It’s January 4th, 2024; I’m thinking about my son (who happens to be in the hospital at the moment) and what it means to give birth to a son and daughter (I have one of each).
I started my day off reading about Charlie Rich and how his hit song, Behind Closed Doors, made him a household name for a time. I always loved his voice, but that was a groundbreaking song during my childhood and helped me form an early opinion on the fact that “We never really know someone.” Decades later, I’d see that emerge again on one of my favorite pay TV shows ever, Six Feet Under, when the character David espouses the statement, “You can’t ever really know a person. If you think you can, you’re living in a F…ing dream world.”
I also read a very stirring account of a person confined to prison (for 27 years) and how I cannot begin to imagine the isolation they feel and how glad I am that (in their words) writing reconnects them with their humanity.

Here’s the fourth new music post for 2024. I chose to do a self-challenge to share one of our original songs each day of the year, to see if it helps any gain some traction. Radio stations feel free to play! Also, filmmakers, podcasters, and the like can also use these songs. I’m sharing the songs here first, then promoting the blog articles over to Tumblr (automatic feed from WordPress), Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and Alignable (in that order).

This song is about observing and asking ‘Who do you know’? In particular, in this age of gender acknowledgment, pronoun selection, and body autonomy/sovereignty. No judgment here either, just a way to help some of us old farts flow with this ‘ever-changing world in which we live in’ to quote another one of my favorite songs from Wings.
