?

Here’s the one-hundred-fifty-seventh new music post for 2024, as I make consistent forward motion to entertain and please my readers (and perhaps draw in some new ones) by sharing unique music and words.

Be a friend

I bet each of us thinks we’re a good friend to someone. My mom raised me to be a good friend. She taught me the value of loyalty and trust. She always encouraged me to keep someone’s secret, even if I felt compelled to share it with ‘just one other person.’ Mom told me that if someone told me something about someone else, they’d talk about me to others. I never forgot that. She also told me that trust is foundational to being a good friend and maintaining a real friendship. 

I think honoring our friends with calls, letters, or such (to keep and strengthen the connection) is also vital in these days and times when it’s so easy to become distracted by information overload.

June 4th – Rhythm of life

It’s June 4th, 2024; We have an original country song about a guy waiting on his love to return (on this or another plane of existence). This song was written (music and lyrics) by my talented husband Richard Murrey. And this sweet country song was masterfully mixed by Steven Cooper in his Nashville, TN, music studio.

Here’s the one-hundred-fifty-sixth new music post for 2024, as I make consistent progress in my quest to entertain and expand everyone’s consciousness with music and words.

Existentially yours

I believe a part of us exists for all time, and through all space. I write the word ‘all’ as ‘ALL’ a lot because of the experiences I’ve had, both metaphysical and ethereal. I’ve seen the whole of it ALL and I feel the ‘All That Is’ (Omniscience) permeating through everything–even rocks! I know the human body is a temple for spirit and soul, and thus, I feel it will return to the dust one day, while the spirit and soul travel on.

June 3rd – Old school sugar daddy

It’s June 3rd, 2024; We have an original rock song about the guy who raised two wives (before me). Yes, this is a true story song written (music and lyrics) by my incredible husband Richard Murrey. Bubba Hudson lent us his voice on this song and the production mix was skillfully mastered by Steven Cooper in his Nashville, TN, music studio. I imagine there were some laughs in the studio while this was being recorded/mixed. Ha!

Teaching in a new way

Here’s the one-hundred-fifty-fifth new music post for 2024, as I consistently press forward with an original song to uplift, educate, and entertain. When I first met Richard, I felt bad for him that he’d gone through so much with his two previous marriages, but later I realized, I’m glad he appreciates me more from having lived through the previous two! Ha!

Who we are today

I believe we are who we are today based on all we’ve experienced in the past. Of course, the more we can laugh while going through the process, the better, but sometimes our journeys are too difficult (to laugh at the time).

Results from my first art class

I’ve been so focused on marketing our original music, that you may have forgotten that I’m working on my 5th book–I forget much of the time too! I’m still researching for the book with no release date in mind yet (though I am speaking with a book publisher this week). As well, my daughter got me out of the house last night to take an art class. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and there’s a few minutes of BONUS info on the audio this time too!):

Art class

It couldn’t have been a better subject than a Highland cow or Hairy Coo (as they are called in Scotland). Having seen Hairy Coo in Scotland (in 2019) I thought I’d do better on this. I think my daughter’s version turned out much better than mine, not that it was a competition. She’s been working at the art studio for two years and has picked up a lot of great ideas, though I do believe she’s a natural at this (see the last picture from her Facebook post of us).

This is what I started with (my daughter does most all of the tracings for every class at the studio).
This was the model and what we were aiming to do. Our teacher, Jeanie, encouraged us to take a photo of the model so we could zoom in on our phones to see the details. That didn’t help me toward the end though as I didn’t add the green leaves and little dots of flowers on the coo’s head. I almost forgot the white dots on the butterfly and the blue in the coo’s eyes too! Ha!
Almost done. I added the blue to the eyes but had not added the white dots to the butterfly yet.
I think my Hairy Coo looks great at home on the new white bedside table I got in from Etsy.

I really enjoyed painting, but I will say, that I observed us during the class, and aside from a little, “What did she say we do now?” and the like, my daughter and I were very focused on our art pieces. Others in the class were talking, laughing, and drinking (yes, it was a bring-your-own wine event), and while we were enjoying ourselves, I only got down about half of my cup of wine spritzer. I saw myself as being very serious and diligent in my ‘work.’
