February 2nd – Love returned

It’s February 2nd, 2024; Here’s another ‘rekindle a love’ and as I listen to this song I wonder, does true love ever fade? I’ve written before that the feelings of love run deep. And love is a sort of phenomenon that ‘Science’ has yet to prove how it happens, though I guess we know why–to propagate life on the planet.

Does true love fade?

Here’s the thirty-third new music post for 2024, as I consistently offer you one of our original songs. Similar to You’ll Come Running, which I wrote about on https://sheilamurrey.net/2024/01/30/january-30th-a-rock-song-of-returning-love/, this is a song with a story about a man waiting on his love to return. She’s late, and he’s wondering if she’s changed her mind, got tied up in traffic, or whatnot.

Love is hard to figure out

This song takes another look at people who used to be in love or in a relationship and why they want to rekindle that love and rebuild their relationship. Or do you get something else from this? I am curious if I am too close to the subject matter. I know several people who have returned to a former love–I did.

Sometimes people return to the “comfortable past,” as Dr. Joe Dispenza talks about because, well, it’s comfortable! It’s known. It’s familiar. And the unknown is often more scary than the past–even if the past was hurtful or chaotic. Most of us prefer our “predictable future” based on our comfortable past.

My meme: “Sometimes it takes years to see the screw get turned the other way. I, for one, am glad to see it happen.” — Sheila Murrey

In my meme, I said I am glad to see it–when karma comes back around to bite someone on the rear. The flip side of that coin is that sometimes I wish I didn’t see it. I wish I wasn’t right. I’d almost rather be wrong than to tell someone, “I told you so.” Weird, huh?

After sitting with my words from the other day, about that couple we met at the restaurant whose date ended badly, I may have been too harsh. Yes, I can admit when I am wrong. I only judged that situation (and that superficial couple) because the woman had pulled me into the situation a bit (by asking me to walk her to her car). Richard didn’t think I should have walked her to her car, by the way, citing safety issues. He knew I’d gotten up and walked out but hadn’t realized why or what she’d told me–until we discussed it the next day. You see? I’m still learning–even at my age.

And when that list opens, click on Sheila’s All-Time Favorite Songs playlist. Let me know which of these songs are your favorites too! I’ve got 110 songs on that list now. Haha!

Yes, I love a LOT of different kinds of music. This is not even all the songs I like, but most of the songs that pop back into my mind depending upon my mood. Or songs representative of a whole album I used to listen to. I’d like to put these in order from when I first heard them or to represent periods of my life, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to that. They are not necessarily in the order of preference.

I listened to the whole Rush 2112 album over and over when I was a teen, for example. I also used to listen to Aerosmith, Steppenwolf, The Moody Blues, The Guess Who, Styx, and Supertramp albums over and over. Eventually, when I was married to my second husband, I bought ALL of the Aerosmith CDs. So, don’t think because I only placed two of their songs on my list that meant I didn’t like them as much because I love Aerosmith. But I nearly loved Styx and Queen as much. And The Steve Miller Band, Molly Hatchet, and so many others.

A few albums I loved I have forgotten who they were. They had been bargain basement albums and they influenced my singing but since they never hit the big time, now, over 50 years later, I’ve simply forgotten their names. And Richard can testify to the fact that I have looked for them. Old music shops. Google. You name it. I’ve looked. One was a black soul singer, similar to Billie Holiday, but though I loved her too, I couldn’t find the singer who influenced me. When I first heard Tina Turner she reminded me of her and so Tina took her place as a voice I wanted to emulate. Later, I felt the same about Tracy Chapman and thus, I sang several of her songs when I would go out and sing karaoke. Both of my kids remember that. I would take them out with me on occasion and they loved it–though I didn’t like taking them to bars they were older teenagers and my friends all thought it was fine. After all, we lived in a beach party town. But that’s another story too.

I also have a shorter playlist there too called, My Dance Break playlist and it is a list of my favorite Adam Cunningham songs of ours–yes, our originals that we hired Adam to sing for us from Beaird Studios in Nashville, TN.

Let’s Celebrate Imbolc!

February 1st – What’s bubbling up today

It’s February 1st, 2024; What’s bubbling up for me today as I listen to this song, continue writing in my 5th book (see the image–it’s the chapter on Musical Notes), and work on a few side projects (see my all-time favorite song playlist near the end of this article). Bubba Hudson does a great job singing on this demo and producer, Steven Cooper mixes it well also. I sometimes wonder how many laughs these guys had over the years while working on my husband’s songs. Not that this is a song to laugh about, but the one I will share tomorrow is… so stay tuned!

Superficiality doesn’t bring one true love

Here’s the thirty-second new music post for 2024, as I consistently present our original songs for ALL to enjoy. This song presents several different superficial ideas of how men try to pick up women. He’s hunting for romance. He tries to be a Romeo. He tends to get caught up in Italian silk suits, autographed Gucci shirts, Porsche cars, and his workouts for a fine physique to “get under every skirt.” Men like this have never impressed me.

I love the guitar break in this original song. I love the reference to Caller ID and Call Blocker. Ha! Oh, how little these types of men must think of themselves, much less the women they chase. How shallow!

Playing games

This song is all about the games people play to find love, instead of just working on themselves, their spirit and soul, and their mindset. Do people really need to play these games to find love and connect? It’s sad to think some people feel they must achieve all these physical trappings before they can find true love. To me, they are just hooking up. They are not securing a true love partner for life. Sad.

And before you think I’m being all judgmental and shit, okay, maybe I am. We sat beside a couple we had never met before, at dinner last night. We watched this game go on between them for over two hours and it was nauseating. UGH! The woman had been divorced and was out with her friend, whom she admitted to all of us sitting near, she loves him as a friend “until he drinks too much.”

As if Richard and I were psychic we could have accurately predicted how this would end. Yep! She asked me to walk her out to her car, because she hadn’t brought her jacket in with her, and she had 6-inch heels on, had drank too much, and was cold so needed to get everything out of her car so they could call an Uber. I don’t know what happened between them after we got back in the restaurant but about fifteen minutes later, she left–alone. The gentleman (I’m being kind here) kept asking the bartender to help him get a taxi. The bartender friend was great, so patient. He showed this guy how to call an Uber from his phone–I get that not everyone is up on those kinds of apps, and the guy was drunk, so there’s that. They were a hoot until they weren’t. Each caught up in superficiality.

Snip from my 5th book, that is in progress. This is the start of the Musical Notes chapter. The concept of the book is simplistic, but writing it is turning into a daunting task.

I hope you enjoy this list of 75 songs. Let me know which of these songs are your favorites too!
