After Christmas thoughts on Consciousness

Hello friends and readers this morning after Christmas Day, I thought it might be a fun exercise to say a few words and put this out onto a blog article to answer the question of what the mind-body, soul, and spirit connection is a question that came up recently and I thought I would take a moment to meditate on those words mind, body, spirit, soul, and connection and see what if any thoughts drop in about that in my rational academic mind, the topic of mind body spirit soul connection brings me to consciousness. Because consciousness is an overarching word term that we can use to describe how all of these pieces fit together within us.

Consciousness is, as we know, not something that resides in one place within us as human beings, but it can be the consciousness most notably and closely associated with our brain and our thinking. How we come to have the thoughts we have and what we consider to be real about us. That our consciousness has learned is something that can reside throughout our body. So we have consciousness of thought, yes, but the cells of our body are conscious.

So we have consciousness throughout our bodies. There’s also the consciousness of mind. There’s a consciousness of the body because of the consciousness that envelops and resides within each cell 50 to 70 trillion cells of the body and then I believe there’s a consciousness of spirit too because the Spirit will continue to live on it. Some say consciousness exists apart from the body, but can also come into the body and envelop and embrace and live within and breathe within the body. And then the soul which I believe from what my husband has taught me, dear ‘love of my life’ loving husband. He has taught me that our soul is in our blood. This makes so much sense to me because we carry our ancestors with us in our blood, you know, their DNA.

You know, scientifically we know these things right? From the lineage from whom we’ve come, from whom this body has come that we reside in. That is our soul. So the soul of our ancestors is quite literally in our blood in our DNA and in the chemistry of the blood. And this is also a reason why we inherit certain diseases if you will. Because, you know, our mother, our father had certain tendencies and things sometimes skip a generation or things sometimes only come with this on the male side of the family or the female side of the family. You know, certain traits, characteristics, or ills. So, someone in your history your parent or grandparent had heart issues. You may have a tendency toward heart issues, but perhaps your job with your soul is to upon knowing such do whatever you can to prevent those kinds of issues in your body so that your soul doesn’t really experience that. But that’s just one brief example.

This idea of mind, body, soul, and spirit Connections is a matter of consciousness. It’s a matter of how conscious we are of this whole soup or petri dish that we are. And I believe this is also key to determining or discerning or deciphering why we get certain sensations in the body. I’m not talking about just a stomach ache or something. You know, I’m [indistinguishable]. I’m talking now more about how we can feel spiritually inclined to believe certain things or come to certain understandings or have certain knowings because we feel certain things in the body. This could be our we sense love, how we feel love, how we feel when we’re so full of love, our hearts going to just expand and burst, or, for me and my particular situation or instance,

I feel what I’ve talked about many times and written about this sensation in my body, mostly in my thighs, which I call GodBumps. And you may remember that I did an interview with Davey Pfaffle about GodBumps. He and his wife wrote the book, GodBumps. Here’s the link to that interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EP0lqKnHGA

So the GodBumps sensation is similar to goosebumps, but it’s more internal. It’s something that it doesn’t necessarily show up as God bumps on the external flesh of my body, but within my body, I feel it. It’s like a bubbling effervescence thing, my word for how I feel the energy in my body. So it’s sort of tingly. It’s sort of goosebumpy. But it’s inside. It’s really like the best way I can explain it is when you drink a soda and you feel the bubbles on your tongue. That’s what I feel but it’s inside.

Now recently, I’ve come to learn through my Reiki classes and training, that when I hold dowsing rods, I asked the dowsing rods to show me my yes answer. At the same time, I feel the gut bumps in my thighs and all through my legs. I mean, it’ll just that sensation I’ll go all the way to my feet and swirl around and come right back up. The longer I sit with that yes answer. When I asked the dowsing rods to show me a knowing answer, I felt from my stomach all the way up. I felt God’s bumps was was unusual. And when that happened, I knew that I was a human dowsing rod. This doesn’t just work, you know willy nilly at any time of the day. But I really have to be in a serious question asking almost meditative thought. I don’t have to be meditating to ask the questions. But I just need to be present. I guess we could say sitting with the question. I have to make sure my feet are grounded. I have to make sure my legs aren’t crossed. And if I’m holding the dowsing rods, I have to be holding them up correctly and appropriately. And there’s a way to do that.

I had not learned the technique prior to the last couple of months. So whenever I used the dowsing rods before I got hit-or-miss responses, I had to be in a place like Sedona, Arizona where there’s a vortex before the dowsing rods really showed me that they did anything. So I didn’t use them very often because I didn’t really have much experience or belief in what they could show me because again, I hadn’t been drained. But a couple of months ago during my Reiki classes, I did receive that training and bought a new set of rods that were much more straight as an arrow robust copper, full copper, and a good length to not some $5 little cheapy dowsing rods that I’d had prior to that.

So now I have these good dowsing rods and I’m sitting there and I’m asking these yes, no questions. And the answers show up in the rods, but I also feel the answers in my body. So that’s been quite enlightening to me most recently, and then also working with studying the work of Dr. Raymond Moody. He’s written a book called Life after life. And also God is bigger than the Bible. And he’s written many books over the years. He’s an elder gentleman now, but his small team had reached out to me someone from his team and asked if I would be interested in volunteering to write some correspondence replies for him and I jumped at the opportunity I mean, my soul just here we go again to answer the question, coming back around spiraling around full circle to answer the question of what is mind-body, spirit, soul, and Connection.

Well, my whole consciousness was like singing in a chorus. I felt all through my body that I would do this work for free. Even though I felt a tad bit off, I don’t know if I have time. It was one of those decisions that I really didn’t have to think about because I knew that if I need to wake up an hour early every morning, two hours early, whatever it took. I was going to do that first it was going to be like saying thank you soon as my feet hit the floor. use the restroom. Go into meditation. Do the gratitude flow that I teach with integrated spiral and then sit and read and meditate upon and think about my answers to these persons who have written to Dr. Raymond and write up some correspondence.

Of course initially, I’ve just begun this work. So I’m very green about it. And so I just send my will or maybe become the responses to the persons who write Dr. Moody. send those to my team lead if you will. And she will review them and she may delete a sentence or two or Addison’s to that kind of thing. And then she’ll use that to send from the official address because of course I don’t have access to Dr. Moody’s email, system, or email addresses. But this gives me a purpose. This gives me a reason to formulate such kinds of response answers, and then send them back to my team lead. And then, of course, they can go out as they will. Or not, you know, but they have the choice to use them or not, and if they use them if you were to write Dr. Moody and receive an answer from me, it may or may not be 100% my words but it would have the tap the contact signature line of Sheila Murrey on behalf of Dr. Raymond Moody, you know, that kind of thing. I’m not exactly sure even how we’re signing those right now or how they’ll be signed in the future. But it’ll be something to that effect. So you would know if the answer came from me.

The point of this is what I’ve found in this process is that it’s given me a very pointed, very specific, very identified means of connecting my soul desire. The work that I desired to do on my soul desires to do you know, I’ve always known for many, many years now that I’m a writer.

A writer writes, so I write all kinds of things. I write so much that sometimes I write the same thing again, but can pull it in a completely different way because the way I said it many years ago was very different than how I would say it now because of everything I’ve learned. But that’s something that I feel my mind and my body have led me to do to become a writer, but my soul and my spirit they’re wanting to communicate, and they wanted to communicate my whole life but being raised and coming up in a family the way I did very small family as an only child. I didn’t often feel heard in many ways I had my voice squelched either by the bullies at school, or just, I don’t believe I was ever a shy person, but definitely, I’m an empath and an introvert so because when I would put myself out there and then feeling kind of the brunt of that exposure.

In fact, I remember telling my first husband this one when I first met him, and was probably one of the reasons I fell in love early in my life. was because I felt like I didn’t have skin. I felt like I was a very broad person. And so anytime I shared anything with anybody, I could feel the brunt of it being received. And that’s the empath to my nature, you know, but I didn’t know that I didn’t even know what the hell of an empath was.

So, here’s the point. I’m getting to consciousness now. I’m coming full circle back around to the answer here. Is that consciousness, capital see, it envelops all of us it envelops our body. It envelops our minds. It envelops our spirit and our soul. Because we’re always thinking of how we’re being perceived right? And whether we’re being heard, and then beyond that, are we being understood?

There are so many facets to us and ways that we can express ourselves which is why so many people turn to art, you know, so they can just express themselves in their art. Or in their music and they never really have to. They never really have to acknowledge or even perceive how they’re being perceived. So they just do their art they put it out in the world and then you know, let the chips fall where they may, whereas a speaker, a teacher, or rider, we’re always looking for, well, especially the speaker and the teacher, right? Educator is always looking out at their students or at their audience to see how their words are landing. We’re looking for people’s faces, or their eyes to light up for their ears to perk up, you know, that kind of thing. A writer is always looking for interaction, we’re looking for somebody to call us up and mirror back to us how they, how received our words, how, whether they understood them or not, whether they read them or not. And how they landed, they were they hit home, you know. So, we are looking for acknowledgment, not in the way of the ego necessarily where we’re Oh, you’re so wonderful, you know, your words spoke to me like no one else’s have ever, you know, or we become the best selling author, or we have our works published in magazines, that kind of thing. I mean, that’s all nice. And good and warm, fuzzy stuff. But that’s not necessarily what I’m talking about, because that’s getting into the realm of this ego whether that exists or not. But I mean, just from this soul level, and spiritual level of wanting to be acknowledged in a way that proves to us that we’re really here.

Obviously, we’re in a body so we know we’re, doing something here. Even people that feel like they’re soulless, you know, and they don’t feel like they know their soul or spirit identity. Are they questioning if they even have one? They do have one. Everyone has one. If they’re in a human body, and they were and they were born on planet Earth, they may not be in touch with it. They may not interact with it. They may totally reject the idea of having one like the atheist rejecting God. But obviously, if there is a God, that created everything that we see, touch, hear taste smell. Then just because you say there isn’t a God doesn’t mean there isn’t it just you’re not in touch with it. You’re not in touch with all that that is you know, whatever label you want to put on God. But again, that’s a spiral thought, by the way, I’m just been off for a moment.

So again, the very simplistic answer to all of this is consciousness is everywhere in the body and can be everywhere, anywhere, all at once.

Your consciousness makes you who you are. And it continues to grow you and just as I was drifting off to sleep last night, the thought occurred to me of when you’re a baby, and you’re born you your birth into this world, and you’re such a tiny, small package. of a human. What must it be like? To your mind, you really didn’t have any worries, right? You didn’t have many thoughts. It was whether you were hungry, it was probably just all sensation. You’re probably laying there in your little crib or in your mother’s arms and you’re just this bundle of sensations, which is probably why babies cry so much. But then there are other babies who hardly ever cry, right? So we’re each experiencing the world, the external around us so very different. And then we’re processing that internally. And I wonder now if, I wonder if as a baby, what thoughts I had and did those thoughts. I mean, I would think they did. Those thoughts would help me talk to the cells of my body and helped me you know, as I started looking around and started getting older, right? Oh, I want to be tall like Mommy, I want to be tall like Daddy or I want to have long hair like mommy or I want my eyes to look like mommy’s eyes.

Do you know what I mean? Like, did I help? CO create how my body began to look as I grew up, and then when I started meeting other children, you know, and I started going to school and admiring certain teachers and things like that. Did I literally tell the cells of my body what I wanted my body to look like? One of the first stories I remember is about body autonomy. Is my mother not being happy with the size of her breasts? So she always said I hope that you have large breasts like the women on your dad’s side of the family, you know, so it seems kind of silly to say that now but how many women do have an issue with the size of their breasts? I mean, look at the sheer numbers and amounts of money spent on breast augmentation, you know, so, in one way, it seems silly for me to bring that up as a topic here. But in another, it’s so real for millions of women, the feel the size of their breasts, either too small or too large, and I’m sure there’s some number of women that feel that their breasts are too large, but most women go out and spend a lot of money if they have small breasts on getting larger breasts. You know, it seems silly to me because it’s not something that I ever had any thoughts about other than just remembering my mother saying that to me because she said it many times. And, um, but I guess I had average-size breasts, so it just wasn’t something that I ever thought about, you know, I never desired to have my breasts made to be any larger. So I always felt like women who did that are somewhat silly.

I now realize how many women really get caught up in that kind of snare. You know, when they see women on TV and movies on the cover of magazines and so forth that look a certain way they really really, really, like that’s their prime focus is to look a certain way. And well, anyway, so I do have judgments about that, I guess, in that I just feel that’s somewhat silly. Just be happy in the body that you have. I mean, sure, if you can change something with a little nip and tuck, here they are. Why not? Then I look at the extreme cases of Joan Rivers and, and ladies who literally ended up dying over the continual process of the nip and tuck again, everything coming back into balance, the consciousness, mind, body, spirit, and soul when all of this is connecting and talking with each other. It helps us I believe, to reside or keep our being in more of a state of balance.

We’re always balancing. We never like to get that done. But what I’m saying is, if you imagine that yin and yang symbol in 3d breathing, the black, the white, always coming back into balance and balancing like a wave in the ocean. You have, I think, a better chance of living well. Living. Happy, finding joy in your day-to-day, and just being healthy and vibrant and thriving, no. And grow and enjoy.

And on that, I’ll close. Thank you for the opportunity to share this discourse. Many blessings to you in ALL ways

You’re always so busy busy busy

From my Facebook post today

My commentary: A deep ACIM calendar quote for the day…  “This holy instant would I give to you…” and as a friend has commented, it is the same message each day until the end of the year, so I really don’t need to post the image again and again. But alas, here it is.

I’m coming out of the funk I was in yesterday. I know people are busy. My dad used to tell me that every time he called. He would say, you’re “busy, busy, busy.” and you know what? because I was busy, I have many voicemail messages from him so I can always replay and hear his voice. Problem is, I don’t do that very often.

Why?

Because I am still, busy, busy, busy.

But I’m one person. I’d love for many to read this book I’ve poured hours, days, and weeks into. But of the 30 early readers, three actually read any of it. I’m grateful for those three. They know who they are. I would have opened it up to be read for free to many more had I known those thirty wouldn’t have had time. Some of my closest friends were honest from the get-go and told me they didn’t have time.

Book launched today! https://amzn.to/3Cxfjtl

Now, I’m not saying all this to put guilt upon anyone, but to tell you, you can have hundreds of likes, loves, and comments on your posts and those will convert to ONE sale. It’s happened to me (with the last book). So, I do ALL of this writing, from my heart to those hearts who will listen. I do what I do, for the few.

And FYI, though my dad’s words to me about how busy I always was will haunt me, he evened it up by also always telling me, “love you, love you, love you” at the end of each phone conversation or voicemail. So there’s that.

Omniscience God knows.

And so it is…

Why am I here?

I’m here to challenge you to dig deeper. Honor your past. Honor your ancestors. You are not here by accident. You didn’t pop out of a pod. A woman gave birth to you. And a woman gave birth to her. And so on, and so on. And a man was involved in some way too. The two became one. YOU!

ALL of your ancestors who came before, honor YOU! You stand on their great shoulders. Do you accept the responsibility of their sacrifices? Of their LOVE?

Balance is achievable though not always the point. Remember a wavy line separates the black from the white in the yin and yang symbol. It’s wavy because it’s always Balancing. Flowing. Never done.

Life endures. And continues.

We’re all pink!

Underneath our skin, we are all pink! Our blood is blue until exposed to oxygen and then, it’s red!

We Are ALL Connected. Each of us matter. I will own my choices. ❤️🦋🌀〰️

Mine your MIND

Why do we always say something is ‘mine’?

Why do we have to own anything or attach for that matter? Why must anything be ours, or BELONG to us? He or she who has the most toys doesn’t win. That’s just a way to keep us moving closer to the proverbial carrot. Finding joy in the journey is ALL you have. As the elusive butterfly teaches us, it is always moving, dancing, fleeting.

I don’t even have to attach to ME! I’m not my name. I’m not my body. I’m nothing in particular in fact, but I Am. I am here. I exist. Why?

There’s another way to define the word, ‘mine’

To walk the path of the shaman, we must dig in the dirt of ourselves and mine our mind. We must break out of our programming and truthfully examine our conditioning.

Know this though, when you dig through one layer, you’ll find another. When you escape or break out of one box, you’ll find another.

Open the box. We find another. It's dimensional.

Balance isn’t the point though. Remember the wavy line that separates the black from the white in the yin and yang symbol. It’s wavy because it’s always Balancing. Flowing. Never done.

Life endures. And continues.

Creation never ceases

We are each a bright shining fractal of Ever-Living, LIMITLESS Source Energy! Creation never ceases!

When we examine things in terms of degrees, layers, and doses, Truths will emerge. There’s not only one Truth, there are multiple Truths. There are Universal Laws. And the greatest of these is Love. But can all creation love? This is where we spiral back to programming and conditioning.

At my best, when I am aware of my programming and conditioning and desire to rise above it, I am love-and-in my spirit and heart: I love unconditionally–that means without conditions, such as: I don’t care how much money you have or don’t have. I don’t care what ancestry you have, what skin tone, what ailments, what religion-or not, and certainly not what gender or sexual orientation you are-think you are or want to be!

Underneath the outer layer of our skin, we are all pink! Our blood is blue until exposed to oxygen and then, it’s red!

Because We Are ALL Connected. Because I believe each of us matter. I believe each voice matters even if, in the moment, it seems hurtful. I can then choose to make a different choice. And full circle time, I will own my choices. ❤️🦋🌀〰️

Driving thoughts

I’m singing along with The Greens. Singing Mercy Found Room For Me. Mercy found room for me. That’s right. Mercy is how I describe, when I was so emotional, I just felt like it was my dad talking to me and mercy found room for me. Mercy found room for my dad and mercy will find room for each of you.

I had to stop and pick up my nettle tea which is fantastic for any breathing kind of issues that you have going on. Or even if you have a cold or something or allergies, and the other one I love is Pau D’Arco. This is for you, Mama. I love you so much. My mom was drinking Pau D’Arco tea years and years before she passed. She had found it so detoxifying and cleansing for the body and helpful. It wasn’t until a couple years ago, maybe even in within this last year, I found it to be so helpful though.

Oh! I’m always open to receive; I’m open to see from mom, dad, and my ancestors whose blood runs through my veins. I hug myself and I honor you. I thank you for all the gifts that you’ve given me and continue to give me and some of you I’ll see you soon. So, I love you. Love, love, love, love is what it’s all about. Let’s not spend a moment more in sadness or grief or arguing or disagreeing. Okay?

Love is everywhere. Love is where it’s at. From what I’ve seen in my experiences, when our human body dies, we meet our creator. And in that moment the only words I’ll want to say is, Thank YOU!

I’ve seen it in my visions. Those two words are ALL I say! Thank YOU! I’ve told you this before. But they mean so much. We say them so flippantly and so easily to people and we say this phrase without meaning it but when we face our Creator and when I face my Creator I know what I’m gonna say. Those two words. Thank you. Thank you Thank you for EVERYTHING.

Omniscience knows ALL. Omniscience is always with you. You are never alone.

Good and Bad are LABELS

Why do we always label things good or bad?

Why do we judge so much, or at all? What a waste of time and energy. (Unless you’re a judge or sitting in a jury box, don’t each of us have enough to do without all the judging and condemning of our bother and sister humans?

Don’t we each have enough to do everyday to take care of what’s real?

Light and dark, hot and cold, wet and dry. These aspects of reality are real.

In traditions dating back millennia, the dark, wet/moist, and cool aspects were associated with the feminine. and light, heat, and dry aligned with the masculine. This is why the earth was said to be our mother and the sun our father. The dark soil of the earth accepts the light of the sun and nurtures plant life to grow.

We don’t say the earth is bad and the sun is good. Sometimes too much sunlight can burn our skin (so that could be bad). And when something is extremely cold it can feel hot, or if something is extremely hot it can feel cold. So, again, our senses can be fooled. Definitely calling something good or bad can vary depending on who’s judging what.

Let’s, for now, consider issues we view as bad, to simply be INFORMATION. Yes, even criminals. At some point we have to take a good hard look at our innards, shadow, guts, and admit that in some way, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, we ourselves have been the criminal, even if only in our thoughts!

To walk the path of the shaman, we must dig in the dirt of ourselves and lift up the dark to clear it. Indeed, to heal ourselves.

Terence McKenna quote

Why do people need some threat (police, judge, jury, prison, or damnation), held over their heads to inspire or coerce them to live a righteous life? Why do we need a supreme Diety or Divine to live rightly?

Are we innately good? Kind? Obviously we get it if someone is hurt, abandoned, or abused they might consequently hurt other people (the whole “hurt people, hurt people” thing). But not everyone abuses others because they were abused. It is more than likely that when we’re hurt we fall out of alignment with our true selves, our Divinely guided inner being.

Some of us simply walk uprightly because it feels so good to do so! We tell the truth because it feels good (and we can’t sleep at night if we don’t).

So, I’m here to challenge and call out the whole idea of good vs. evil. The yin and yang tradition doesn’t specify a preference between them, yin is not bad while yang is good for instance. In the Asian wisdom traditions it’s all a question of Balance. Keeping things on an even keel. Working towards the middle. Staying neutral. When I practice Reiki, I am a neutral channel of pure loving Reiki Energy.

But Balance isn’t strived for in the good/evil traditions.

Let’s do this little exercise, as suggested by Nick Polizzi of the Sacred Science — here’s a link but watch it quickly as I don’t know how long it will be available: https://inneralchemy.thesacredscience.com/day-3-ist/

Write for 3 minutes of a recent “bad” situation that you’ve experienced. Not what someone else experienced as that’s none of your business.

Then write it again but use the terms light/dark or yin/yang to reframe and describe the situation to see how much emotional, spiritual, intellectual we can stretch, open, expand and change our language around the experience. This assumes it was our experience and not someone else’s we have no business in viewing/judging.

What have you learned? What new awareness has surfaced? Do you feel a bit lighter after reframing the situation and releasing the need to write bad/good judgements in the story?

For your upliftment

I hope so! Because the aim of this work is to uplift you.

I think we care about each other because we are human. We are ALL human beings. I don’t want to exclude ANYONE. I want to be known for Inclusivity.

Because We Are ALL Connected. Because I believe each of us matter. I believe each of our voices matter. ❤️🦋🌀〰️

And, yes, I want you to yell FIRE in a theater, IF it’s on freaking FIRE!

Speaking your truth is healing!

No labels

I am all for NO LABELS!

I could care less what people do (or with whom) in the privacy of their homes, cars, RVs, motel rooms, tents, bathrooms, etc. and I don’t even mind public reasonable shows of affection (it doesn’t have to be vulgar—yes I know I am still judging). And between consenting adults, please. (My mind cannot abide with people taking advantage of children—see my previous post about that.)

Yes, I accept all for who they are. (But I don’t have to live with them.) I have had way too many experiences on different levels than to judge—more than I just did.

❤️🦋🌀〰️

Why can’t we ALL just get along? (Or, I love you, but – part 2)

Dysfunctional families

As I ponder why some siblings don’t get along or even become estranged from one another, or why mothers and daughters can disagree and seem at odds with one another (all while feeling love for each other), it occurs to me it’s because though each love one another, or say we do, we are half the other parents DNA. And in the case of the mother and daughter, if the mother doesn’t get along with the father of course the same would hold true she would disagree with the daughter who is half the father’s DNA, attitudes, and such. It’s only logical. Siblings aren’t just 50 percent their mother’s DNA and 50 percent their father’s DNA either—each could be 49 percent of one and 51 percent the other, or some other mathematical percentage.

Too many times we get in our Ego when we could take a breath and simply be grateful we have people who love us in our lives!

I love you, but

I love you, but I am my own unique essence.
I love you, but I have been programmed and conditioned, however slightly, different than you.
I love you, but the lens by which I view life differs from the filter you look through.
I love you, but I have different needs than you.
I love you, but I got different amounts of our parent’s DNA, flaws, foibles, etc even though we are siblings.
I love you, but we each experience life differently each moment, each day!

Healing

I hope this helps anyone estranged from a sibling or a parent and teen who are having trouble communicating. Life is short. Don’t lose sight of what’s important. Nothing matters except the people who love you and whom you love.

Next time your parent or family member challenges you, ask yourself, “Is my ego hurt, or my soul?” I bet it’s your ego. And actually a lot of psychological analysts think ego is an illusion! So, you’re letting an illusion separate you from someone who really loves you but simply sees the world differently than you!

Where’s the love?

My sister, Christina, who lived less than one day in 1963, wouldn’t let me sleep last night until I wrote this article. She visits me in the ethereal and is who I wrote my new book about (which will launch soon).

Let’s talk about text color CONTRAST on images

I love an art challenge

Let’s talk about CONTRAST, in particular when it comes to adding text to a digital photograph or image.

A blogger friend of mine (and no doubt soulie sister too) tried something new, for which I applaud her! She was drawn to take some photos and add a note to each of what they meant to her, how her soul resonated with what she was photographing. And that’s huge! To be the observer, and to do something different with your art! What expression! What JOY!

And her actions sparked an observation within ME! I realized I had not written specifically about the contrast of text on photos, and how this correlates to the CONTRAST of, or within Life!

So, here we go. I’ll show what I mean by the best way to contrast text on your photos (and yes, I have a degree in Visual Communications and specialize in 508 compliance during my day job).

Adding text on photos and images can be tricky

Here’s one of her photos that I couldn’t see the text of very well, in fact, I missed it the first time I read her post: https://herladypinkrose.wordpress.com/2022/12/01/the-journey-2/

And here’s how I color corrected the text so I could see it. You could also just add a white glow or outline to the text as well (but I took the easy way out):

Now, just so you know I’m not picking on AmyRose, I noticed this white text on a website I viewed and how it sort of “gets lost” within the lighter areas of the Yew tree branches, making it difficult to read:

Example 1Example 2

And this is how I fixed it: On AmyRose’s blog image, I attempted to match the font and size in a lighter color and place it over her text. If I had Photoshop on my laptop, I’d have cloned out her text and then added mine, but alas when you pay Adobe for the Creative Suite (as we do for our iMac) they don’t allow you to use it on another device. (Not so good of you, Adobe Products.)

Anyway, similarly, on the Yew page, I matched their Times font and white color, but because of the kerning involved I couldn’t match it exactly. I wanted to simply type their “The yew tree baffles…” paragraph in a black font and lay it under the white so I could overlay their verbiage and be able to see a couple of the words better. In particular, the “is” which happens to lay on a lighter part of the yew tree image making it very difficult to see. I ended up adding a black font “is” over the white font paragraph I’d placed there, to call a bit more attention to it, though in a perfect world, and again, if I had Photoshop on my laptop, I could do an A+ pro job on this. We have to work with the tools we’re given though! LOL

Tip: Rule of contrast

Remember this rule, light on dark or dark on light works best for text on pictures. And stay away from the red or pink tone colors as these are difficult to read for anyone who may be visually challenged (color blind).

As for my day job, I don’t have any graphic tools on the PC laptop. So, I do all my changes in Paint. I yearn for a day when I don’t have to work so hard in order to make changes to application screens. I also used to use Snag-It which was very helpful, but currently only have access to the Microsoft Snipping Tool that comes standard.

One former place of employment used a fuchsia color for all of their image callouts. I challenged that decision based on contrast ratios but I didn’t win the argument. Sometimes, you have to follow what the company’s design guide dictates. If you have a choice however, always opt for the highest contrast you can work into your design.

If all else fails, you can reach out to me. I’m available a few hours a week for freelance side gigs and do proofreading, editing, color corrections, etc.

Giving and receiving artsy advice

I’m so glad AmyRose understood what I was talking about when I commented on her post that I was having difficulty seeing the text on some of her photo images. Yes, initially, I’d viewed her post here: X on my phone, but even when I opened it from my laptop, full screen, I still had an issue seeing the text. And the point of her post was that she was trying something new, both by adding her comments ON her photographs, as well as sharing this part of her on her blog (the thoughts she’d had while observing nature and taking the pictures).

I knew with some of our first exchanges we were “birds of a feather” mentally and emotionally, so I was sure hoping she’d take my “help” or advice with the love and intention I’d had in mind and she did. She didn’t let her ego get in the way, and that’s sooo important when one’s goal is to help and to build a bridge of communication. Many artists, unfortunately, allow their ego get in the way.

You don’t always have to add a contrasting fog behind the text, outline the text, or go with an outrageous color, sometimes a highlight, double layer of the same word in a contrasting color, shadow, or such is all you need to make the text a bit easier on the eye.

Remember, black or darker color text font color on white / light backgrounds, and white or light text font color on darker backgrounds. It can be that easy.

A way to shift into Gratitude

We all get down or low at times. Feel discouraged. Irritated. Anxious. So, here’s a way we can shift our thoughts and emotions to feel better and improve our mental outlook. I love learning new tips and tricks like this!

During my Reiki training I learned of this beautiful exercise:

  • Get a few sheets of lined paper and a pen/pencil
  • Number the rows on lined paper from 1 to 100
  • Begin on line 1 and write down everything you can think of that you’re grateful for without stopping
  • If you stop for more than 10 seconds, start over.

The following are the four sheets of paper from my first attempt. I did not stop in between and my hand was tired at the end so my writing may not be all that legible. After completing, I immediately noticed a shift in my mental outlook to the positive. I felt I could have written more. I wrote this the night before Thanksgiving 2022:

The following are the four sheets of paper from my second attempt on November 26, 2022. I did not stop in between and my hand was tired at the end. However, I immediately felt very accomplished and with an eagerness to try again in a few days, making a mental note to do this exercise when I felt irritated or anxious so I could note any change in those feelings.

Have you tried this exercise yet? Let me know in the comments below. Stay tuned for my next attempt!

Why I love Kaleidoscopes

I love (and learn from) other people’s perspectives

I love the fractal nature of us ALL. I love that each of us experience life through different lenses. It allows us to live, grow, understand, and contrast each other and GROW!

Kaleidoscopes reveal our intricate connections and with a very slight movement, allow us to experience another view or perspective! Yes, turn, turn, turn so applies in this instance!

Allowing the other perspective can be tricky

Of course, when disagreeing with another’s perspective, it can be tricky to “let it go,” and simply listen. It’s even more challenging sometimes to learn from what the other is talking about. So, why not just allow the other person to have his or her understanding of their experience? After all, questioning someone else’s experience is usually the first way to raise ours and others emotions.

And what difference does any of it make anyway?

We don’t always have to be right after all? And if we do, then that’s our ego.

Think about a conversation where someone says something you believe to be untrue. You get frustrated or mad. This is because you’re fighting their perspective. The irritation or triggering of emotions within you are all about how another persons perspective differs from your own.

Kaleidoscope Views

Check out these two images from the same kaleidoscope, that was simply turned a bit:

Pick up a kaleidoscope and peer into it, notice the myriad perspectives available to you. The fractals involved in the patterns created. And when, because you will, you cannot help to do so, move it the slightest bit the light will hit the items within it, and you’ll see different colors and patterns. For this is the way of the kaleidoscope. This is also the way of the interconnectedness of the universe.

I hope this helps to lighten you today, and step a bit lighter on the earth.

Be the person your Soul knows you are!

I love you.

You are enough.

You are worthy of love.

There is a line in George Michael’s song, Freedom, that asks of us: “all we have to do now, is to take these lies and make them true somehow.” And the answer I received about its meaning was:

When you can (though you may never be adept enough in every circumstance) take a lie, or what you perceive as a lie, and can find a truth (as opposed to THE truth) in it, then that is real Freedom. Freedom in one’s mind.

Namaste. OM

Note refer to an older post: https://sheilamurrey.net/2018/07/15/what-is-a-lie/
This post is NOT about condoning lies or compulsive liars (certainly no one needs to stay with people who habitually act like that), it’s about feeling better, coming to terms, or forgiving someone when it occurs. Learn and move on. It’s all YOUR choice. Turn, turn, turn. Let them go. Leave. You are powerful beyond measure.
