First things first
- Honestly assess your skill level of the software available to you
- Obtain and learn (or gain further knowledge) of the software available for your use
- Make a list of key resources (to help you on the software, processes, and business sense needed for you to achieve success)
- Know who to call/chat with/interview internal and external to the company
- Consider experts known on LinkedIn and other social media
- Keep a journal of everyone within your company (or your client’s company) and their top specialties/knowledge
- Setup calendar reminders of “not to be missed” calls and meetings, even “Update timesheet”
- Create a personal cheat sheet to remember “go to” people, places, or things needed to accomplish your tasks
Proactive
- Create a “READ FIRST” motivational document and keep it on your desktop
- Source and attend industry conferences
- Create a living document of Internet search Favorites/Bookmarks
- Update your ‘Daily Search Cheat Sheet’ periodically
- File daily/weekly TO DO directional notes within topic folders (name them 1 – [Title], 2 – [Title] etc. in order of importance to easily find them)
- Attend industry specific webinars monthly to sharpen your skills or build initial familiarity (such as ‘Jennifer Schaus Fed Con Gov’ in the Federal Contracting space)
- Consider strategic advertising with those who produce the most helpful webinars in your space; ask/determine their conversion rate too
- Download free checklists (be aware that puts you on their email list)
- Create reusable templates
- Use Dropbox per opportunity
- Streamline Sharepoint
- Streamline Salesforce
- Setup shared Wiki
- Keep your company website current
- Build a book of past performance, portfolio, or writing samples
- Build a book of design elements
- Build an ‘Allocation Schedule’ (if you have a team) to plan and watch resource bandwidth
Reactive
- Industry type procurement watch lists
- Reply and submit to offers
- Watch and comment on YouTube, Vimeo, Vidsee, or other videos to get your name out and build reach
- Vet by credentials and breadth/depth of knowledge
- Search per type of business such as: SDVOSB and VOSB
